Graphics Engine

I just wanted to post this to help spread some information on the games graphic engine, since I noticed a lot of people are comparing Far Cry videos to get a general idea of what Aion will look like.  Aion actually uses the Dunia engine that is being used in Far Cry 2.  Many videos can be found of the Dunia engine here.

 http://video.google.com/videosearch?hl=en&q=dunia%20engine&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wv

The main difference between the Far Cry and Far Cry 2 engine is the Far Cry engine is using the cryengine 1.2 while Far Cry 2 will be using cryengine 1.3.  The main difference between the engine is the High dynamic range rendering used in cryengine 1.3.  Dunia actually means World/Earth in persian, Bengali, Marathi, Arabic, Turkish, Hindi, Urdu, Swahili, Assyrian, and Malay.  The code between the two engines changed greatly.  Michiel Verheijdt, says that only 2% of the original code is being re-used.  I don't think Aion will be using amBX, but it is being used in Far Cry 2. amBX is a technology developed by Philips which uses auxiliary devices such as rumble generators, ambient coloured lights, and fans to supplement the audio-visual experience of movies or videogames.

And where did you get that Aion uses Dunia engine? Cause, so far, the only thing I know regarding the engine is that it's using a modified version of the cryengine used for Farcry, the one released 4 years ago.

On the game homepage it says:

CryEngine engine was used to product games like FarCry or Crysis. AionOnline is the first MMORPG which is using this technology.

But to my knowlege farcry and crysis uses the first and the second ver. of CryEngine. So lets hope that it is Cryengine2, used in Crysis that is used in AionOnline, otherwise its an 4 year old engine they are using yes.

Cryengine was used in FarCry Cryengine 2 was used in Crysis.  Aion is using a modificed version of the Far Cry engine also called Dunia that is basicly the same as Far Cry engine, but offers HDR.

hey... the 4 year old engine is a polished one, and puts most MMORPGS to shame.

Cryengine2? are u insane? for what , 0,000001% base of playrs whom have Quad Core's and Dual Graphics? o.O u have no idea of how much the CryEngine2 pushes? no way  Aion will use something like that. It's a MMORPG, not a freaking FPS.

    GamePlay > Graphics.

Anyway go play Far cry for a so called "5 year piece" the game still today beats 07-08 graphic wise. I recommend playing it to see the beauty of it half the photos taken are old not patched and not even on Ultra setting. Let me go take a photo and upload it here

But where did you see that Aion uses Dunia? I need a link or a quote.

  • 1337Mercenar1337Mercenar Member Posts: 84

Well, can someone answer this question does Aion have HDR? If we know that than we can confirm that it either uses or does not use the Dunia engine simply just a polished Far Cry engine?

  • EphimeroEphimero Member Posts: 1,860

L2 has HDR and it's using that old unreal engine, Aion will probably have HDR also, but that doesn't mean its dunia, i mean, adding HDR doesn't require a new graphics engine.

I belive Aion uses the Cry engine 1.3 witch supports HDR instead of 1.2.  I guess you were right that it doesn't use Dunia since the engine was developed by ubisoft.

Think SUN of websen uses the same engine.

Ant it looks bad like no AA and no option to torn it on :P

Hope NC fixes it better, but i think so since they even Experimentaly added HDR to the unreal 2.5 engine in L2.

Afaik, the only one using Crytek1 other than Aion is Ned

    image

And some people tweaked with the systems to get this quality in Aion.

    That's with a 7900 btw.

    SUN uses unreal engine

BTW that photo makes AION look like crap compared to what I have seen on these videos

The jpg compression always fails at anti aliasing, but glows and lighting are awesome in that screen.

These are screens with the best settings i've seen at this moment:

I know you can force AA and HDR at the same time, but other than that I belive you can only have one on at a time if you use AA than you can only use bloom.

Really those photos are better it really shows off the Far cry engine that has the ability to see so far out looks like a real view instead of stuff fadding away in the back ground as you walk away.
