AC nothing Butt Botts

LhexLhex Member UncommonPosts: 262

I tried AC and was lucky enough to be helped by a vet who has been playing the game since realease.  He took me to his guild hall and they were all gathered around a buff bot.  Now buffs in AC are insane.  One set of buffs on you could take up to 2-3 minutes.  Then your UBER.  I lvld to 25 in one night.  Now granted the lvl cap in AC is high but still I want no part of a community that relies so heavily on such a device.

For most that rate AC high, I guess have accepted this aspect of the game or take part in it.  I am not aware of the late game in AC but first impressions are everything.

I got a free trial of AC.  Can't remember the amount of time but I canceled it immediately that same day and you know what?, they still charged me 12.95.

For those trying to decide.....

I dont think the free trial has been active for a long time. If it said it on an old box you had, then its prolly not still valid. They just recently got the billing handed to them from Microsoft and are trying to reconsile the new system. They already stated there is no free trial at this time. Read the internet, it helps.

Yes, at lower levels most people use bots. Or they get buffed by someone else. You do not have to do this to level up and fight, but since it is much faster TO use the bots, most people do. Most people dont use bots past level 60 or 70 since by then about half the characters can buff themselves, which is faster than using bots. I dont like it, but its what is developed. I hope Turbine can change this somehow, but unless they change the entier face of the game, I doubt it.

What is the different between this and an old school patron.  By old school patron i mean some one who is a patron to a vassale and that patron helps the vassale out by giving buffs and helping them hunt.

Some might think that is power leveling but honestly its not because this is the reason for the patron vassale system in AC.

A buffbot on the other hand makes it easier on patrons to do what they wish to do and not have to baby their vassales through the game.

This is not the Asheron's Call so many fell in love with. I am sorry that you came so late in the game.

I still hold Asheron's Call in the highest of regards when considering mmo's. It was the best MMO and still is in my opinion for lack of a better game to compare it to.

Ive played AC almsot from release.  I remember when we only had level 6's that lasted 17 minutes and it took me two years to finaly get a character above level 60 =/.  Mainly lack of knownledge and some rerolling on my mage.

I had a UA Char Spec in Item and Run =/ hehe.  I was maybe 13 when I started playing this game.  Ive been playing off and on for the last few years and it has change quite a few.

I remember when Qualibar was trading capital along with one other place but not its all trade bots that used to camp and lag in subway.

Dont mind the buff bots at all, only when they charge an arm and a leg for a set of 7's because AC is full of griefers and greedy ppl.

The other day I was helping out my vassale level in BSD which is probably best exp for ppl level 30 to 40.  He is a level 37 X-Bow so I was the buffer and vulner.  We were doing great not minding the other lowish 40 level chars.  But it wasnt untill a level 53 Swordsman came in and started to steal kill for a level 24 dagger and my vassale.  He wasnt hunting, he was trying to grief us.  Thats when my vassale and I had the thought of showing this guy a few things in the dungeon.  He was following us no matter where we went so we strolled into the raveners of BSD and got him swarmed and we recalled out.  Later on I ran down there and found the griefer's corpse =).  I waited there untill he came back and I spamed the *mock* emote which is "You Point and Laugh".

Also I was hunting Sclavus Temple and I had fortified the lock to Sarc. room becuase no more than one person should be in there killing spawn other wise it's over kill.  Finally this guy picks the lock and calls me a B**** for fortifing the lock and he jumps in and automatically killing spawn off quicker than anyone else Ive know cept for one thing, he was shooting pierce bolts with a cold rending wand.  Now who does that?  Only a macroer using El Tank's Default on new monsters =/.  He denided he was using the programs macro system but you could tell because once something spawned he was already casting his spell.

Like I said, most ppl who play any game only to rule over anyone and put em down in game should really consider their Real Life because they probably don't have one =/.

I agree and I think most players would agree buff bots are evil, I don't know why Turbine refuses to do anything. Perhaps they don't want to be too aggresive, banning UCM's and then buff bots so close together, since they have been allowed for so many years.

However, trade bots I think are great. Like I've said many times before - because this exact topic has come up many times before - player run NPC's (trade bots) are very cool and I wish Turbine would build in some kind of trade bot program into the game.

AC can be played many ways - nobody forces you to use buff bots and the game does not rely on them in any way.  Most players that use them are magic free templates, or are hybrids that have not reached high enough lvl to buff themselves and are looking to get to that level fast - lets face it there are very few newbie players and once you have dome lvl 1-40 60 times, any help to get up quick is great!

AC is still one of the best games.  You can play solo, or enjoy groups.  You go hunt which is actually really fun - xp just kinda happens as a by product unless you want to play as a power leveller in which case, good luck to ya!

Yes there are a lot of griefers but that is true of any game.  AC has a huge land mass and with the reduced populations and the vast amount of quests/dungeons, there is always somewhere else to go when ya feel crowded.  I started an archer using buffbot monarchy and got to lvl 70 in about 6 weeks of fun play, never entering a dungeon once (except started one).

A fun game (cant say that about daoc or swg after a few weeks let alone 5 years!) - long may it remain so.

AC is one of the faster pace and fewer downtime MMORPG's ive played.  This is a reason why I like to play it because Turbine doesnt have a firm grip on how fast they want you to level and gain skills un like some other games when you want to use mana they make you sit and recharge it for a while then you cast a few spells like 3 and have to do it over again just for one buff cycle *cough I played AO as a Keeper cough*

I agree. Turbine's biggest mistake was not crackign down on macro'ers. I used to do it just to compete on the pk server. I also did it to make money. I used to make mana potions during the night (which isnt easy on a pk server, you have to find just the right safe spot.) I used to run far out into the ocean util I stopped and then set it to run. Anyway I created the mana potions for money. Turbine was just lazy in not enforcing anti-macros. I would talk to my friends who played EQ and say we macro why dont you try it and they would NOT EVEN CONSIDER macroing because they were afraid of what would happen to their account if EQ support found out about it.

That is what Turbine should of done, it's WAY to late now for them to do anything. Macro's, add-on programs etc are here to say in AC.

Turbine's stance is still, 3rd party apps ok, UCM's are not ok. If they find them, they ban them.

It comes down to this in my eyes, they have incorporated things tht 3rd party apps do, which minimized a need for that particular app. Recently, item buffs come to mind, what took painfully forever, now takes almost no time. So as they keep fixing the way we buff, Nerfus Buffus and other buff programs will also become and unwanted plug in. However, unless Turbine takes what these programs provide to reduce tedium and time it takes (ie, buffing, fletching, skills like that) people will rely on 3rd party apps.

As for the buff bots, I played a mage for over four years now. At the beginning, people (vassals and other players) saw a mage and instantly it was beg for buffs. My vassals I took care of. I had people literally beg, cuss, complain if I (or any other mage) wouldnt stop what they were doing to buff them. I assure you, the squelch list was never long enough at times like those. The bonus of a buffbot, I know have time to play the game and not play at being a buffer. The downside, it creates buffbot dependent players. Any patron worth their salt would not introduce a newbie to the world of a buffbot until they know the player knows how to play and survive on their own first.

Ken Karl posted results of the MS/Turbine poll that was conducted over two years ago on macro's. The results of the player base were this basically, there were good apps that enhanced the game and then there were the bad apps such as UCM's. This poll was part of the log in, infact it was the ONLY official poll done by them with logging in to game.

Turbine has a team of volunteered developers that make decal, plug ins, macro's without the cost of development, payroll costs, etc. Their work is basically done for them. They can sit back, watch and see what ones benefit and what ones don't, then implement things similar. Slowly, it is happening.

My hope is by expansion, all those "good" apps will be incorporated. One can only dream.

And on the upside, Turbine is attempting to catch the UCM'ers. Also finally taking a stand on griefing.
