I think I'm going to be one of them. I've run the course on every other game out there that I was interested in. I just need something new and this is going to be it. I enjoy getting into games at the beginning a lot more than being a late adopter. I really don't even think this game is going to be that great, but I'm finding myself scrambling to still try to get into the early start on Friday, and if I'm do I'm going to blow a vacation day to take off work and play 24/7 all weekend.
How many others out there are in this same boat?

I got it because I'm REALLY bored and need a new game right now. My plans got changed when the other game got pushed back ;( Hopefully AoC will be a good play.

I'll be buying it because WoW is a complete trash game, SB is a dead game, DAoC is too old to go to, so AoC is the only option atm, I was in the open beta and had a helluva time. The combat system is extremely fun, unless you decide you suck at it and cheat it, =o.
im bored to tears. i needed a new game. this will be it for at least 40 days.
chips, dips chains & whips.
The last pay-to-play MMO* I played was Vanguard. I guess the experience scarred me or something. Anyway, I'll admit part of the reason I decided to play AoC was I've been thirsting for a MMO*, any MMO*, for a while. They had good timing.
Me, because AoC combines (so to speak) 2 of my favorite games! Everquest II & Medieval II.
An MMO and Seige warfare
<ducks and doges tomatoes and rotten fruit>
I got sick of other MMO's and am hoping that AoC is actually worth my time. I've played just about every MMO there is to play f2p or p2p, with a decent amount of time in each. About 1/3 of the way to max atleast, other games just about to max. I'm hoping this game is less like those and has that immersion factor I'm looking for. The last games I really liked was GW and FFXI. Have been on a seach since. There was always something missing, either the gameplay was too repetitive, combat wasn't engaging enough, lack of detail in the world, community sucked, no story involved, or it's click to move (which I HATE). I'm hoping that AoC will not have any of these, and if they do, it's not too bad.
So yea you can say I got AoC jsut to play a new game. But I want a new game because the other games I've played are horrible.
Me.
New is fun and exciting.

If your looking for a game that has blood and gore and makes AOC's zones and loading screens look flat out stupid and small, I would suggest trying out Requiem:bloodymare. For a F2P game ,the world is huge and open. The graphics are pretty decent and actually after playing requiem's closed beta and then playing the open beta for AOC, i would rank Requiem much higher in the fun factor.

LOL thats a Blizzard fanboi if I have ever seen one.
Seriously though, people need to stop comparing this game to WoW. WoW has been around for over 3 years and has had many problems along the way that people seem to forget. If you want to compare AoC to WoW as it is now, come back in 3 years. If you didn't take part in the WoW beta then you really can't judge the games at all.
I don't know if this is a fair question. The main reason people play a new game is because its new.
I am buying AoC because its new and compelling. I will stay with AoC if the siege warfare, PvP and raiding is fun.
If AoC lacks fun, I will go back to Tabula Rasa and keep an eye on WAR, Bloodymare and Chronicles of the Spellborn. Hell, I might try some of those out regardless of how awesome AoC turns out.
Yeah alot of MMO's have been following a disturbing trend of having their best numbers at release and then falling off from there. WoW has probably been the major benificiary of this since it seems to be a fallback game for alot of people. Until someone gets it right that will continue. Right now it's sort of a toss up as to where this game will fit in. I've gone back and forth thinking this game might do well and might be a disaster. I think it will end up having a small but loyal following. I think it needs to keep about 200k at least to do well long term. They will need a solid release to do that.
Does just to kill time until Warhammer preorder beta starts count? if so me +3
reqiuem is a horribly boring grindfest like all the other f2p korean mmos
Almost did then played it awhile decided i ll wait without a MMO.
Honestly I decided to buy the game the second someone picked up the Conan IP and was basing it largely on Howard's original works. I'm really glad that a capable company got behind it and that they chose the lead designer they did too.
I do think it's a fair and perceptive question.
If I wasn't so desperate to play a new game, as a break from my current games, I probably would have passed on AoC launch and waited a month or two to see how the game held up in retail.
Great timing for Funcom, because I know my situation isn't unique.
They've hooked me into a purchase, now the question is will the game earn a renewal after the included time is over? I'm ambivalent about the likely answer, at this point I'm just hoping it will at least hold my interest for 40 days.

Got it because I've been wanting to play the game since I first heard about it. Played beta, was fun... but at the same time I was a bit skeptical of the game, however I preordered anyway. So yes, I did buy it to get away from WoW..
At the very least I will play until Warhammer, at the very best... years?
Me.
I'm bored with all of the ones currently out. CoX is an excellent game but I have done all I care to do in it. WoW is a pretty good game but again, no more. Others that I have played (and it has been a lot of them) I am quite frankly glad to be rid of.
If Conan is entertaining for 4 months I will consider it a resounding success.
Guilty as charged.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
I maybe a sad rabid AoC fanbois, but in reality I got this game because everything else on the market sucks sweaty goat balls right now! I've been playing BF 2142 for the last year, going from MMORPG to MMORPG trying to find something that isn't a stinky turd. AoC is next on the list for me to try out and it has a better chance of success than anything else so far. I tried the OB and it ran well and looked good and I liked it, I'm downloading early access as I type this .
Some might think I'm wasting my money, but I play MMOs and there hasn't been a decent release to waste any money on so far this year! So I'm willing to go all the way and get early access, if it turns out to be a turd then so be it. Atleast I can bitch and slag off the game on these forums and no-one can accuse me of never playing and just jumping on the hate bandwagon

I buy it because it´s really great and it also feels like something new.
The open beta was most entertaining and exciting.
I buy all the big MMORPGS that come out. I'm not really impressed with AOC, so I'll play it a month , and then decide if i want to continue
reqiuem is a horribly boring grindfest like all the other f2p korean mmos
And AOC is not a grinder as well? Hate to break it to you pal, but all mmo's are grinders in one way or another.
I was merely stating facts. Requiem is a more open world mmo, were AOC is a loading screen mess.
Requiem has quests and guild vs guild play as well as a auction house and crafting system, be it on the same lines as Tabula Rasa.
Just because it is a F2P mmo doesn't make it bad.
