Sharing my UO photo album (1997-1999 timeframe)

Greetings!  I finally found a place to upload the screenshots I have from my days in Britannia.  I fondly recall picking up UO when it went retail (summer of '97 I believe).  I remember thinking its a good thing I just graduated from college and didn't have to worry about grades any longer

I played actively, first on the Atlantic shard and then shortly after moved to the Chesapeake shard when they opened it up (character name of Broman).  I played up until '99 around the time of EQ beta 4.  By this time, many of my guild mates (Dreamwalkers) had quit the game.  Despite toying around with a few alter ego characters, I ultimately left the game when T2A came out.

Anyhow, I hope some old timers will enjoy these pics of the 'good old days' of UO when Great Lords and Dread Lords roamed the lands.

Nice stuff.  My brother played a bit, but personally even tough i'm a big MMO fan the top view from UO is what prevent me from playing.

  • The top-down view worked well for the time I think.  It was funny because I remember in the early days of UO you could actually die behind a house and not be able to loot your body since you couldn't see through the house/walls; happened to me a few times.  It was also useful when hiding from PKs because they couldn't target you :)  Then they finally put in the 'circle of transparency'.

I think the entire housing thing worked well for UO *because* it was top down and tile based.  I think doing housing and storing "stuff" is much harder in these current games (and hardly any of them do housing anyhow :(

  • I remember when the game was good. Though a majority of your stuff is mid to late 99. Still good memories.

I seriously regret taking as few Screenshots as I did, and especially not keeping any of the ones I did take.

Good times be had back in the day. Too bad the carebears took over the game and they WoWed it.

Thanks for sharing your photos.  Those are some pretty great pics man.  Looks like your guild was pretty solid as well.  I did notice some Chaos with Order though and found that kind of strange.

UO was really a lot of fun back in the day wasn't it!  I miss that hardcore feeling and having complete control over skills and houses.  That sandbox feeling just doesn't exist anymore because most these gamers don't have an imagination due to games like WoW and now they need quests and tasks for them to do anything.  Damn I really miss this game and I'm not referring to the wreck that it is now, only what it use to be.

Thanks for sharing.  It's good to see other people's screenies of old UO.

I wish I would have taken more and kept them...too bad.
