Create a server with no pvp mini games

Please Funcom if You going to go through with this idea of Yours, to force ppl to do the instanced bg minigames You have, then create a server with no pvp minigames, take it out of the game on that server type.

Call it: No Grind Server or World PvP Server.

Open up one during your open beta, see what server ppl pick. Perhaps that will give You a hint of how welcome the idea to force ppl into mini game farming is. This also will make Your to be customers who hate this kind of pvp, instanced grinding where certain premade setups will grind it like no tomorrow, a fun game to play where we don't have to be unemployed and in a premade pvp group to manage in pvp.

They not forcing anyone to do the pvp minigames, but if the info that is out is correct it seems that ppl who going to be involved in pvp, specially the world pvp also will have to do the instanced pvp minigames. And they are, in all honesty, just Unreal Torney games in a mmo. Guess they put in to please the younger crowd of AoC.

It's ALL PvP that matters towards who gets first shot at a Battle Keep when it's open to attack. Not just Minigames. But everything, open world PvP, bar fighting, everything. That leads me to believe it's based off PvP level. So if Guild A has two members that are PvP level 18, and Guild B has a player with PvP Level 14, guild A gets to go first. Makes sense really.

Thanks for clearing it up friend, problem for me and for many still tho is that we have to do PvP minigames. As from what I read on some places (no facts, just from boards and such) it seems you going to need to be doing pvp minigames to advance in pvp level. And think that is big issue for ppl, as a big crowd of us do not want to play pvpminigames, if we would want that we would play Unreal Tournament :)

Thanks again tho for filling in my blanks mate.

Please give me the source for that conversation. Not saying you are wrong, its just loads of people usually go around spreading misinformation. If it is true, which seems likely. Its great.

No pvp mini games thx. No more CTF wowlike or CS thx.

Someone who only has the xp of CTF CAN'T LEAD a massive attack. CTF isn't pvp for pvp players (wow is a pve game and has CTF, DAOC is a PVP/RvR game and doesn't have CTF)

CTF is for pve players. even lotro's monster play is more interesting than those... things...

I ve said it once and i ll say it again. No matter how they sugarcoat it , it will still be a grind. You have so many people who ahve little time nowadays. So in order for them to keep up they ll do the quick minigame grind to keep up. Is it bad i don t know but i for one hate grinds. It will come down to the mini game grind no matter how they say it.

Quake 1 CTF/TF was the bomb.  Who said it can't be good on this too?

If you dont like the pvp mini games dont play them. I dont understand why you want funcom to remove them. It's a feature of the game, use it or not, easy.

The article on IGN made it sound like there was going to be some separate ranking system for minigames that would give you loot rewards and priority for sieges.

What they meant was that your overall pvp level would determine that. So alot of people planning to play on a pvp server went apeshit over it. You won't be forced to play minigames since you can get pvp xp from open world pvp and sieges ect. The question is will mingame grinding be the best way to get pvpxp and will that end up being what everyone does. Who knows. I hope not since that would reduce open world pvp.

I agree with alakram here, removing features from a game is not a good solution. Either vote with your wallet or do not utilize the feature.

It won t matter wether you get better or not from mini games. People will grind them repeatedly because it s easy to get into them no looking around for a fight.

World pvp never gets old for me. However fps type mini games got old the first few times I did them. More choices does not necessarily = better. For the most part from what Ive seen, people abandoned world pvp and it becomes andafter thought .... something that happens occasionally.

However in AOC, we have sieges so there will definately be some world pvp. But with scheduled times or days to do it, how much pvp will happen in between? Probably enough to keep me happy, I just would rather have all focus on constant world pvp ... I really hate the mini games.

what kind of world pvp are you talking about? ill use WoW as a example....i played horde so if i came to a quest area i needed and i saw a gnome  we fought over the same place for hours...that KICKED ass...very fun very fun...which Age of Conan will have no matter what...because people HAVE to level...

however if you mean world pvp like the battles of Southshore people miss so much...ughh....those battles werent fun...just a bunch of people hiding near guards waiting for someone to get within just enough range to be killed or ganked...that got old in 10 minutes...

it is not just "you dun like then don't play the mini-game". It is stupid for funcom to introduce PVP minigame into this PVP oriented game.

If you can get PVP exp and item much quicker and easier in mini-game, what will the players do? all of them will be farming in those mini-game and pvp for casual in the world, just like what WOW did.

Anyway, I will pass this game if there is pvp-minigame in PVP server. The game itself should not encourage players playing those mini-game. They should encourage ppl playing world PVP and GvG instead. If you are looking for minigame, why not play Guildwars and WOW.

  • LeucentLeucent Member Posts: 2,371

I said it before it won t matter if you get more from the mini games or not, people will still do it more due to time restraints and less waiting around.

  • SvarcanumSvarcanum Member UncommonPosts: 425

The pvp minigames are great for people who log on and only have an hour to spend. The casuals that is. The people who pay for all mmos. However they should make sure to make world pvp more rewarding, so if you have more time on your hands you can venture out in the world with a group of friends and seek out that hated guild, with all members on your KoS-list.

Bottom line. Today, to attract casuals, you need fast content like this. Just don't make it so that it's the best way to get PvP xp.

  • toadkillertoadkiller Member Posts: 148

Why would anyone object to this idea anyway ? A PvP server with all minigames turned off would be my first choice in a heartbeat - all world PvP

The CTF fanatics would never have to set foot on it and I'm positive there would be plenty of world pvp types to easily populate a server set like this

I think the mini-games are quite within the spirit of AoC if you think of them as arena games. Makes sense to me that bands of people are pitted against each other like that. Think of all the inventive stuff the Romans had in their arenas; animal fights, band against band and even sea battles in arenas filled with water.

As for the grind, I think the mini arena games are okay, even though I prefer the large scale battles myself. It seems to me that the mini-games are just an extended version of the tavern brawling FunCom was thinking about putting in at some point. I would, however, like to see a setting where the mini-games are part of a larger context (i.e. an arena in a city with betting and team scoreboards or something like that). Too bad there can't really be spectating because some people of lesser morale would instantly exploit it.
