Same as all other MMO's people will just move on, I was hardcore 2005/2006 and left after doing the closed beta for the expansion. Anyone still playing now with all that grinding needs their heads looking at. WoW was 2005/2006 for me, like Planetside was 2003/2004, next big ones will be AoC and then WAR so see you there.
YOU should get your head examined.
Since patch 2.3 the game never was better.
It''s the only MMORPG these days where the player decides HOW he/she plays the incredible rich game.
Hence 62.2 % MMO marketshare. hence guys like you are just looking pathetic
Have fun with the bad Conan loading screens and instanced laggy graphics.
Conan will NEVER surpass the 1.5% marketshare due to it's incredible bad game design.
Gameplay ALWAYS will prevail.
Whatever your on stop taking it, you sound like a complete Fangirl.
The game was and is good, the question was how will it die, the answer the same as all other MMOs. 2 years or more on any MMO and people start to drift off, I did the hardcore, I was in Sons of Temujin where we cleared Molten Core up to Naxx at the same time as the other leading guilds.
I got to do the closed alpha then beta for the expansion which was great but I soon realised the game was not going to be as good as vanilla wow so I left after getting my two mains to 70.
Now I like a lot of other people will try what others have to offer in the world of MMO like all the other normal people, now back off into WoW like a good little addict maybe Blizzard will invite you to do the next expansion alpha testing (rofl sure).
not as good as vanilla wow? Are you kidding me? It is widely recognized that TBC is a vastly superior experience than "Vanilla" WoW ever was! the Quests are better, the Dungeons are better, the Raids are better, the environments are better and even the PVP is better!
To the main topic: I've seen these threads created since WoW got released to great worldwide success "three months and wow will die" Is very near an actual quote of those times, 2004, right here on these forums.
Well, it is 2008 and wow is still alive and with most subscribers ever and now preparing to release a Russian client.... tell me, how many MMorpg you know of , not made in Russia, have a specific Russian client? Not many.
So I can see WoW going on for a really long time still considering many not nearly as succesful games like EQ, UO, D&DO are still alive and kicking.
Will it lose population? I guess eventually it will, nothing last forever and all that, but companies need to understand one thing, like Activision CEO said it himself: If you are gonna make a game similar to WoW, you NEED to BEAT it.
Being similar but worse will mean most of your customers will try it once and return to WoW.
How can you beat WoW on its own turf? I have no clue, do not even know if you CAN.
So diversify is the keyword here, make new different things. AoC and WAR will maybe do this, not challenge WoW but create your own new experience.
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
10+ years from now on we will still be seeing these idiots mumble how WoW is going to die, and we'll just sit back and pretty much laugh at their failure to even comprehend a fraction of what actually really makes this game tick.
idiots said WoW would die with the TBC expansion and the changes that came with it, did it die? No, it became even bigger.
Now the idiots are saying the same thing ,they said before the last expansion, but they still don't get it.....
I'm not even playing WoW any more but I'm not an idiot who fails to see that WoW was actually a great game and had many qualities that other mmorpgs weren't able to reach. All i see here, amongst the bad mouthing people,, are a bunch of burned souls, haters, and downright ignorant toolboxes, whose spiteful nature just seeks out to find something to hate or complain about.
Can only pity those who have nothing but hate left for a game...... a game. Makes you wonder what trauma they went through since they are at such state.

Fixed it for ya. Blizzard has already answered this question, you just weren't aware of it. All of it's servers continue to grow, North America, Europe and Asia. You doubters can theorize all you want, the facts are that WoW continues to grow across the board.
Its like the more ppl get effed by the pvp system the more casual/pve gamers sign up. Its almost like they want to get rid of pvp altogether......... maybe im just a fan of the old system. you know, when High Warlord meant something. I agree that its going to be a long slow death. OR! it could be like D2 and still have a small following 10 or so years later. However, both of those wagons ive already jumped off of.
A punch right between the eyes from Mr. Warhammer and a kick in the balls from Mrs. AoC. Then it'll slowly die of internal bleeding, until Blizzard decapitates it some time later with a brand spankin new MMO, or Starcraft XX, or Warcraft XX, or whatever the hell they're doing now.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Does anyone know when Human kind will die??? please for the love of god save us from the stupidity on this site. Every month there is a thread on how wow will die. Funny thing is the fanbois were telling us for years and months AOC was going to destroy it and it will revolutionise the mmo market LMAO. So much for that theory. While you keep saying wow will die, it actually gets stronger and stronger, so yoy shoudl ask what other so called next gen mmo wil die faster than wow lol.
I don't really know when Humankind will die but i'm guessing about 6 years before WOW.

Well that is surprising from a normal person's point of view. A game whose subscribers grow when the number of new and resubscribing subscribers exceed the number of people leaving, which is going on three years old and where the average subscription time is reportedly 3 months and is still growing? That is very surprising. Though looking on Amazon.com WoW is the 9th bestseller in the PC games so that does prove to be the case..
Well, the bestseller list isn't the way to look at it. People buy MMOs, but may only play them for a week.
Now, I say if Blizz keeps releasing these huge content expansions then they'll still be in business. I mean, siege machines are going to kick ass. there are even some (as said) that are controlled by multiple players. MY GOD, blowing up towns is going to be my top priority after I hit up some simple lv. 80 welfare epics.
By the way...Im pretty sure they won't release a WoW 2. They've built up WoW so much it'd be a waste of time to rebuild it. Besides, after playing this one for so long now, WoW 2 would ust piss me off.

WoW isnt going away anytime soon, I dont think any of the games out or in development will kill it, but they will loose a few accounts to them, doubtful enough to even hurt the game, too many folks still play and like it.
Ever since the intro to resilience, the pvp game and pve game are completely seperate. Its almost like two different games now. It looks to me like WoW is going to end up killing its self similar to what happened with swg, but over a longer time scale. Its sad because a person on the wow forums brought up the topic of resillence destroying the game and a dev (blue) replied by saying, we understand your concern and we will be adding superior items(blues) w/ resisilience to more reputation vendors. It just goes to show that WoW is allways going to be a endless grinding game and eventually people are going to see through this and move to other mmos.
*rolls eyes*
Sorry but WoW will not die. At least not in the "Auto Assault" sort of way. It will "die" like AC or DAOC or EQ or UO, etc...
Meaning that at some point in the far, far future there will be other games out there and over a long, long period of time players will move away.
However, that will be the most that will happen. It is also very possible that it will always continue with a large playerbase in perpetuity as they will add, change things etc.
People need to realize that just because you don't like the game or elements of the game that others will feel the same way. Last I checked all of us were significantly different with different tastes, different pet peeves, etc.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
We saw games "born" and "die" (i assume you are talking about audience here) all time. WoW wont be a exception. If you ask how long it will take the answer is unknow.
Meanwhile, there are some hints its already started:
There are still games around that weren't nearly as successfull as WoW. If games like AC, DAOC, EQ, UO, Lineage, etc are still around with a player base I don't see any reason why, at some long point in the future, WoW won't experience the same thing.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Its nothing Like EQ or UO, dont even kid yourself.
Your right, wow is much, much better and will probably out-live those games ten fold.
Much better? How do you figure? All WoW did was take the features from all the successful and innovative games before it (DAoC, EQ, UO, AC) and simplified it so much that a retarded monkey could play it. Better? Name one feature WoW has that isn't in an MMO that came before it, and that it did a better job with.
Comments
I don't think WoW will die out really, but it's not going to have the cult followings other MMOs like UO, Eve, EQ have.
Once you've geared up the game is over for you. There's nothing left to do.

WoW will die a natural death of old age in many, many years. Of course, by then Blizzard will already have another MMO out the door.
Its like the more ppl get effed by the pvp system the more casual/pve gamers sign up. Yea, true. Cause EQ or UO had over 10 million subscribers. Right?
wow will die at the day when blizz turns the server off.
And there will probably still be a million or so individuals crying about it then.
WoW will die when they disable the jump button!!!!

Argh
Diablo 3...get some.
Argh
Wow might die when people dont wanna level to lvl 1000 XD
oh well i would still give it a shot.
WoW will die......with a sequel
most accurate prediction i have seen so far on many many forums
