I have returned!

After 1.7 yrs I've finally decided to return!  I recently purchased the 2008 Vana'diel Collection and am currently updating the game; which doesn't take nearly as long as before anymore.  Looks like Square added a huge portion of the updates on the new DVD.

Normal background textures in FFXI Config are 1024*1024 and I'm planning on forcing those to 2048*2048, and the highest screen resolution is around 1280*1024 which I plan to force to 1680*1050.

I love this game very much and even though 6yrs old FFXI still looks amazing and even more so with the forced textures and resolutions.  I will have some pics and possible some videos to share once I find a place I can upload them to that won't reduce their quality any.  I wanna show others how great this game looks with its age!

If you want to see how your PC handles this game, you can DL the Official Benchmark 3 here

Here are my scores, and keep in mind that Squares' scoring system caps at 7000 being godly:

Low: 9677

High: 7504

Looking forward to the screens of the game looking it's best. I haven't played in a while, and the last time I did play I was running it on a very bad computer so I didn't get to see it maxed out.

Here is my FFXI Album.  As I get further and earn better gear and do storyline events I'll be adding more screens so check back!

    Here are a few:

I also have several videos, but I'm trying to find a good place to upload them too and not lose the quality!  Any suggestions would help if you wanna see the game in action at this quality!

Hi, I'm just asking how do u force it to get to that textures and res. The res for me is fine but the textures are only 1024x1024 or watever it is, I'd love for it to be big :D Also is there a way to increse the amount of internet bandwidth it takes up so it doen't lag in busier areas? as the game seems to only use 300kbs and I have a max of 2.2mbs lol

    Game Setup/Tweaking/Optimizing Q&A

Also as far as I know you can't increase the bandwidth flow or frame rates past 30fps or anything...thats all set by square since this is primarily a console game ported to PC.  With PC though we can force these better textures that consoles can't handle though.

Maybe those forums will be able to help you more if you ask or search around!

I've put some of my bigger vids on Google Video. Unless that's changed the quality stays the same.

Its all about the Moat Carp!  At least I'm getting 3000gil per 12, and am catching one every cast with the right bait!  Just takes a bit of time!  ...and since the Lu Shang's Fishing Rod quest requires 10,000 Moat Carp to complete....there is always a very high demand for them!

Another 2 pics, one showing off the lighting and a crawler!  Love the animation on these guys!

i've recently been playing around with this and my screen res is usually the exact same as yours. i successfully changed the background res to 2560x2048 while having a screen a screen res of 1280x1024. but i tried to beef up the screen res to 1680x1050 as you did and i got an error. any advice?

These are great screenshots, and trust me, it looks even better in motion. However, I can't tell if you are using the Draw Distance plug-in or not. I have mine set almost to max, and it looks great. Everyone else can keep their directx 10 and 80 fps... I'll take the FFXI style and art direction over that stuff any day.

Yeah I have the draw distance on Max, although I don't think it was on in the 1st few screens I posted!  Last few definitely are though!

Still trying to find a place to upload some videos too, I tried Google and even uploaded a 180mg file and playback was barely viewable...was all grainy and blurred.  Same file on PC is HD quality, not sure what happened in the transfer!

Stage6 was a great place for HD uploads but they closed a few months back so not sure where anymore...

Here ya are...see if the quality is better and can actually read the text!  I can make it even better looking, but trying to keep the file smaller.  Uploading this took 2hrs which is odd, guess its Filefront's servers cause everywhere else only took about 30min...

When I was playing, all notorious monsters were camped by at least 30-40 lvl75 players ...

Does it's still the same ?

I think that's probably a little exaggerated. Everyone would have to be standing next to each other just to be in the spawn area. If you mean people camping the drops for gil, no. A lot of the more popular ones (Leaping Lizzy, Valkurm Emperor) are Rare/Ex drops now while the ones they originally dropped have to be BCNM'd or bought on the AH.
