Well, today I decided to take a look at Ryzom, and I think it's officially dead . I looked at the forums and saw this forums.ryzom.com/forum/forumdisplay.php
ALL of the forums locked.
The forums are locked....
The servers are down...
The company is bankrupt...
Ryzom.
Is.
DEAD
Where did you go?
Comments
Sorry to see you so angry. The forum is not locked but if you were not subbed while the company went bankrupt, you cannot post, but many of us still can.
However you can subscribe and post here: arispotle.yubovision.fr/ to stay in touch with any news.
Also, irc chat klients is still up.
Unfortunately, there are no news actually and no one knows if Ryzom could be restarted one day.

Well, it was all locked yesterday, but now just general and the bazaar are locked. Maybe it's just me...

Uhm, what you mean with 'locked'? You cannot read them?
I just entered there and I can read everything (I can also post because i was in game when the bankrupcy was declared).
Of course, if you cannot login into forum the threads appear with a 'lock' icon, because you cannot post without a login, but still you should be able to read everything.

Bah, they should just sell it to a big publisher and let the game officially get new life breathed into it :P

What big publisher would want to touch a twice-failed four-year old mmo?
That's not how I see Ryzom but it is how they would.
I think the model they were using prior to the last sale was pretty good - just lacking in promotions/advertising.
Free download with unlimited access to the noob area is the right kind of idea for this mmo - which has nothing else like it on the market (wholly skill-based and with editable power/abilities). Though like I've said elsewhere, the noob area could do a little more to wow players. Or they could follow AO's example and not limit access to the mainland but still leave the 50 level cap on free-triallers.
But I think free-trial plus a few small changes and some serious promotions is Ryzom's future, if they ever re-open it.
Yeah I know it would, but I remember playing this a long time ago and I liked it. But not all that many people even know about Ryzom...
"You know how in Oblivion you can edit your own spells? There's this mmo that let's you do the same."
...or
"There's this mmo that lets you multi-class (so you don't need alts), but it doesn't affect teaming cos wearing heavy armour nerfs spell-casting."
I'd have wet my pants on the spot and become a devotee yeeeears ago.
