Man I had the same problem 3 years ago, and so did a few of my SWG friends, when you pay with a CC then later cancel it, it didn't actually end the subscription for some reason and to fix it you either had to call SOE, remove whatever CC info you had in the station or call the CC co. to block SOE. One of my friends went on to play WoW and 3 months later found out he was charged for SWG when he hasn't played in months, same goes for another friend that paid by 6-months and was shocked to be charged another $77 when he hasn't played in several months and was certain he canceled it.

At one point they hid the cancel button, you had to go do some surfing to find the fricking button.

I can't afford to happen such problem again because I used the other person's credit card. I already cancelled the subscription ( I can't remember which game was that) but the other person still paying the fee. If SOE have policy like this all over their games then I may not able to subscribe any game even I wanted to play. It makes real life more troubles,

Instead of a recurring subscription since your using someone elses credit card pay him to buy you game cards and send them to you.   Then there is no fear of any of this stuff.   Its a one time fee he pays for x months and then he can mail the card to you or perhaps there is even a gift system as I havent looked or noticed because I just subscribe.    Depending on location there are even stores that sell these cards.   Some people often quit games and have extra cards left over and want to sell them although I would not recommend buying it that way and likely only trust a friend I know WELL to do it.   In any event there should be no need for him to pay recurring subscription for you.   Send him money and have him send you game cards :)

Game cards are definately an option, I used to use game cards all the time until I got tired of using them. However the stores where I live don't carry SOE game cards anymore, individual ones on ebay costs ~$6 more than the monthly fee you pay and are usually 30 day cards, SOE seems to only want you to pay for the station access which is $30/mo. and you get to play all the mediocre games that nobody seems to really like.

Yet SOE games have some of the best communities around. Coincidence? I think not…

I mean we are talking about people to stupid to cancel their account properly, how could their absence do anything but help the community?

Of course, small communities do make the best communities. No argument there.

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

K, gotcha.  But I can understand them trashing a company that took money from them and screwed them over.

If I was thinking about using Travelocity to go on a trip, I'd like to hear the honest opinion of people that used it in the past and how it worked out.

What did they mess up in the past to give them such a bad name?
Just a quick summary would be much appreciated.

Almost every title they get picked to run, they drive into the ground............

LOL what? Damn, I assume you haven't seen City of Heroes/Villains' community, that's about the best community I've ever been a part of and Tabula Rasa's is pretty close (though devs keep driving people away with their stupid patches), SWG/VG/EQ2/PS all had horrible asshats that after a while I stopped reading their forums. WoW's forums IMO is THE WORST. CoH/V's forums are full of lots of helpful and informative threads instead of flame and pwn threads.

Actually CoX is what I’m playing at the moment, and while it’s community is better then a lot of games out there it’s still very anonymous.  You unless you have someone of your global friends list chances they will be playing an alt before long and even if you do see them again you would never know.  The CoX community isn’t anywhere near as good as EQ, EQ2, or Vanguard (yes Vanguard).

You don't have clue about  what you are writing, right? You gotta be joking? Ah yes, you must be working for SOE.

    Whatever

I always love when people start in on the "hating SOE is the cool thing to do" instead of actually thinking about just why so many people hate SOE. I think some of the SOE fanbois here at this site just defend them to get attention.

The tier system? was this what made swg great? (truly everyone had the same dang build In the same mix of professions)
The meaningless caves? was this what made it so great? (nuttin to do except sit at the bottom and run a looping kill/loot macro)
I realllly cant think of anything that made swg great pre-cu, except that it had the name swg,
I truly dont think most of the people that logged in after cu really tried to play it through and as for a lot of people they were already venturing into other mmo's and used the cu to jump ship to play what they got into full time.
The big thing i seen that the cu did was add content , filled gaps (like used the caves as part of the storyline and made them useful and stopped all the aa atachments that fell down there so farmers wouldnt sit there for hours) Made the storyline of which that is starwars more colorful and put you in the storyline instead of ploppin ya on tat , here ya go kill a million whomp rats, yer here to kill rebels or the empire, hope ya can feel starwarsy.

Im a vet who has gotten over SWG simply because I realise that you can never go home anyways. What made SWG great was the community. It really is as simple as that, and probably more so than any other MMORPG weve as of yet seen. SWG truly depended on its players to make the game good. It was probably the last true sandbox game you will see released in a very very long time. Yes the world that we all played in was not overly impressive or anything. But you could truly build your own communities within the community. You focus on some very minor details concerning the old game there in your post. Who cares about the damn caves, or how you gained exp?

The crafting system on the economy both were the absolute best of any game in the genre I have ever seen. The devs decision to steer away from loot resulted in a very refreshing game system. Again thats something you're not likely to see again for a long time. Im not saying the current state of the game there is so god awful, Im sure it can be fun still for some people. But its a new game system thats plastered onto a game world that was not designed for it, so the game is and always will be a half assed attempt.

You are right.  Unless you add someone to Global Friends (and they accept) or they are in your SG/VG, the connections you make are temporary at best due to the amount of ALTs the average CoH/V player plays.  I know this for a fact being in the game for 3 years (left a month ago).

Once you get said individuals, though, the community is really good.

Then again, WoW forums aside, I met more good people in the game than bad.

Every game has assinine people, I don't care what the MMO title is.

WoW seems to have more, but it also has more subscriptions going than almost any other MMO.  Their ratio is probably the same, it's just a lot more when compared to other games.
