My 14-day free trial is about to expire and to my own surprise I will not continue it. The first week in Eve was an exciting one. I found some great people who helped me along and got me in a Caldari Frigate (Merlin). The community in Eve is the best I have ever seen in any game but I think the overall pace of the game doesn't fit my style. I am actually disappointed in myself ironically. Because I want a game that I can get into, get lost in and I thought Eve was it. But between going to school and working leaves me only a couple hours a day to play and most that time is spent traveling to buy the necessary skills or equipment and ofcourse mining. I guess I'd look back on all my playing time the past 14 days and I don't see alot of accomplishment. In other words this game takes time, too much time that I don't have.
I became frustrated when I traveled FOREVER to buy a missle launcher, (yes I bought it closest to the station I was at) and discovered I needed a skill for the ammo. You'd think if I had the skill for the gun I'd have the skill to shoot it! Then I traveled and got the skill and learned in 30 min. Then I bought the missles. Now I have to travel to pick the ammo up. This has taken almost up to 3 days of my 14 day trial. Granted I can only play a few hours a day. Reason I wanted to do this is because I had a mission to kill some rats, which is fun but my little neutron blasters weren't doing the trick so I decided to upgrade. And the upgrade took so long my agent canceled my current mission!
I am in a Corp that helped me get my Merlin. It is a communal Corp, meaning all mining ores go to the corp and they buy the ships. That can work but who knows when I will be able to get ISK for my skills from them or a new ship cause I only play a certain amount of time compared to the other members who seem to be on 24/7. Those players get noticed, well because they work harder and longer.
That isn't a gripe, I just might need a different Corp.
Overall the game is great and perhaps I am looking for a decisive reason to leave other than the time needed to achieve in this game.
Maybe I will buy one month of game time and then decide. Don't know the exact reason of this post. My views on this game is unique much like how EVE is.
Later~ Lhex

EVE is not for everyone, and I completely understand your points.. I don't really know what to say, I guess it is time consuming, as Xplo. mentioned however, the one huge 'good' point for casual gamers like yourself is the fact that you can train skills constantly, even when offline. This is the one thing that means that even if you join in right now you wouldn't have an impossible time catching up with other players, because you wouldn't have to powergame to get somewhere. Yes actually getting ISK and ships/modules and skills etc means you need to do things, but the rate at which you can get things easier and faster accelerates constantly. Also you were probably in a relatively inactive area, having to go far to get a module as simple as a launcher.. I mean that should be right there in the base you were in, all you need to do is find out hot spots where you can always find things and always get a good price, go to Yulai, New Caldari, Luminaire, or similar, just as a few examples. Regarding the corporation, yes the corporation is EXTREMELY important in EVE. I know many many people that have decided whether or not they wanted to continue playing simply because of how we treated them in my corporation, and the help and advice they got. Some decided it was too slow, others decided that they liked being in our chatroom so much that they kept on playing practically for that the array is a wide one I suppose and there's always extreme people. If you think you would have time atleast occasionally on your weekends and possibly every now and then during the week, I strongly suggest that you try to continue playing for a while. As I said you will accomplish more and more faster and faster as you go along, you just need to get into a better corporation that helps you out more and takes less of your money. I'm not using this as a recruiting ad but I myself am in a freelancing corporation where we all work for ourselves and occasionally we do things together to accelerate progress (like joint mining ops and joint hunting ops, etc) but everything that you make you can get yourself, you don't give any of it to the corporation. The corporation simply serves it's purpose by connecting us players into something of a smaller community and that's how I know the vast majority of the people I know, and they are what make the game fun for me, since I think community is one of the most vital aspects of an MMOG. I think a freelancing corporation sounds like an idea for you as well simply because they mean you can be online as much as you want and whenever you want, and do whatever you want and as little as you want and never really get any moaning from our side (as long as you don't do any pirating). I don't know about other corporations but mine for one and I know that many others do as well, can give you excellent help and advice.

I was in the beta...and i dunno...it just seemed like the kind of game you'd have to commit to 100 percent, you know...Its the first MMORPG I liked that I didnt want to play anymore after a while. I quit still thinking good things about the game...but I still liked it...only time that's ever happened for me.
One of the few games where "It just wasn't for me" is valid.
