In my opinion LOTRO is better than WoW, i have played both and although WoW can be a fantastic game at times, i much prefer LOTRO.
These are some of the reasons why.....
- The overall gameplay is better
- The graphics are astonishing, WoW is abit cartooney
- The people who play LOTRO are nicer, more friendly and helpful, theres never any "Your a noooooooooooob"
- The storyline is better, it is easier to get into, partly because it is based on the films and books
- Its not as addictive, you may think thats a bad thing, but in my opinion it helps me to enjoy the game more
- The interface is better
- Its more grownup, you never get any annoying little kids trying to annoy you
- LOTRO has more potential with future expansions allowing you to go to the likes of Moria, Rohan and Gondor
Whats everyone elses opinion on this?

I totally agree. This is a game that is more about the journey than the destination. You get more out of it by taking things slow and enjoying the beauty and immersion around you. It's not about end game or being the best and having the most uberest loot.
Others may have a different opinion especially if you go in guns blazing get to max level in the shortest amount of time. This game isn't about end game or pvp (though it has those things it is not the focus.) There are so many things to do other than level or raid in this game.
Thats is what makes this game better for me.

I really want to say I liked LOTRO better, but I didn't. I didn't go much on the trial at all, other than the graphics being generally nicer than WoW's. It having a more mature community doesn't surprise me.
I think the game has a much better community, better graphics, and a much better story line. It also had a flawless launch from what I experienced, and gets more updates than most mmos I have seen. Oh almost forgot the music system is great both as a social and gameplay mechanic, it kept me playing the game for at least a month.
I do not think the gameplay is better since it is exactly the same as WoW and every other cookie cutter mmo, the combat system is almost identical to all the cookie cutter mmos as well, and although the story line for the quests is great they ruin it all by having all the of the quests boil down to kill x of y again like every other cookie cutter mmo. Theres also no real PvP in the game, just the PvM which when I played the game I found incredibly boring.
I think over all the game is a typical play it safe main stream mmo that adds a few things that are different but in the end it is more of the same, and therefore I found the game very boring after about 3 weeks. I think however you can do a lot worse than play lord of the rings online, but you can also do a lot better, I think over all the way I would describe LOTRO is average.
this is just asking to be flamed
I think WoW does have some features that are better than LOTRO's, just not as many, the PvP is probs better, the towns and cities are stunning, the raids are as good if not better, theres more to do once you reach the level cap, flying mounts sound awesome.
lotro looks better graphically imo...but i havent played it so i know nothing about gameplay
Both of them are good games, but if im going to choose, WOW is the best MMO games.
LOTRO has fresh beginning when you start the game, The cut scenes gives familiar feeling out of most single games. But it was only at beginning. The book quests are too systematic and the main purpose to complete those books quests to get better armors or unlock the next thingy. And the books become the core of the game. By forcing you to complete the quests otherwise, you wouldn't be able to continue to play the game.
LOTRO have too many unnecessary killing quest covered up all type of mobs in different zone, if there was new mob added then the game added the killing quest as well. The mob looks all the same from low level up to high level, goblins still goblins, it's not creative. By completing killing quests or certain quests to earn a trait but the limited trait slots is not properly given compare with so many traits in the game.
LOTRO is focus on quest and all quests are Find A to trigger quest, A told you to find B, now quest started, while you were doing the quest then you need to talk to C, because C will give you a sub-quest so you need to complete C quest to continue the B quest, then when you completed the quest, go to D to get reward.
Another quest type is kill 1000 wolf or whatever and this type of quest is one of the main quest infrastructure in LOTRO.
Al level 50, you are probably DONE everything, I mean everything included all quests, and earned all traits, lindred reputation with all factions except the balrog.
What's next? Actually, the game expect all players to play their 5 characters. One character 4-6 months, so 5 characters will be 20-30 months. As far as I know when I played the game, everyone have least 2x lv50, Myself played on 2 servers, total 10 characters, 3xlv50, and 3x lv40+, 2x lv30, 2x lv18, and nearly all Rift armor set and another type on 3x lv50, champion, warrior, and priest.
I have to disagree on few things...
Gameplay in LOTRO is more slow-paced, some take this as boring. Walking and hitting things is bit akward in LOTRO so IMO WoW wins this.
I don't see much difference in storyline. Both have pretty good.
LMAO.. no.. no way. You get to customize interface in WoW. In LOTRO you can only change skins and move things around bit?
I don't see much potential with LOTRO.. just same old fedex quests with different view and pretty much same for WoW.
These are my oppinions. My info may be old since I haven't played WoW in over 1 year and last time LOTRO 6 months ago.
The one thing that everyone seems to complain about with LoTRO is the lack of PvP. Since the game was specifically designed without PvP and they only added Monster Play to try and appease the people who wanted SOME PvP, that's to be expected. I really wish people would accept that LoTRO is not a PvP game and rather than criticising it just say that "I like PvP and since LoTRO doesn't have it, it doesn't fit my needs."
I played WoW for the free trial game and actually enjoyed it pretty much. If I weren't money and time crunched there's a fair chance that I would subscribe to it as well as LoTRO, but I would always play on a PvE server as I'm not a PvP fan.
yeah wow was a perfect mix of pvp of pve and LoTRO is my favorite MMO. Monster play does feed my hunger for Pvp
