Agreed. If I was forced to play a F2P MMO, I would choose Perfect World.

I never got to play it much, but its a real good game (Until I discovered StarQuest Online that is)

Recently, I have downloaded and installed lot of F2P to try. I was so surprised by the result I discovered. Some F2P designed with horrible user interface, poor operation. Most Chinese games and cheap games all designed to use mouse control for direction, right click for up and down, left and right, and left click to move as well as targeting. Not many F2P I found can steer by WASD, although Cabal Online is able to steer with WASD but still not good enough compare with any paid game I have ever play. Since I played LOTRO, I have change my mouse button from left click as to right click, and right click as left click because LOTRO has advanced mouse control direction on screen but still not good enough, in order to reduce my fingers pressure so I have to share my each finger's workload. I do not remember what was the direction and screen control for all the paid games I've played but it seems to me that WOW has the best direction and screen control as mainly WASD plus mouse to assist screen angle. Very intelligent camera compared with any other game.

Voyage Century is one of F2P I can't play because the text is too small, it is heavily rely on one mouse button F2P, move your mouse pointer left and right, up and down to adjust your screen as mentioned above, in the meantime, double left click to attack. The graphics is very difficult to read clear. So I gave up in about 10 minutes.

9Dragons was one of <playable> poor game even though the game is full of bugs but still can play than Voyage Century, VC seems to have lot of features than 9D but if you can tolerate the mouse control then VC maybe more contents to play with.

Sword of New World also have very unusual mouse control and short cut key, most keys are combined with ALT + something, and the quickbar uses F1, F2... instead of number 1, 2, 3. Since Function key is on tthe top row of keyboard makes your left hand and finger not easy to access while you need them all the time.

Pirates of the Caribbean Online is kind of good game, it says F2P  but it is actually 7 days trial version, the skill and many quests being locked until you pay, and after 7 days, the screen became really small like 320x240 and it is not possible to play anymore with such screen size.

When I read the post then I browse the perfectworld wenbsite, it seems that I have downloaded 30MB something to loading the page.

But I found Cabal Online is impressed because the game quality seems to be ok, the server in Europe is  good, the game heavily based on skills so you need to spend time to level up your skill, the player's level are easy to grind but it won't make you so uber without high skill level. Player in this game are hostile so community is kind of poor. Compare with the comunity in LOTRO, you will never believe any guild in LOTRO has spent their time to build a guild website. But Cabal Online allowed you PK anyone, which means you can press SHIFT + clicking your skill to attack anyone. The high level armors are too much colors in Cabal Online turning the game from good graphics into a cartton game. And the color used are shiny green, pink, blue.

I am still playing Cabal Online but it's too bored to play so I also trying Sword of Newworld, but I am going to subscribe 6 months to play Pirates of Caribbean Online but I will keep level up in Cabal. Pirates of Caribbean is not a stress game to play because you can play black jack and poker in game to relax a little bit and make some gold  as well. And for 6 months, it's US$49.95. Note that the payment must be done within United States, no payment acceptable outside the US.

2 Moon is F2P but it is only for US players, the game blocked IP to login from outside of US.

Most Asian games or least 9D and Cabal all use very tiny cloth on female character. Although I never would believe any real female will play 9D or Cabal but it is real not comfortable to see how the female wears such poor armor design.

In my opinion, a new released F2P and a stable quality F2P would be my choice to play with.

First of all F2P games are only truly free if you're a non-competitive type. If you feel a need to "keep up with the Jones's" when you play a game you'll easily end up paying more in the Item Malls in these games than you would for any P2P game's sub price. If you can play casually and not care what anyone else may have than a F2P may be for you. If not than you're much better off paying your 15 bucks a month and sticking to P2P games.

That said there are many decent F2P games out there to choose from. I myself enjoy Dungeon Runners, Mythos, Anarchy Online, Voyage Century, Shaiya, 9 Dragons and Perfect World on a regular basis when I'm not playing the few P2P games I sub to. I would personally recommend any of these. Others that merit a mention are Sword of the New World, 2 Moons, Archlord, Lost Chaos, Dofus, Knight Online, Rappelz and Runescape. These are games that I've tried in the past and either got bored with them or they just weren't for me but they are all decent games with a fair amount of content. 2 that you have to buy but can play for free are Guild Wars and Hellgate: London. I've played GW in the past and found it to be enjoyable for a while. HG I still play occasionally and is also a nice diversion.

It all boils down to this......no one can pick out that gem of a game that you're gonna love for you. You need to download a few and check them out for yourself to see what is right for you. I've given you a good list to start with but in the end you're gonna have to choose the game that is right for you. Good luck and I hope you find what you seek.

I'm really enjoying a couple of Aeria's games, Project Torque (which is a shockingly fun racing MMO) and TwelveSky (a rather brutal Martial Arts-themed MMORPG).

Basically most of the f2play games are Asian in origin.  As such they are massive grind-fests.  If you are into this type of game then there are plenty of good ones to play.  Shaiya is almost identical in looks to L2, and with a similar gameplay. It also has permadeath if you ever manage to get to Ultima, and I love that, you must be a total hardcore player to achieve that!  I will never, as although it doesn't stop me from trying, I get bored after an hour or two.

There is an interesting one that has just recently been released (although technically it is still in beta) so you have a good oppertunity to play on an even playing field.  That game is SHO-Online.  It is basically still a grindfest, but it does at least have some of the western style quests, game elements.  So you may want to try that.

Sometimes its not as simple as saying "ok what F2P game is the best". Because not all F2P games are the same. I know that we generally refer to them as Korean/Lineage Clones..and some are, but there is still significant diversity in the F2P market just as there is in the P2P games. Are we truely going to equate Puzzle Pirates to Fury? ...you just cannot.

So, as with P2P games you should still define exactly what you want in a game. Believe it or not, some F2P games have less grinding that others...You could ask for the best F2P games with less grinding. Others have great PVP, still more have better PVE.

    Good Luck

Perfect World was fun until you realize that all the main quests you do are all the same damn thing. It's always

    "Kill x amount of monsters"

"Find x amount of items which you get from killing the monsters"

"Find x person which usually leads to kill x amount of monsters or find x amount of items"

I've never gotten past Level 29 because i don't feel like doing the crappy quests, i've been level 29 for months, i've basically stopped playing it. It really isn't that good of a game. It's basically a grindfest but in the form of quests, Same old grindcrap, just a new place mat,

That may be. However when I went to check out their website in response to this thread, there's a lot of questionable grammar, spelling, and many links especially to beginners guides that don't work.

A good game only produced by good reputation company.

Basically, F2P are basic mmorpg with simple combat engine, aka prototype for beginners. IMO, any good game worthy the money will try to appeal to monthly subscribers. Alternatively, selling items from their shop could be more profits than subscription.

However, if a game specially designed to sell items as major income then it'd better not to consider to play for long time. Because the game needs to twist in many ways to create the room to sell their in-game items for profit. The more new items available from their shop and constantly change to new item then you can be sured that this game is designed for their shoppers.

Usually, you won't see much differences until you hit high level. If you hit high level means you like to keep the game. If you browsed this website then you will discovered lot of free game which are not in the list, such as ourWorld.

It is fun to download all F2P and give them a try and you may found out they are almost the same type of the game. It's like attacking dummies endless and the soup was water plus salt.

Spoil: many F2P guides are different from those P2P, it is better to exploit by yourself than play your game according to their beginner's guide.
