Looking for a fun and immersive Sci-Fi MMO

Well for starters, I was a long time SWG player, both pre and post NGE. Despite the huge mistakes made in changing that game, I kept coming back to it because I wasn't able to find another game that quite replicated the experience for me. I like being able to travel through space in a ship, and also explore various planets on the ground. Are there any decent games out there that have these features? I know there was a rumor of a Firefly MMO(which is a dream come true for me), but I haven't been able to find any recent news about it.
