SB does pwn the n00bs. Noobs are victimized and raped right away. There is nothing like stalking a group of noobs who are hunting and following them around stealing the money out of their pockets as they make it. When you tire of stealing, you can then backstab them [with flaming fists in my case, sundancer] and kill every one of them from the shadows. Insanely fun for the stalker, painful for the victims. Best pvp ever, yes. Awesome game.

This does not define a game as having "the best PvP ever". What it does is say that you get off on abusing people simply because the game system enables you to. Players like are are what threatened to kill the game in the first place. And, also, are the kind of assholes I and my friends would hunt down and kill.
The fact that you can assrape lower level players does not make a game good. The fact that you can tweak your character flavor of the month to fully exploit the way the game is designed so you can take out other players does not make a good PvP game; it's not a game based on player skill and it's not a game that is fun for most folks, even those that enjoy PvP games.
This makes it a BAD game, not a good game.
I played SB from BETA and for quite a long time. I gave the Devs chance after chance and held on as long as I could. Finally, when my server had few folks on; cities and towns were nearly empty, and the only ones left were grief players zerging your city and talking shit to you in /tells over it, I finally said why. Why play a game where you have to pick the class and the skills the game system likes the best.
The problem is the mentality. I remember being harassed by someone becuase I was "talking in character". HIs comments to me was that SB was not a role-playing game and I was a retard and a n00b.
That's the mentality of the game; and yes, went back during the "hey, we fixed all our problems, we activated your account, come check us out" and well, it still is the same. They didn't fix it. The classes are still unbalanced.
I have no need to defend why I think you guys are wrong. You think you're not and that's fine, go play Shadowbane to your heart's content. There are enough of you for them to justify them making a new expansion. [But then, I do notice it's really hard for an MMORPG to die and go away (hell, even the REALLM is still around). The only one I've seen has been EB&B (but that's another topic).]
The problem with SB are many and have been fully detailed more times than I care to worry about. The biggest problem is that I thought the game had such tremendous potnetial and was told flat out it won't be a better game than it already is. And in all they've done they've proven that. To me the game is really 1/4 of a game and stops short.
But, that's okay, dissappointing but okay. Because, evidently, there is a niche market for a game like this.
Me? I have seen my share of PvP games and have come to the conclusion that while *I* like them for certain aspects, it is too easy for griefing little pieces of shit to ruin your game for no other reason than they can. And not only can they, but they do; and they keep on doing it because that is what they enjoy. Now, I know all the arguments, all games have griefers, blah, blah, blah. I've been around longer than most of you (hell, I have kids I'd be are as old as most of you). So, yeah, there is griefing. Some games give griefers more creedence than others; more chances and ways to grief. Shadowbane just happens to be one of those games.
My thoughts on PvP vs no PvP have come full circle. Maybe it's my age, maybe it's the fact that I've seen the same types of players from UO to SB and will see them in Mourning and Darkfall; PvP is'nt the end-all be-all of RPGs. And, IMO, full PvP and RPGs don't necessarily go together.
now flame away and tell me how I don't know shit or what the hell I'm talking about

So you don't like PVP then fine. Don't play PVP games then
Don't rip on Shadowbane because you don't like PVP games.
Its the best PVP game out there, and people who like PVP know it.
Great thread. I started playing SB online by accident 1.5 years ago. Have not left or tried another. It continues to stay interesting with all race/profession combinations. The new patches overall have added a new twist each time and the TOO will be awesome. The addition of a new island, vamps, crafting items with resource mining and domain ownership shoul dkeep it interesting. I started like most learning the game, leveling, getting pked, rerolling toons once I realized i gimped them, etc. Now i really enjoy the pvp feature and seiges. Last night was a 5 hour session verses our enemy neighbor and it was back and forth constantly as both sides kept logging different characters to find an edge. Time went very quickly. This game takes time to learn as i suspect tehy all do. Most guilds I have noticed will let you join, learn and contribute in some fashion until you get the hang of it. I learned the most on the Death server in EOBM nation - great experienced players that helped me figure out the game. Give it a try and play to pawn . Try Mourning first it has decent political alignments and nations. Vengeance is a tough first place due to really hard core PVP alignments. Enjoy. AMF

They don't charge you after your 15 trial is ended. The account is automatically being locked. There is zero charge for the trial, and no charges after 15days, that's why there's no cancel button.
In my opinion, ShadowBane is the BEST PVP MMO out there. Right now there's NO better PvP MMO on the market. With a very balanced character system, very advanced character build system, with tons of character possibilities, great open pvp, with tons of PvP events (Banes, Mines, etc), amazing City Consturction system which allows you to build a full, defendable and destructable city for your Guild, and very exiting in game politics. As someone said before, this game is for hardcore PvPers and people who enjoy tactics and politics. Guild politics play an extremly important role in this game. This game is NOT for quest seeking, roleplay loving MMO players.
In a conclusion, if you enjoy hardcore PvP, large scale open PvP battles agains 100s of people at moments, or extreme guild politics in which every move of your guild can either make you glorious or make you burn down to ashes, then this game is for you.
Well, I have played since beta, and I am playing in the new expansion beta also. On Mourning, we dominated the server for almost a year. The Undead Lords, my guild, still play in a diminished form, with most of us playing the WoW beta.
PvP in Shadowbane is by far the best out there, and only UO rivials it. The class balnce is very good. There are soo many combos, and new templates. The New Expansion is adding alot of great new ways and spots to Pvp and will ensure action all the time, not just banes.

You are right low level players do get griefed. There are also guilds out there that will take in these new players and teach them and help them. They have improved the game alot, but there are still problems in the game (which are not that bad). With ToO you will see more improvements. I am in beta now and it is totally different game.
