It's Fileplanet what did you think ? Getting in a queue before downloading is normal, but stopping once started and get pull back in the queue is ridiculous.
I used the FP fast servers very early in the FP beta key giveaway and it wasn't too bad. It sounds like even those might be slow now, too. Maybe the torrents are the best bet. Of course, for people who are getting the game anyway, it's very close to release. For me personally, sometimes the game runs fiine, and sometimes I have loads of issues. I have no idea what's going on from one moment to the next in this beta. It's a crap shoot.
The torrents are no better. The highest kb/s I got was 1. I'm also pissed off with Fileplanet. Got home today and it totally froze. And it was still 1%. So back to the waiting I go.
I think I averaged 287kb/sec on the torrent (not huge fast, but not bad either, I capped it off at 600kb too, just to leave some room for me to hit the guild site and such... What shocked me was the upload didn't even reach what I capped it for most of the time (felt it only fair to share back what was being shared).
I will probably put it back up tonight before I goto bed, so I can help others get it less painfully too.
The really sad part was, I had the torrent down and installing before I even got through the line at FP...
All fileplanet did was give away the leftover keys they had from the 50k. Of course they gave them all out at once and now the server is jammed up. Fileplanet fails again. I have been in the que for 12hrs because somehow I got kicked last night about 20% into it. If I'm lucky I'll get it downloaded before the beta closes.
I don't think of it so much as a failure for Fileplanet as a success for me. I learned something new with all of this (bit torrents) and found them most interesting as I think I'd only had done one once before but I really didn't pay attention to it and how it worked and how i could help others with it as well.
I guess it goes to show that a little adversity won't stop most people from getting to their destination, it will only slow them down and possibly make them stronger.
I downloaded from the AoC website and had no wait. The speed was between 200k and 450k. It still took over 24 hours. The install took about 2 hours. The update took about 10-15 minutes. Their update servers a pretty quick.
The problem now is I started the game. It didn't like my video drivers. NP I just updated them. Then it changed some data file format. Now I have to download 15.9 gigs of files. Probably the same ones it just converted. The game is chasing it's tail and I doubt I will get to play....err test this game. At least the patcher is running around 300-800k/s. Maybe after work I will be able to do some real testing.

From the AoC website?I must be blind I see no such link to download there.
Watch out this is the new protocal now too for Fileplanet
You cannot cancel your account, even though you paid for it, or you will lose any access to any beta's you are in or could get in for your subscription time. Even tho you paid for it and should be entitled to said time and benefits.
Like you pay for 4 months and have to wait till the end to manually cancel it. Just another way for companies to be shady and try and squeeze people for duckets.
Thank god card companies are starting to support temp credit card numbers.
I've been at this for over 36 hours and I'm no closer to done than I was at the beginning. I don't think I'm going to make it before they shut it down. I suppose it really doesn't matter, I was in the PvP weekend and know the client is more demanding than I'm willing to tolerate with my current setup. I'll be getting a new machine as soon as the next generation graphics cards are released - several months from now, that should give Funcom enough time to whip this pig into shape. And if they can't manage it, there is no want for competition in the MMO biz.

I have given up with this. I know i will not be able to download this in time to actually test the game. Hat Fileplanet, really really do.
