I don't understand why everyone doesn't want the games being released to succeed. I am very much hoping for the success and prosperity of both AoC and WAR so that the MMO market has more choices, options, and variety. AoC is still in beta and you titled your post the way you did... It is off to a rocky start but you are the perfect example of 'the grass is greener on the other side'. If WAR has a rocky OB are you going to go post on the next game forum you find with something similar? I do support all games polishing as long as necessary and I hope that Funcom can pull off a decent launch and AoC can be successful as I wish the same things of WAR.
Aye, whoever thinks that choices are a bad thing in the MMO market needs to step back and look at the limited options we currently have. I have always wanted the best of these two games and love each of their IPs. If you don't like one, or either, of them that is cool, because people have different tastes. We don't need all this "xxxxx will flop, and yyyyy is better" or "xyz is just zyx 2" talk. If you don't like the product them its time to move on.
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
You're deriving your opinions from a open beta, AKA: Stress Test.
Many many kinks in the game will be gone at release or shortly after, WAR can't touch AoC. They have released a lot of information on Seige Battles, Mounts and Crafting, do your research. WAR is just going to be a game for the little kiddies of WoW to go to, so I'm quite happy about that.
Also, AoC is hardly flopping, they are doing pretty well. They WOULD have lost customers if they delayed the game for a third time, they are releasing it at the right time. I am in the exact opposite position as the thread-starter, I was very much looking forward to WAR, I had pre-ordered my copy, then I looked into AoC and cancled that pre-order and put my cash down on AoC. Best move ever.

You my dear sir, should do your research properly. While having your own opinion is perfectly fine, dont lie about another game, a lot of kids will be attracted to AoC because AoC have boobs, WAR has also released info on siege battles and crafting, i could easily turn this whole thread into a flamewar but frankly, i wont. Next time you take your precious time to post, make sure you have RESEARCHED (long word innit) what you are about to post about instead of just throwing random stuff out which dont create a base for a proper argument.

AOC and WAR are the mmos you hear *the most* about being launched
but 2 others are expected to launch this year, Aionand Spellborn

Playing: Everthing Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW. I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
what all your problems are is that ever since Blizzard released a well poslished game you expect every single game company to do so, what about when EQ was released? people still played it, same with AO, UO, Shadowbane SWG, hell the list goes on and on with every MMO that was released besides WoW, cause we all know how that release went
the point of this post is you all expect to much from these developers and when somethigns delayed you cry about it, how about growing the hell up and stop being a little kid for once in you life and let the people make thier games, if it sucks OH WELL people will still play it buy it pay monthly what ever, what are you complaining about? that fact that you arent getting the money? be glad you even got to test the beta... which i doubt you did
Um what? First off no, we dont expect to much. I expect a playable game for my hard earned money. No most players will NOT PAY for a game thats junk when its released anymore. Look at vanguard. It would be doing a hell of alot better than it currently is if the release was even close to the polish other games that have been released are. LOTRO is also another game that had a near flawless launch.
Everyone over here, while maybe not overjoyed about the pushback, understood it and did not complain. How about you grow the hell up, and smell the coffee. Times are changing in the MMO scene and a polished game at lauch is EXPECTED. I'm sorry your feelings are hurt that AoC isnt panning out the way you hoped but dont come here and tell us what we should expect for our hard earned money. If you want to play an unpolished game good for you. I have other things I can spend my money on that frustration from a game that promices something and even if its there, is to buggy to play. Yes the OB only goes up to level 13 but you can definitly tell early on that the game is NOT ready for release. Kudos to EAMythic for trying to get things right!

OP is right, now that AoC is screwed, WAR is my only hope for a fun MMO this year. AoC failure is going to be epic and may knock Vanguard of its perch of doom.
Don't let us down Mythic! you're our only hope
I'm no fanboi, hell I haven't even preordered it, but to say AoC is screwed is childish and just flat out stupid.
There's plenty of room in the market for two successfull post-WoW MMORPGs. No need to play stupid and try and force more into WAR's camp.
I played the AoC open beta and if that's anything like what they plan on releasing they...are...screwed! and that's a fact.
Congrats on making it to Level 13 in AoC(if you even made it that far) because we all know that in WoW the first 13 levels are amazingly exciting every step of the way. Christ you can't even get into the first instance at level 13 in WoW.
You're judging a game when you have 67 more levels to go before completing the available content, VERY short sighted.
Listne. I dont wanna see AoC fail. The market needs some fresh competition. But I can tell you after 8 levels it just doesnt feel like its ready for launch. I know they can change a good bit in the time they have left but people are right, if its launched in its current state its not going to be a good thing. It has nothing to do with the OB being stopped at lvl 13. As far as what the game can possibly do it has great potential. I run a low end laptop and it runs decent enough so I will give funcom credit there. There are other things, which I cant go into that just arent ready for the public though. Has nothing to do with being short sighted, has everything to do with being a vet of MMO's and seeing this happen before.
Please people we should all be happy if AoC, WAR, Aion, Spellborn do well. Each are doing someting alittle diffrent that hasnt been done before. The MMO market needs devs to start thinking outside of the box and if these MMO's are succesfull all it will do is help all of us. If you cant wrap your head around that, then maybe this is something you can understand better.
Stop trying to put one MMO ahead of the rest. So long as there are enough people to keep the games at least going and your having fun....WHO GIVES A SHIT what the other MMO's are doing.
Well, I am leveling my second character in AOC beta. We all know they are stress testing the severs. 50k people on only a few servers for the game. There is some lag and a known issue with zone load times but both characters have been fun!!!
Every one said that LOTRO would flop and it is not only doing well enough but has improved greatly over time (just as WOW did though people have short memories).
AOC will not flop. It is going to be a good game and stable on release. They will tweak it for the next year but it won't go the way of VG.
WAR will not flop. It will be fun too. All of these games will have different aspects that appeal to different people. I will be playing WAR too.
'My game is better than your game, your game sucks....

I like the way you think.
I hate WoW now but in beta and up till like month 3 i loved it.
LOTRO is doing good but you gotta remember lifetime subs you can't beat that.

Everyone with at least the brain of a peanut knows that Hi Res graphics and MMORPG's just don't mix.
And the bottleneck is NOT your graphics card. It's the amount of data coming from and to your CPU.
In fact 80% of most lag comes from your hard disksAND the server reactions (which controls the fights).
So unless you have 32 GB of local RAM and 20.000 RPM HD's these kind of Oblivion graphs are NOT going to happen when 10 vs 10 RANDOM people will fight in the open world of a MMORPG.
Ever wondered why there are screen "loading grahics .... " in every OFF LINE Hi Res graphics game.
Oblivion and I won't even mention the loading times of The witcher. MINUTES of loading graphics screens !
And these are OFF line games !!!
You just think you can walk into a city with 40 other (random) players on line and not have LAG.
Let alone have a "real time" combat system. It' will be a laugh at this lag rate.
Ever played a spell in Wow when there is server lag ????? This local lag is even worse with these kind of grahps.
Perhaps in 2012 when we'll have all 32 internal GByte, but until then it's laggy laggy times. And this was ALL reported by all previews on the web.... and they were testing on LAN 's !
Preload graphs kill MMORPG's unless you want to go from pre loaded instance to preload instance.
And yes they 'll do just that : 20 levels of Conan solo play with each time a preload graphic screen. As a matter of fact they expanded this part of the game.
I think alot of you that are upset with Age of Conan need to just calm down...you only got 13 levels of play..and a hint at the pvp...thats hardly enough to make a good judgement on. If your questioning whether to buy it wait the first month out and see what those who played the first 30 days of the game have to say. I'm hoping that AoC does well for those of you that were looking for something more guild vs guild / hardcore. They just seem to be screwing the pooch with open beta.
While I respect your opinion, I personally think your wrong. 13 Levels and a hint at PvP this late in a game's development is plenty of substance to make a good judgment of how game is going to play at release. I can never understand people saying things like "ya gotta play to "x" to fully get into it" or "give it time, it gets better". Folks if something doesn't grab you in someway from the start, I believe you'll be hard pressed to want to stick it out.
With that being said, it's not to say a developer can't fix or tweak certain aspects of a game but your not going to see any major overhaul of a game engine or design.
I've been in AoC beta from the start and I'm going to reserve my comments for a bit. But I do agree with you that Funcom could of handled open beta a lot better.
Any objective person with two brain cells and not blinded by fanboism can tell when a game is not ready for release, and AoC has all of the symptons.
Who's glad WAR was delayed? I sure as hell am.
A blind person not blinded by warhammer-fanboisim with half a braincell should know that this game will not be anything like this on release
Yes I agree! they will change EVERYTHING in 17 days!
... oh wait, I'm being extremely sarcastic!
AoC should have been pushed back so it was a finished product, I'm tired of MMO makers thinking just because they CAN patch their game they CAN release it early.
your breakin my heart people.
I'd rather have a finished game than one that played like a free MMO made by an amature company who's only goals are to hawk their wares on an unsuspecting and trusting community.
Not saying that making MMO's isn't a business, just that i'd like to get what I'm payin for.
Any objective person with two brain cells and not blinded by fanboism can tell when a game is not ready for release, and AoC has all of the symptons. Who's glad WAR was delayed? I sure as hell am.
You know, i was actually thinking about making a thread on this very subject myself after i read the responses to "AoC's so called open beta via file planet" thread.
All I can say is, I am soooooo glad WAR devs are taking their time to polish thier game. This will payoff in the end.
Ironically, I think most people assumed the recent AoC delays were to polish the game after seeing the fallout from Vanguard.
I would prefer a decent to mediocre but polished game to a great game full of bugs.
Matter of utility all around.
As things are going now AoC is certainly isn't polished and its quality is at best debatable.
WAR will more likely have better polish and thus less bugs due to longer development period. Not to mention the hardware demands are much lower, only few motnhs back AoC was supposed to be Vista only.
yea lets wait till im dead till this game comes out. by that time we will all have flying cars and virtual reality helmets. this game will be so outdated it wouldnt be funny.
While WAR gives gamers something to look forward too, There is no guarantee this game will be any more or less polished then AOC. I have not played AOC as of yet and will wait for the post release reviews, but I still don't see how a postponement by Mystic automatically means a polished game. In fact what was the last polished game that came out? I can't recall one in the last 2 years that was considered polished at release. All the games have made massive changes at release, while this is not excusable it is becoming expected.
The bottom line is that there will be gamers that will give a game time and ones that will move to the next big launch. I believe that we should play the best game that is available at any given time, that does mean moving around, but it rewards the adaptation to what gamers demand. I only hope that the next game that is polished at launch is not by Blizzard, as this shows a blatant inability for the business model in MMO to adapt to the market standard. Yes, IMO Blizzard has set the standard with WOW (Business model wise). These are my opinions, but I believe we should continue as a community to push the gaming business in the right direction.

Why do you think ??? I gave the answers above.
A blind person not blinded by warhammer-fanboisim with half a braincell should know that this game will not be anything like this on release
Yes I agree! they will change EVERYTHING in 17 days!... oh wait, I'm being extremely sarcastic!
I'd rather play a good but buggy game that a polished boring game like wow.
I played and loved the pvp weekend even through all the bugs and the assassin/ranger 1 shotting. was way better than anyother mmo.
My blog:
