AoC is going to crash and burn?

ethionethion Member UncommonPosts: 2,888

Well launch day is coming and I'm sure this is the question on many peoples minds.  Some of us remember the excitement around AO and the horrible days following the launch of that game...

So lets see how our collective powers of prediction are.

These aren't very good choices.  I think it will have it's bugs.. maybe some server problems early on.  But, I expect it to go smoothly enough for the early accessers to get to level 20 before the 20th of May.  There's really no point in prediction, we'll just have to see what happens tomorrow at.. noon EST?  Somewhere around there..

I think the hype for both AOC and WAR exceeds actual gameplay

    both games are overhyped

The choices weren't ment to be a qualitative review of the game performance but more of a bottom line subjective view on the overall launch.  All games have bugs of varying degrees but whether you consider a game a success is more about your personal feelling about how bad the bugs are and how good the game is.  This is really subjective so it varies from person to person.   The measure of success or failure then isn't specifically any one thing but a combination of things.  There is also some herd effect where if I things are bad enough the herd starts to stamped killing the game verbally, not that if this happens it didn't need killing ;)

So the poll is from the overall perspective of how we will feel about the game after the launch.  I think asking the same poll several days after launch will be a facinating experiment.

I state unequivocally....it will go WAY better than Vanguard, but will be no LOTRO launch

Put your thoughts between those two, and you will have AoC launch

  • COORSCOORS Member UncommonPosts: 353

I was also going to respond with a legitimate prediction, but the choices are just not good.

I think that launch will go more or less like other major MMO's. Not as smooth as LOTRO, but not overly problematic either.

Was sceptical a couple weeks ago with the performance issues people were experiencing, but they seem to have done their homework and gotten, at least, a good handle on the problems.

Pre-ordered, but I won't be utilizing the early access. Don't enjoy downloading HUGE files, so I'll wait until I recieve the CD's and install from them.

Be definition the NDA is ineffective tomorrow since everything will be out in the public.

Im going to lmao, if its a bigger failure than Vanguard. Not out of malice or anything, but this game is being hyped more than Obama for president. lol I hope that they succeed though. More options on the market = more competition for Warcrack.

The choiced weren't meant to be anything other then a sad troll attempt by none other then.. Ethion, congratulations! how many trolls posts do must you do before you fill your quota for the month?

Grow up man, no one cares how badly you think age of conan will be, and I think you need to just let it go. Not everyone is going to like the game, and obviously the launch is going to be pretty hectic and probably crash a bit, but almost no launch has been smooth and perfect, except for maybe LOTRO, but they spent so much time on their beta and rehashed their own engine so that shouldn't even count.

dunno but I don't care.  I liked the game in OB so I'll be happy no matter what.

Imo initially it's going to be a relative success but I don't see it having any kind of real staying power.

After leveling a toon or two to max level most players will split since the endgame is obviously not designed with casuals in mind... It's either tiered PvE raids or guild-based siege PvP. Both of those require a lot of time and social commitment and I don't think this will appeal much to the average Joe, especially in these post-WoW times.

After playing some today, I can honestly say it's by far the best MMORPG out there in my opinion so far with SO much potential.  I hope this game goes huge.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Do people just label anything they don't like a troll?  My vote was that the game would be a success.  The choices above are bad, average, great.  I'm not sure how that is something you percieve as a troll if anything I'm skewing the results more positively having used the word anticlimatic for average, which might make some people think it is a bad thing and increse the number of people that select great...

Ethion have you pre-ordered the game?

If not will you be buying it?

I agree the choices are not the best. AOC will be fine. The veterans MMO players know twhat to expect with a launch. the majority of players who only know the polished life of WoW may be dissapointed.

Posts like this do way more damage then good, some kind of posts were there right before Vanguard was released.

Dont get me wrong Iam AoC fan, have early access, client is patched, bunch of guildies on board with me, but do not make those posts because the fact is game have some performance issues that are not only bound to low/medium end PC's but even high end ones. ( and other stuff ... )

So looking forward for AoC EA.

And note to those who bought game based on fan posts like the one i quoted -> expect some issues as most likely it wont be smooth release.

If you cant handle that its best to wait at least week or two after release to get some good data how game is progressing ... if you expect very polished stuff wait for at least 3 more months.

I have pre-ordered it and in spite of all the problems I had early on in OB was very encouraged on the last day when the miracle patch hit.  There are things I don't like about the game but hey the day there is a perfect game will be the day we all hit the jackpot... On the whole I think I'm going to like AoC a lot based on what little I've seen.  I'm just praying that the launch goes well and that they were able to fix a number of bugs.  I play every MMO at one point or another although some I cancel based on beta.  But like I say your atitude about a game is based on two things, how you like it, and how buggy it is.  The more I like it the more I'll tollerate, even if being vocal about it.  Being vocal means I like the game and want to make noise to get the problems fixed.  I'm not a troll :P  If I don't like a game and give up on it I'll not send a single post cause it is no longer of interest to me.  Case in point, Tabula Rasa, and Hellgate london.  Both games I played either in release or even bought but decided they didn't work for me....  You won't see any posts from me in those forums after I gave up on the games.

Since this thread doesn't mean anything...

    Of course it will.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
