I dont make excuses why WoW sucks. Why would i, i didnt create the game.
I just try to point out reasons why i dont think it's that good.
And those two quotes were great!!!!
And ya, your right about the WoW=Britney Spears
It was kind of fun to look at for awhile but it doesnt take long to figure out that there is no depth inside the pretty package.
And what MMO are you playing now that is soooo much better than WoW may i ask?
And please note that saying WoW is easy makes no sense, as as far as i am aware all MMOs are easy, and before you start, grinding <> hard!
If WoW is McDonalds, then what the hell are games like D&D Online and Dark & Light?
I think it's safe to say that WoW is more like Red Lobster. You get great service (depending where you live), you can sit down and enjoy a nice seafood dinner (WoW is fun, we all can admit that). And when your done, your freaking FULL (WoW will fill you a bit, make you wonder WHY did I play all that, hence...why did I eat all that food.)
I would compare McDonalds more to Tabula Rasa or some other not so great game. It looks good on paper, or for food sakes....commercials, but when you get in your remembered why you don't go to that restaurant anymore.
D&D Online = Quiznos
Dark & Light = Long John Silver
WoW people are McRaidin' It or McBGin' it.
People use McDonalds to WoW because of the # of people served and McDonalds isn't exactly the best food for you. WoW isn't exactly the most innovative and groundbreaking MMORPG out there.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
If WOW = McDonalds, then most other games = Hardy's or Jack in the Box.
There, a much better analogy. Prices are about the same, but Mickey D's out sells the others by a 10fold amount due to effective marketing, consistency of product and quality, ease of access, and while its food isn't equal to Ruth Chris, you certainly get what you pay for.

I'll agree with the WAR Dev who compared WoW with the Beatles.
Seriously though, most analogies are meant to demean and therefore should be ignored. WoW is and will remain on the great games of the genre, despite what detractors may say. The sole innovation Blizzard brought, and something most studios can't grasp, is releasing a reasonably complete game. Forget ease of use, if WoW was released in a state as other games have, I doubt WoW would have sustained its subscription numbers.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
The McDonalds analogy is in itself, a fast food analogy. A cheeseburger of an analogy, a ready-made dig for people that can't think for themselves. A fried chicken analogy that they can gouge themselves with at the bottom of their long diatribes about "the terrible state of MMORPGs today" to stick it to the millions of people having fun while they are not.
They compare it to McDonalds because if they compared it to another MMORPG it doesn't really help them sling poop over WoW, because other MMORPGs are just shit. I mean you can deny it all you want and talk about personal preference and all that, but when you factor in everything, and not just subscriber numbers, or critics scores, magazine articles, newspaper articles, how other developers play it, or how many people talk about ... but all of that, at once... then fuck, WoW beats the living shit out of any other MMORPG and you hate the game for it.
Boo fucking hoo, go paint your nails black and wear purple lipstick and tell the world how much WoW is too mainstream for you. You're wrong, WoW isn't cheaper or easier or less quality or any of the negative connotations that you think you're being so fucking clever comparing it to fast food, and nobody outside of this depressive cesspit of jaded self-proclaimed MMO veterans cares if you don't like it.
I still love you guys though.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
Really, this is nothing new. With any form of entertainment, theres always a "clash" between core fans and mainstream fans...thats just how it is. WOW, being the first true mainstream MMO, will always catch flak from much of the MMO vets. The amount of trash talking is proportional to the popularity of the game and, of course, to the amount of fanboi-ism...
Comparing a video game to a hamburger, pop singer or a movie and expect it to be taken seriously is very lame to put it nicely.
Hamburgers have nothing to do with video games. The same for everything else.
Analogies are bad no matter what they are. People often pick McDonalds, because it already carries a perceived negative stigma and they want to attach that to Warcraft as if it will somehow validate their views and opinions.
Newsflash, MMOs are not hamburgers and actually share very little characteristics. The discussion will eventually devolve into people bickering about fast food vs fine dining as if that somehow relates again to MMOs until someone eventually invokes one of goodwins laws of the internet.
All this analogy talk is just plain misleading and a very weak way to try to paint something to fit your opinions.
Mcdonalds sell the most hamburgers and Warcraft has the most subscriptions so obviously they must be the exact same thing?
Diablo and Starcraft is what launched WoW into success. Blizzard already was a Multi-million dollar gaming company with huge titles under their belt before WoW was released.
So in other words, WoW had a huge budget and some of the best talent at their disposal. I still believe that the reason WoW did so great is, if you look back at what MMO's were on the market in 2004 before WoW was released, you had what? DAoC, Lineage 2,Asheron's Call 2, I think maybe EvE online was out but it wasn't very popular. Most of us were still playing EQ.
So yes, WoW was the first true Next Gen MMO that was presented in a bold and beautiful fantasy setting that just felt and looked Epic. It had most of the features past MMO's had, but they did it in a way that was really fun. WoW is fun, flashy, full of people, and caters to casual play, thus letting gamers who may have never played an MMO or maybe knew what MMO's were about and thought that they were boring and took a lifetime to get anywhere or were just for nerds, it hooked them and hooked them good.
I bought a copy of WoW on launch day and was so drawn to it that I quit the day job I had just to play it for a month straight. No game has ever made me feel like that in the past or present.
Now that WoW is so popular and mainstream people will love to hate it just for that reason.
People like to bash WoW for various reasons, but WoW will always be the game that launched this era of MMO gamers and showed the world that were here and not going anywhere.
If any analogy is to be used it would be:
"Smoking Marijuana is a Gateway Drug" is to
"Playing WoW is a Gateway MMO"
People who in which WoW was their first MMO are wanting more. Maybe they gave everquest a shot or any older MMO just to see where WoW's roots are laid and came away from it in hopes that a future game will have some of these features and qualities us mmo vets have grown to love.

Of course you can ask.
I am playing nothing right now, because there is nothing on the market that i currently want to play. I sometimes think about going back to EQ or DAOC, but i most likely wont, that ship has sailed. But i never think about going back to WoW. This is a sad time for MMOs as far as i am concerned. And before you ask, i have played (close to in order), EQ, DAOC, Horizons, EQ2, Lineage 2, Shadowbane, WoW, CoH, TR, LoTRs and a very brief attempt at Vanguard. So i have played most of them.
And you are correct, no MMO is hard, because it is a video game. But when i say WoW is easy i guess i mean not challenging. Again i can only talk about 1-50 because that is all i could stomach before i had to give it up, but i never had a fear of death when playing WoW. To me that is easy. I could solo everything i went up against outside a dungeon, to me that is easy.
But then grouping is probably just a timesink now.

You do realise Wow has the biggest eq, eq2, swg, daoc etc etc etc refugee playerbase of any mmo? After they all failed LOL.

EQ, EQ2, SWG, and DAOC still have servers up and running. They might not be at full capacity but there are still people paying to play these games. Failure would mean they were shut down. None of these games are shutting down anytime soon. Usually server merges happen but no closings yet.

Its a blatant bash and an attempt for someone to sound clever. Too bad it only makes him sound childish. Stupid analogies only come from stupid people. Nuff said=) It doesn't make sense in the way the bashers expect it too.
The analogy ONLY works if ALL MMOs are fast food and In that case, its not a negative at all, which makes it so funny. Every fast food chain would love to have MCdonalds' success & reputation.
Also notice that when the quality of WOW is questioned the person doing the criticising can not EVER bring up another game that has superior quality. As if sticking IMO at the end of a sentence somehow brings credence to that statement. The only thing that matters is overall player opinion, numbers, critical acclaim and reviews, all of which WOW tops the charts. THAT's proof. 1 dorks opinion that says Eve for example is a high quality game, means nothing. Most other people would find a game with no content where you can advance without actually playing with one of the worst and convoluted UIs, not an example of quality design.

WoW = Mcdonalds
AS it would be in the Food Industry.
Sure it has the most customers, but is the Food good?
but with WoW, they change the highest amount per month, and McDonalds has low prices
