When-O-When can we have another STARWARS mmorpg?

Lets see...

My first love is STARWARS. My second love is MMORPGs. Now normally I would play SWG, but it suxass. I mean I could almost deal with the mind numbing gameplay if my friends still played. Hell, I might be able to get through it if anyone played. The truth is NO ONE plays this game anymore. Frankly I don't  see how this game with only 9k in subs spread out over 25 servers can even be called "MASSIVE".

The bottom line is, I am a STARWARS fan and I want a new SWG mmorpg.  Any chance for a SWG2?

    Check in SWG: General Discussion.

I am in the process of building 3d models (using Maya) and am putting a "Design Documentation" together for a new Star Wars MMO.  It is very early stages and I want to see what I can do and what happens.

lets face it swg2 will come out just after pigs fly and hell has frozen... :(

the only hope for a starwars mmorpg is some kind of cartoony

Star Wars "The Clone Wars" and that hope is years away and very small...

With less than 10k players left and left with a skeleton crew. I would find it hard to belive that LEC/LA isnt working with a new Star Wars MMO. Either alone or with a third party developer.

If they have learned their lessons. IT WILL NOT BE LAUNCHED IN A STATE OF BETA. They will take their time and make sure that the product will be polished and bug-free.

And will it be another WoW clone? Anything other than a open-ended MMO will fail. Why? becouse you cant make a linear story with only repeative content as endgame content for a universe as wast as Star Wars.

Well, we could only hope that there is a new star wars mmo coming.  But let's be honest here, no mmo comes out that is in anything but a state of beta.  Until gamers start demanding more for their money and their time it's just not going to happen.  Then to top things off, the market isn't really, unfortunately, clamoring for an open world sand box mmo.  With the budgets for these games going into the tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars then it is more difficult for a developer to pitch the idea for a game that isn't an EQ clone.

If a developer could get 1 million people to come forward and say here, here's $20.00 up front, non-refundable then maybe publishers would come around.  However I do not think there is a development house out there that has earned that much trust from the gamers.

The sad thing is, the entire reason LEC went with Verant as the developer of SWG was that they pitched something that wasn't "EQ in space".  Eventually some moron at SOE finally convinced some other moron at LEC that the reson SWG never hit the million subscriber number was that it wasn't "EQ in space" (well "WoW in space" by then).  Had development focused on fixing bugs and adding content to the game, instead of taking a sledgehammer to the profession system in a futile attempt to balance 1 on 1 PvP, the game would have done a lot better and they might not have felt the need to vivisect the game to chance a mythical playerbase comprised of small children and lobotomized morons (then again they might have, since the folks who made the decisions were morons to begin with).

the storyline has only to do with content and not much with the pvp, in pre-cu what was there to do content wise aside from pvp and sit macro'ing at the end of some cave? Pre-cu had people leaving the game regularly because it was a shallow empty bug ridden game then, and when the cu came the rest of the people that were left didnt like the change because it attempted to fix the classes, bal;ance the game, it left the pvp open ended as it always has been, and made content and stories to play through, seriously man, you can recreate whole battle scenes as a player ingame with that new thing they have, how open can content be, you can quest, make yer own stories, do anything. I like swg the way it is now, it has stuff in it, things to do, things to pursue ingame, i sure dont miss solo group quests for hours, lol, anyone remember that bug pre-cu where you could call yer droid 10 times and make yer own group and take all the cash? That is what i think people miss is the bugs and exploits, after playing the nge for awhile i feel the origonal swg was just so thin, empty and shallow full of bugs and exploits, another bug i liked was stacking crystals in my lightsabre pre-cu, you could add crystals go over a zone line tkae the crystals out, the power would stay in em and you could repeat this and make a crazy overpowered lightsabre, one bug that made me angry was when ya were fighting someone and they went in the water and you couldnt fight em anymore, idk man, pre-cu was horrible and a headache, i prefer the nge swg after i had taken the time to play it, its not bad, even better than the origonal, but this is all my opinion, some people love to play in broken empty games though where they can be unbalanced and use exploits.

    playing eq2 and two worlds

That aint gonna happen. Smed and SOE is hell bent on the NGE. They will never offer classic servers becouse that would leave all the NGE servers COMPLETLY empty. Maybe Badger and Obraik will still play?

Its either a new Star Wars MMO or the flightless bird for us. We just have to play the waiting game and see what lady Fortuna brings us.

I for one had a blast. It seems to me that SOE could have fixed all those bugs. The bottom line is they didn't. Instead they went and just destoyed the game. I don't care what you say, SWG was making a comeback in 2005. I guess we will never know.....sad!

I don't see a SWG 2 happening.  However, a KOTOR MMO or Clone Wars MMO might be something that has potential years down the road.  At this point there is no hope for a SW MMO in the near future.  There is hardly even any gossip let alone any sparks.

On a good note; there will be a great SW game called The Force Unleashed for consoles this Fall.  It will be worth playing because it deals with the story line of what happened between episode 3 and 4.

Like you though I'm hoping like hell somebody takes on a new SW MMO.

Not to sound pessimist but who is going to pay the server upkeep or buy powerfull enough server to run it and I doubt some 5/5 mb internet connection can support many players on server.

SWG remade from scratch that was actually made by Blizzard and used the exact same format as World of Warcraft, graphics, game play and polish, without all the raiding and with FPS combat and pvp content ala Planetside...I'd play!!!!!!!!!

Why do ya want another Star Wars Mmo when there's  a perfectly adequate one already ??

  • rshandlonrshandlon Member Posts: 173

I know SOE/LA screwed up things with the NGE and Combat revision, but honestly the game was going down before both of them ever came around.  When I quit playing, about 6 months before all that,  the servers were leaking population like an open faucet.  People just gave the game no chance after the change so they could lay the blame sorely on the shoulders of the company.

I get so tired of all this CRAP talk years after it has all happened.  The game was failing not because of the companies, but because the Star Wars franchise as an MMO was failing, plain and simple.  Look at all the successful games and the genre they fill, it is NOT a sci-fi Star Wars type atmosphere, its a fantasy atmosphere that is popular.
