I was running ok I guess before that patch I was stalling and such but it wasn't unplayable. Well I dl'd the patch and just got to play it today and it was stalling badly and then I even got a BSOD needless to say I haven't booted it back up. I am not sure what's wrong.
3ghz duel core, 4 gigs of ram, geforce 8800 gts 320 meg card. conan runs so poorly on my computer I have uninstalled it already.
Sorry but you have a major problem, 320mb gfx card? sure it's a 8800gts but 320MB ? You cant expect that to run good at high settings atleast.
It would be nice to know if the OP actually specified what he calls a HIGH END machine. Btw, the gfx drivers that will be released by ati/nvidia after AoC is release will sure have better support for the game. All drivers usually gets tweaked with the most games out there. Let's hope Funcom fix the problems ppl are having until launch, atleast the big ones everyone seems to be having. Working real good for me, but seems many got bad performance.
Elondor do not listen to this guy your rig is good enough to play at high settings
Your dual core is what is holding you back, on this version of the build having 1 core on instead of 2 will double your FPS for some people. (like me)
I have a relatively good machine and I get very good performance in AoC. My system is as follows:
Abit AB9 Mobo Intel C2D E6600 @ 2.8 GHz 2 Gb DDR II 800 Mhz RAM Nvidia 8800 GTX 768 Mb 320 Gb SATA II 7200RPM HD 19" LG Flatron L1917S Windows XP Pro 32 Service Pack 2
I play the game at 1280 x 1024 with everything maxed-out, apart from bloom as I dont like it. I get FPS of anything between 35 - 70 depending on where I am in the game, with Tortage being to the lower end of the scale because it is always busy as hell. Out of Tortage and in Conarch Village, Old Tarantia, Khemi or anywhere just out in the wilds I get an average of 60-70 FPS. I get no hitching or stuttering at all, just the occasional CTD every few hours. All in all I would say that the game is running well for me.
See this is what I don't understand, I have a similar computer to neilh except I am running a C2D E6750, eVGA 8800 GT and 2 x 150 GB Raptor HD's, and I had to turn down some graphics to not have a slideshow in places like Tortage, especially on the upper level of the city near the tavern. And inside the tavern as well.
So it looks like a card with 512 MB of memory won't cut it for this game, even an 8800 GT, if you want to really turn up the details. I don't know what else it could be, because there's no way in hell I could crank the resolution and max all the settings out, and not lag when taking one step forward.
On a side note I keep my PC clean, 17 running processes with a page file of around 120 mb.
Running with Vista home premium 64bit, resolution 1680x1050 with everything on high settings.
Everything is stock besides the factory overclocked graphic cards.
I'm running the game smoothly between 50-70 fps and I do get some hickups but not so often it would matter. So far I've crashed into desktop like 2 or 3 times during OB but haven't gotten the pleasure of bluescreen yet.
I have no complaints.
Edit: Have you guys checked the hangups isn't happening because of slow internet connection etc.? The hardware isn't always the problem. No matter how good system you are running but if your computer is full full viruses and malmware it's like playing with good old 486.

I think thats everything. tried every tweak posted, even on low with no bloom/hdr. Game runs so inconsistently yet i more than exceed the minimum
HARD DRIVE 320GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
when I play wile the server populations are low I usually get between 50-64fps in the wild and about 40fps in Tortage. I still get crashes every now and then but when it runs it runs pretty well. when the server populations are high I get between 40-50fps in the wild and anywhere from 5-30fps in Tortage.
I don't have any garbage on my pc like limewire (viruswire) I defrag and virus scan once a week as well as run two seperate spyware removers twice a week. I disable my anti-virus client and firewall before I start the game (which I do on all games that I play). I also use the classic windows theme disable any programs and services through msconfig that I don't need. I always keep my drivers for every component that uses them up to date.
as far as the OB client goes I am running it on high settings AA x4 AF x8, 1440 x 900 resolution, I have my shader version set to 2.0, directx ver. 9, and bloom is disabled.
again most of my issues seem to stem from high server load which is to be expected during a stress test. even during peak times if I go into an instance or go into night time play it goes back to running like it does during low population times. I can only speak from my own experience but I do hope something in this post can help someone out there.

Slythe, its probably because I am playing a different client to you mate.
MMORPG History: Playing - EVE Online. Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion. Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9). Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.
Opteron 2.6x2, 2 gigs mem, 8800gt 512 g92 model, 2x Sata one for OS and one for games. I get around 60 fps everywhere but I'm only running it on medium atm and I have bloom off and shadows on people only. If I happen to put shadows on everything it hitches something fierce basically all the time so...
I've seen people with far better hardware than I have.. say they are having issues or severe issues.
My personal experience is running under XP I have no problems. Other than when I exit the game it usually claims to have crashed and wants to send a report to funcom.
In vista (32 bit home) the performance is not as good and I do get some crashes.. that usually give some memory related error. Such as referenced memory was freed or something similar.
I have two sata HD"s and one is setup with Vista the other with XP. So I can just change my boot drive to test out performance from one OS to the other.
In relevant terms other than my Vid card my system is fairly dated.
As I said I've seen people with much "better" hardware having issues. Some seem to have as many years experience with computers as I do.. so what exactly causes such different performance is pretty interesting.
The only thing I have shut off is "bloom" and "shadows". I don't run shadows in any game I play to be honest. Oh I don't run AA either.
1280x1024 with everything else maxed.. 16x af blah blah
I think its pretty obvious that Vista 32 bit is having some major issues for many. Thats not ours to solve. Thats Funcom and Microsoft. - So start working.... BTW - Is DX10 working in client yet or is that just for show ?
DX10 wont be put in until release, its just a clickable that doesnt work atm.
IMO this is the best poll I've seen so far and it proves once again that at a forum you really do get a reading of the actual game. Even though some don't like what it is saying and will go to extremes to defend the games honor, it is what it is.
And I'm one with issues and I'm one with Vista-32 and have no problem believing that combo is a good part of the issues.
I'm down with all the things you list, but it is simply more then that. I'm sitting on pretty much a fresh Vista install, I have the latest beta drivers and released drivers. Everything else runs well, yes even Crysis. It's simply something in the engine doing this, there can be a few things possibly to pick up a little. I do have decent stretched but after a while it seems to go bad and then stay bad for a good while.
