OMG!!! I need a new game!

zoiezoie Member Posts: 2

Okay, so I am a 4 year UO vet... I quit UO for 9 months to play SWG.  That got really boring so I went back to UO for a few months but it just didn't do it for me.

I played a few rpg's in the meantime - I beat KotOR, played Morrowind, and Sacred... Tried some other games just for kicks but couldn't get interested - Alice, Farcry, and LOTR... I need a new game sooooo bad and I really want a nice MMORPG to play.  Tried the AC2 trial.  That game was sort of okay.  Everyone I came in contact with in the game was extremely nice, and the graphics were better than UO of course, but it was like okay travel here, kill some monsters, level, rinse, repeat.  I played the L2 beta and have absolutely no desire to pursue that game either.

I just did some massive upgrades to my system -- dual channel mobo, processor oc'd to 3.2gb, X800 Pro vid card flashed to XT, and a gig of ram.  I have a really great cable connection too.  I want a nice MMO that will take advantage of all this PC power and be fun to play.  By fun, I mean, one of the things I liked about UO was the skill-based character system.  I also liked the housing.  Should I be playing with UO with different people?  Is there another game out there for me??  Just looking for ideas.  Thanks.

EVE is a really well done game...but it is different...very complex with a steep learning curve but worth it...

Underrated game with its one server peaking at 9-10k users almost nightly...vibrant and alive...worth a peak...free trial here too..

I played UO for a while, then went to EQ, then AO, then SWG, then tried UO once again and couldn't come back to it. Then i myself went to EVE, and it was horrible, absolutely horrible. I thought it was relatively cool at first, except the game was glitched and you couldnt see anyone's face. Then the fact that if i wanted to do more damage per shot, ide have to wait 5 hours for a time based skill upgrade system? Who does that! Honestly! Im waiting on EQ2, until then im playing my good old Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne and CS.

Well i doubt i would recommend EQ if you spent very long on UO.

I spent close to 2 years in UO and went into EQ very very biased. There was so much bad mouthing of EQ I would not even dream of playing it.

The luck i had was there were only 3 mmorpg (not  counting M59) talked about out there. So when i got sick of the corrupt GMs in UO as of that time i vowed not to go back and gave EQ a chance. But i really came into EQ with the impression it was a god awful game.

Also EQ is now 5 years old and really trying to catch up with the others now is really very hard.

I would suggest city of heroes to keep you busy till EQ2 or WoW comes out.

Ever thought of trying a MMOFPS?  Planetside is what I'm playing till EQII comes out.  The original poster has the computer specs for it and there's a free 10 day trial.  So give that a go.

Im currently playing Horizons, pritty crap MMORPG, but i payed for a years subsription so i waste my time on that.
But, aside from MMORPG's the best single player RPG is by far the Gothic series.  It has everything a rpg player could ask for, i suggest you give it a try.  Its not the usual fantasy world, but it has all the usual ticks.
It has everything from smoking weed to fighting for some extra cash.
Becoming a apprentice blacksmith, to a extremely skilled  weapon crafter.
A Novice of the Church eventualy over time gaining knowledge to gain access to the magic arts.

Its a really great game, i would advise anyone who has not played any of the two gothics to give them a go, starting with the first.  The story line is also one of the best i have ever come accross.

I recomend EVE-Online. Once you learn how it works (takes a while, it's a complicated game) you'll never go back to other MMORPGs. The Graphics are great and the PvP is the most fun I've had in any game in my 20 year gaming life. Been playing for 18 months and a good combat still makes my heart jump and the adrenaline flow.

    Signature? I don't need no steeeenking signature!1!1!1

I would suggest CoH, I played it and had a great time, seem a little redundant though so overall goal, same with Planetside though it has less of a grind but sees to pointless. Also DaoC is really gettin great with the new expansion, same for FFXI. If you want a game to stick with there are some great ones comming out, I suggest WoW and EQ2 for starters but to me they dont bring anything really great to the table, I am liking the concept behing Guild Wars, not level oriented but instead skills of the user, not to mention its free once you get it. It is a little way off but if you can wait till Wish comes out that is what I am waiting for it looks unique and I dont see much of a grind involved. Also on Wish it will be a huge game and the graphics seem great along with some of the monsters just look unique to the game bringing a element that I think will keep anyone satisifed. Good luck I hope I helped.

I too would like to recommend EVE Online, if you are willing to depart from the fantasy genre for a while. I've been playing for well over a year now, and it is the game that has me coming back for more when others have not worked out.

I wouldn't suggest CoH to hardcore RPers... it's more for the casual crowd... it's a very good game though, but putting in 4 hours a day on CoH will get boring quickly... that will be just about the only problem you have with it, but it will get boring... like eating your favorite ice cream all week..
