I have to go hide to get away from all the people, don't know where you are hanging out. Yes, a lot of the lowbies are alts, but a lot of them are not...just watch the neutral newcomers OOC channel from the starter island to get an idea.

yes but then yesterday i rerolled a NT and there was 3 ppl talking on newbi nute channel for a good 3 hours with no one eles talkin what so ever p.s im in RK1
Yeah, it's pretty dead nowadays, especially if you're trying to level a lowbie toon in the Shadowlands. The best advice I can give you is to try and find an active org to join, it might help some with finding people to team with.
is omni more active? cos atm im clan
I play as clan on RK1. And I've see people in OA all the time (EST). SL seems less populated in nascence. The lowbie hangout spots seem to be becoming less populated. Making harder for those returing to the game with no org (like me). But its far from dead.
its just such a shame to see a grate game like this die.
today for example i was in clan ooc i said "anyone about want to team for totw" no replys about 2 years back i wouldent need to ask for a team just go there and there was 30 odd ppl waiting out side for teams.
I play on rimor and the game (while not dead) has lost a fair amount of players. I wonder if it is basically cyclical as AO players wonder what else is out there and try out new games, discover other games lack AO's compelling nature, and then return a year later after having gone thru numerous other MMO's. Thats basically what happened with me. One thing I learned though, never play a korean MMO.
If you are not being responded to directly, you are probably on my ignore list.
I started playing around 4/5 days ago and I was actually surprised to see so many people. I was expecting to see very few buy to my shock there wasn't. The newbie channel had a good few people chatting in it. Plus, I'm sure the majority of new players aren't chatting while playing anyway. Though people may read the chat channel, they don't necessarily type in it
It depends on alot of things: there are more European players than North American, mainly because it's a European ( at least I think Norway is in the EU, someone correct me if not ) company and more known there. So you'll find more players at EU times usually. A lot of U.K. players, as well. Also, a great number of players have jobs or are students, so it can get especially quiet during the week.
As far as finding out how many players are on, that's what OOC is for. Alot of people, as Lydon pointed out, watch the channels but don't always get involved. it's all about making conversation. hell, I've had convos in OOC on topics ranging from which ugly woman would be prettiest after a six-pack, to discussing the theories of applying quantum physics to cheese sauce.
I've also used the looking for team menu to find players and send them a tell saying "Hey, wanna do some missions or something while you're waiting for your (whatever ) team?" and had them say "Sure, no prob.".
You also have to remember that many people like to grind out some of their token in the early levels, and after level 50, getting missions close to home ( either Athens or Rome ) rarely happens. So you have players spread out all over the world doing missions, quests, and whatnot.
The Ao population is nowhere near huge, but it's not tiny either. The trick is just finding them.
The low ebb for AO was back right after WoW started and before the free account program. You could spend hours in West Athens and not see anyone. Now, there are people running about there 24/7 and the population has been steady for some years. OOC activity is not an indicator of anything other than hom many motor mouths are logged in at the moment as most people either don't watch OOC or stay silent in it.

Havent played the game in over 2 years, it's sad to see the game population going down, AO is such a great game. I remmeber back then, at the Omni-Ent BB it was always full of peoples hanging around, there and at the Trade Grid Point.
You'll find the same crowds of Omnis' at Rome Blue Basic and at the Borealis grid. Still some who hang at the Trade grid, as well.
Running around on Rimor, I can confirm that there is as much a crowd hanging around outside the shops in Borealis than ever there was. It's quite amazing given the age of the game. Even WoW's succumbed to the usual "Expansion Exodus" that occurs in MMO's but AO seems to be holding quite well on that score.
Maybe its because those people have been through Shadowlands and have now returned to the usual hangout? I don't know for sure.
One thing I'm hoping for is that when that graphics update is released then AO will possibly see a sharp rise in subs who may actually stay with the game. I'm hoping for the game's sake that they manage to remove all that awful lag that goes on in highly populated areas such as Borealis (which is being caused by the player models themselves).

what server would you guys say has the most active population in the low to mid level range? I don't know if the hang out spots have changed but it does seem quite empty at the lower levels.
I played a few years back and loved the game, unfortunately i didn't have time to get in to an mmo back then but it did seem that the population was much higher. Unfortunately i forgot my account info, so i started a new account and am unsure which server to play on.
I'm on RK1 as well and saw no shortage of people in TOTW: In fact there were often too many for comfort.
