Uses for Dwarves and Gnomes

Weapon-XWeapon-X Member Posts: 70

A lot of people complain about Dwarves and Gnomes, because:

A) They're not visually impressive, and

B) It doesn't make much sense that a Gnome could ever be a warrior, or that Dwarves could ever match, say, Taurens in a straight-up firefight.  A few people even feel that it cheapens the entire concept of Races to try and enforce equality between what should obviously be "weak" races and "strong" races, in terms of physicality.  Their argument is sound- was there really anyone who ever played Tekken Tag that honestly thought the Japanese schoolgirl should have been able to beat the killer robot?

So what to do with Dwarves and Gnomes?  After much thought, the answer hit me:  Furry slippers for Taurens.  That's right- Taurens should be given a Crafting skill that allows them to kill, gut, and tan Dwarves, and then use them as stylish yet inexpensive footwear.

This idea came to me after running my Tauren Warrior through a Dwarven Village, and realizing that I had several of them stuck to my hooves.  They made soft, comfy alternatives to horseshoes, and looked kind of cute besides, with their hairy little heads bobbing up and down, just like Bunny Slippers.

Of course, this still leaves the problem of what to do with Gnomes.  Too small to make good shoes, and their skin isn't thick enough besides.  I'm thinking maybe mittens, but I don't see much of a market for them.

Awww, you forgot to mention the best thing about Gnomes and Dwarves.

    C) You don't have to play them if you don't want to.

What do you suggest they do? Make all of the alliance races very weak and all of the horde really strong? That's what it would turn out as if we didn't have this balance and equality.

ok try and grasp this.....yes gnomes are small and not physicaly adept........but man you should not have dissed dwarves on a forum i read! first off a dwarf is not all that small....and twice as broad as a human. They are forge workers and trained warriors.....i know this from playing far to many role playing games including much D&D where dwarves even have bonuses against orcs goblins and giants just because they are trained to kill them, Even in EQ dwarvs has massive str and con and wage war with the ogres. And even in the warcraft games example WC3 the mountain king is some scary stuff in melee dont you agree?

    ok my ranting is over

Ya, dwarves are actually VERY strong, and I bet they could take on a tauren one on one. But a gnome? Come on now....maybe as a rogue.  Dwarves are actually the only race Id ever play on alliance, that is, if I ever actually even wanted to even play alliance in the first place. The horde is just too bad ass.

Who is to say they aren't 'weaker'? But you'd have to take into consideration that your big cow self could probably take out my wee-gnome toosh with one hit, if you manage to connect. Miss - and you'll have my toothpick of a sword through your throat before you can lumber away.

As far as dwarves go, being 3ft tall can have advantages - the lower center of gravity would make you a literal brick wall. Toss a dwarf a shield and he should have no problem fending off some nasty blows.

Its really just a whole 'David/Goliath' thing. If you can't outmuscle 'em, out smart or maneuver them.

umm, besides dwarves having such a small stature, have typically been considerd extremely strong and rugged. when i picture a drawf in a fanacy setting i think of a short, mean little body builder, who is as wide as he is tall, and pure muscle. to me i think they would be extremely powerful, especally with the dwarven armors and weapons forged out of mithril and other fantacy components, like dragon scales and the like. to me dwarves should be one of the most powerful warriors, just look at the montain king on W3 ;)
