Terrible maintenance schedule

octaocta Member UncommonPosts: 245

I guess they can get away with it because it's free, but doing your monthly maintenance from 3 to 6 pm pacific, which I would think is peak hours for half the country, seems pretty dumb...

    Usually it's 4 (not 3) to 6 pm Pacific.

Supposedly it's done then because they are in the office and so are the people over in Korean (to help watch over things).

yeah thats been a sore spot since they started doing it back in August. Never understood the reasoning behind it.

Most other devs can manage to get into the office before 4pm...

I know it sucks however, since we have been doing it we have found it to be EXTREMELY helpful.  Wednesday's from 4-6 pm is actually a slow time for us (it used to be Tuesdays).

The basic thing is if we do it from 4-6pm PST we have our full staff online, imcGAMES' full staff online and HanbitSoft's full staff online.  When we did it in the early morning we found that there were issues since our full staff wasn't in or imcGAMES or HanbitSoft weren't in.  Now if there is an issue we can correct it and get additional help ASAP.  Or if imcGAMES or HanbitSoft need to make changes to our database or game servers we don't have to hold an additional server maintenance.

SO we could have a maintenance with only 4 people in each company working or we can do our current maintenance with well over 300 people working around the world.

4pm PST is 8am in Korea.  SO they are getting in before 4pm.

Oh, I thought you guys did the patch implementation... They do it for you?

    Are the servers located locally?

If not are they logging in remotely to upload the files?

Do you guys have any source code access at all?

If thats true they really do have you folks hog tied (another thing that would have been nice to know a few months back)

I am not too sure what you mean.  We have said time and time again we have no access to the code or to change the code.  It is very unusual for the publisher to have access to things like that.

imcGAMES builds us a patch and we push it live during the maintenance period (if we have one).  The reason we picked the time we did was because if something went wrong with pushing a patch from the test server to the live server or if there were DB issues that needed attention (restoring a hacked account, changing clan names or clan leaders etc) imcGAMES would be online to correct them.

This is extremely common in the industry.
