I actually like the art style.

Subscribtions: EVE, SWTOR WOW, WAR, DDO, VG, AOC, COV, FFXI, GW, RFO, Aion
    +plenty of F2P, betas, trials

Female Dwarf player: WOW, VG, WAR, DDO
    .
Due to the recent economic crisis and spending cuts the light at the end of the tunnel was turned off. Sincerely, God.

If they incorporate the skill based model and the many  professions to choose from that was used in the old SWG and in the Clone Wars setting with this graphics style, I would happily give it a try. If it's strictly level based I think I'll pass or at the least go into it a bit disappointed.

Just remember that Thunderous is a paid shill and a viral-marketer, so take everything he says from that prespective.

You forget that  current playerbase is as good as not existing market .

It is  non-economical for  that amount of people you claim to be viral marketer to spend so much time  on an practically non existing  playerbase as market.

The other way round  it makes  sense.  There is  a big market  for an SW  game,  that could be attractive for SW  viral marketer but too bad they deny to  join ;)

So who is supposed to be paying me and where is my money?  At least I'm getting offered cash and not free playing time in a game that most people wouldn't be willing to play for free.

    Tecmo Bowl.

Aww, you beat me to the punch!  Saw this trailer in the movie theater tonight and was wondering what type of game would be made from it.  It has a video game look to it already.  Don't know about MMO but you know some type of game will be made to go along with it.  I doubt LucasArts would pass up the chance to make as much money from the movie as possible.  Remember the 2 major game changes to SWG were tied the new triology.  The first came around Episode 2 if I remember correctly and the second came with Episode 3.

I don't think this will be the style of any next SW MMO.  Yes there will be a game but it will be a console port just like all the ones made for the last three movies.  If it was, it probably won't come till after the TV show comes later.

I could be wrong.  The CU with RotW came right about the same time as Revenge of the Sith.  I don't remember seeing advertising in mags before it was launched like the original SWG had for a year.

Since this movie is supposed to be released in August, I would think they would already be promoting the launch of SWG replacement.

Of course if there was something else supporting this being the style of the next MMO I would like to see it.

it looks a heck of a lot better than the unplayable piece of tripe that is SWG right now.

Whatever a new Star wars MMO turns out to be, we'll all just have to deal with it one way or the other (i.e. play it or not).  Nobody is going to simply make an exact copy of SWG with updated graphics.

As Star Wars fans who want a good SW game, we can hope/push for a game that is truly unique, but we also need to be realistic and accept the fact that there are current trends in the MMO industry (read: WoW dollars).  The best way to look forward is to hope that there will be a game that takes the current trend and improves upon it.

Yes, I said look forward -- not backward.  A Jedi must learn that the past is gone.

You are setting yourself up for a BIG disappointment with stuff like that.

Make eat crow if I'm wrong but

    • There is no new SW MMO in the works
    • IF there was, no idea whats going to look like
    • IF there was, its not going to be like old SWG, odds are it will be some linear, class based Jedi game with all the usual generic MMO tricks of today being "kill 10 space rats" and "enter the scripted mission" with some sort of raid mechanic and capture the flag PvP at the end.

If you guys think the current SWG is 'WoW-like" what do you think the future holds? So far nothing, and I mean nothing BUT LotR (which pretty much duplicates WoW mechanics) has had any sort of success in the MMO market since WoW. You think anyone is going to get any backing trying to put an untested or failed formula out?

Unfortunately for us the virtual world concept is dead. Just take a look at all the games "in developement", all compartment games except for a couple.

    Sadly this is true....

But developrers need to focus on the ncihe crowd, and if the game is any good it'll expand beyond that IMO.

  • You guys sure this is a game and not something else?

I didn't even manage to watch the whole trailer...

I just had to turn it off while my Star Wars fanbrain was churning: "Is this really the future of Star Wars? Kiddie stuff? Whats next, my Pretty Star Warsy Pony?"

Someone is just whoring out for money these days it seems, with no thought behind it.... Heck his owncontinuity crew should have flagged the Clone trooper helmet with flash lights as a "WTF?" faster than a F-16 mechanic would have flagged a F-16 with a propeller on its nose.

agreed, saw the trailer today for this movie (went to see speed racer, which btw was awesome!) and I have to admit that I'm really not looking forward to this movie. It just, I don't know... it didn't seem epic enough, like empire seems epic, or even return of the jedi epic. In fact, the animation actually reminded me of the last TMNT animated movie that came out, especially in the human characters. Anyone know if they were using the same animators?

George has made no secret that he is marketing SW to a new generation of young fans, so this movie ties in perfectly. Yeah he is whoroing it out to us, but is this really new for ol' GL? Hell how many re-re-remakes of the original trilogy do we need to see or buy? He's turns everything he creates into a toy line and not always with continuity (see the Vader on a motorcycle).

This is nothing new for him, in fact I would say I would expect no less. He could give a rats butt about the original fans. He's found a new group of fans to cater to for the next 15 years....our children.

A Star Wars MMO based on either the Clone Wars or Knights of the Old Republic has HUGE potential in the RIGHT developers hands. My hopes are there for it but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Are there real informations about a new SW MMO out there?

At the moment i know only about some rumors and some blogs, from users that maybe know more, about a new MMO.

Ther are some people out there saying the Bioware is developing an MMO in the KOTOR setting but others are saying the Biowares MMO is not placed in the SW world but that an other not named studio is developing an new SW MMO that will start with the TV series at 2009. But this are no real infos only rumors.

The video that  was postet her is an video from the TV Series starting around the end of 2009.

Sorry for my bad english and best regards.
