WHAT HAPPENED TO MMO'S?

Someone please help me here. I miss the days of everquest to be blunt. Back when the world was filled with so many little details and not such crazy game mechanics. Why is it that game companies these days are pushing to have the biggest most complicated game worlds when all it really takes it a decent quality world that actually feels alive. Everquest 2 could of been the best next gen game for me but the constant loading from zone to zone really kills it (i'm not sure why, it just kills the experience).
Vanguard was supposed to be my next game, but as we all know it failed miserably. The world had such potential, but it seemed to be just too big. The one thing that really bugs me with these new mmo's is the cartoon styled look. I hate the fact that they all mimic wow, and even aoc looks cartoonish to me. Will we ever have another everquest? Or is the mmo market doomed to be flooded with countless wow rip offs?
If anyone knows of an upcoming game that might bring back that everquest styled feeling then please fill me in. I can't explain how much i am dying for a great mmo. Warhammer looks fun along with aoc, but those games are more pick up and play for an hour then put it down; what im trying to say is they are like the type of girl that you sleep with then send packing in the morning where as eq was the type you could marry. Now im not saying i don't love my one nighters, but i think it's time that we see another epic mmo.
Anyone have any thoughts on the next real mmo?

Have you tried Lord of the Rings Online?
I agree you should give The Lord of the Rings Online a try. Very detailed and tons of new free content released on a regular basis.
