more casuals didnt play because you needed a gig of ram to play it. Most people (casuals) had 256k ram and were using AOL on their dial-up connections at the time. SWG was unplayable to them..literally. SWG was the most causual friendly game ever made. What other game could you master your professions and buy all your high-end pvp or pve gear in less than a week? What other game has half of its professions that are non-combat? What other game had professions that were totally social professions? When they laid out exactly how much you would need to unlock jedi after the village is when the game became not so casual friendly. Getting jedi was the anti-casual. Most of our new players quit after going to the village. The rest of the problems for casuals were solved with vehicles and player city shuttles..ya know the huge time sinks that casuals hate. My opinion.
The skill box system made it very casual friendly for me. When I had only a half an hour to play, I'd pop in to the cantina, play the horn, chit-chat and buff a bit, then log out for the night. Or sometimes I just go hunt a few skins for a tailor friend of mine, then drop them off at her vendor. Fun and not very time consuming.
If I had more time, I'd do one of the dungeons with a group of friends, the genosian caves and the corvette were my favourite. I had the corvette missions figured out so used to take groups of new players on tours of it
Even once I got to the village, I did the whole jedi thing casually. I never felt forced to grind for hours on end, what was the rush? That's why it took me nearly a year and a half to get to my final village quest lol.
It was just as I was about to complete the final phase of the village quests that the NGE launched and rendered the accumlated total effort of the past year and a half meaningless.
I left for plenty of reasons, but all of them connected to the NGE.

I used to tell people to not rush the village. Just turn in xp as you get it and play the game. I stopped playing the game to get my jedi back when is was mastered professions, and I regretted doing that. I missed out on alot, although I gained alot from it too..it was just personal gain. Knowledge mostly. So I always told people not to rush unlocking...boy was I wrong.
As far as casuals,I dont understand why people complained about swg...they never use examples, and if they do, those examples compared to other games are trivial if not worse than swg. SOE said it didnt appeal to casuals..so people repeat it I guess.

Well I started as a casual player in SWG a month after launch and quickly became a hardcore player. I was addicted (it was actually very sad) My fiance and I played every chance we got. Then came CU he was angry and wanted to quit. I however enjoyed cu I could finally kick his a** you see I was a rifleman combat medic. Woot I could finally pvp. OPPs sorry getting off the point. When NGE came yes I hated it but I held out hope that it was some sort of sick joke and they would fix everything. I stayed fors atleast 6months after NGE started. I stayed until my guild and city were dust. I left because I was alone in a ghost town and I hated the game engine. Not to mention how pissed I was about working sooooo hard to earn jedi and now anyone can have it. So yes part of it was everyone leaving but they only left before me because I was in denile about how horrible the game had become. I admit that I have recently resubbed and guess what it is still the same it makes me want to scream and cry if I try to play my "Elder Jedi" I don't plan on staying just wanted to see. The point being that it was NGE that killed the game not everyone leaving. I tryed to stay but what was the point when a game that was once an addiction for me was soo horrible.

SOE ruined the game. It's called listen to your subscribers; something they refuse to do still.
Collections was suppose to be the long awaited answer to years of pleas for new content. Playing fetch is not my idea of adding new content. Oh and the holo grinds, if you have bad luck in real life, don't even consider playing this game because the loot system will be working furiously against you.
The game is not getting better. I check it out for a few weeks on every major update, each time I am greatly disappointed. The game isn't getting funner or more interesting; its getting more and more frustrating. I can't stand to play the game for more than 30 minutes now. I feel as though I am being punished the longer I stay logged in.
I was one of the few that supported CU. I didn't aggree with the original combat in the game. It was very boring and imbalanced. For those who disagree, I seem to recall Comp Clone TKS everywhere I looked. If you were ranged, you were SOL cause you couldn't do crap PvP or PvE.
CU came around and threw the system into chaos, thousands left the game. It ruined my guild and my player city. So I passed what was left of it all to other people; which it eventually all poofed.
The game will never be comparable to any decent game on the market. It's always going to be "that game" everyone hates to think about and prays they will never see another SOE title on the market. I see lots of people sitting around in SWG waiting for people to get bored with their current games and come flooding back to SWG. That is never going to happen. The game is far past its peak which was about a year after launch, its got no place else to go but down.
The game will most likely never be completely run down; there will always be a small fan base keeping it going, but its never going to be even close to ground breaking. New games are popping out on the market frequently. The more new games they release, the worse off SWG is. SWG was the airplane that never got off the ground.
If you think about that for a minute it makes sense. The game was massively flawed from day one; all the revamps they made to it only added to the issues.

If you were ranged, you were SOL cause you couldn't do crap PvP or PvE. My M. rifleman/ M. fencer/pistoleer/medic could do anything he wanted with his rifle. ALL pve and own melee fighters cause they couldnt KD me. Especially TKS. TK was weak in pvp except vs. jedi btw. ALthough going all ranged you were gimped a tad more than going all melee. But everything couldnt be balanced. gimped skills usually had DOT weapons to make up for it. Carbs and pikes ect.. There were great PVP'ers under every combat profession. Master bounty hunter was the only worthless ranged combat profession IMO. Not to mention in group PVP/PVE none of that mattered. There were some really stupid things that the curb was supposed to adress..adding levels ruined any help the CU gave. It fixed the stupid things but made the fixes useless unless you were able to get lev 80 with your template, which meant going all combat with some combat medic or doc. It actually made more clones than pre-cu. Thats all i have to say really. Just wanted to comment on that part. I know the major flaws it had too. Yes it is the customer's fault for SOE trying to shove the freshly pinched steamer that was the NGE into our mouths.
If only we all had swallowed, things would be so much better.
