Pros
Nice graphics
Starting zone is intresting
Cons
Instancing and load screens: Takes away immersion gives a sense of F2P MMO in a sense.
Combat is not as great or different as made out to be.
Graphics while they are nice does not seem vivid or unique. I do not know how to explain but it seems to look far less realistic than Oblivion.
Lack of intresting classes most of them are melee types.
I think its nice game but i think people are gonna get bored of it real soon since there is only one starting zone and not many differences between the races. Hopefully the later zones and quests are little more non linear. Also you do not feel a sense of purpose in this game so what exactly are you supposed to do?

You have been in game, what an hour? Bit premature to review a new MMO based on that kind of game time. Tortage is designed to ease you into the game. Give it a bit more time, get out of the newb area and then give us your impressions.
I doubt you played more then 30 mins and how can you say lack of intrestring classes when each is completly different, even if you made all 12 classes ,you couldnt have gotten more then lvl 5 on all,and that would mean you only saw the first 2-3 spells ,wich are in the common/shared pool of most classes.
Graphics far realistic from Oblivion, what are you playing it on ? .. are you playing it with your monitor offline ?
if the beta leaks are true ... the OP is right .
not many will keep playing for long when they find out the grind from 40 -80 consists of 3 maybe 4 zones ?
im sure some one else that knows for sure will reply and correct me .
can we get more details about the combat ? From what I read and saw on video clips it made me consider playing a caster (mage or a healer) to avoid that directional garbage
Conqueror and Guardian seem to me like similar classes with latter wearing little heavier armor, should have merged into one class with option to spec based on feats perhaps?. Same with Barbarian and Assasin, was disappointed that some of the classes that i have read about like Lich were axed off reduced the number of caster classes there.
As for skills was lv 6 i guess you will get access to few more later on but i did not like how all skills are automatically given to you as you lvl up. I wish there was little more depth where you get to choose what skill to train similar to GW.
As for graphics i do not know how to explain may be the lighting effects were bit off in my computer.
I dont trust a review written by a person who has only made one previous posting on the forums.
And my detector is acting funny when I read your post.
with a pre-launch hype this big, this game cant realy get boring fast. this game will be even more apealing to younger audiences than WoW because of the M rating.
Combo system for melee i had enraged strike and Brutal enraged .. you choose combo based on the shielding of the target. So if he is not shielded to left use that paticular skill.
Why does it not occur to people that some of the posters with 3 posts are actually NEW PEOPLE who just TRIED THE GAME for the first time? Omg, no way right!?

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Order of the White Border.
Been watching a friend play this not long ago, he seems pretty happy about the game - a lot of technical problems seemed ironed out, and while not exactly polished, it's running better than I expected. I will try the buddy key thing when the game goes live for real. I don't really want to, tbh, but I promised my friend I would.
But I can't imagine I will play for very long because it seems very linear, only one starting area, constrained zones and overuse of instancing so it doesn't really appeal to me. But maybe the 7 day trial will convince me otherwise.
It's not a disaster of a game by any means, which is refreshing.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
I bet if his review was "omg the game is awesome" you'd have no problem believing him
To the OP, grats on making level 6 and knowing all there is to know about AoC. You may stop playing the game now. Get out of Tortage post lvl 20 and post then, stop wasting our time with your crap.
This is a copy/paste from a hardcore raider from WoW EU
AoC will be great game. It is in much better shape than WoW was in retail. The combat system is absolutely gorgeus. finally it looks like some gladiators fight, not some stupid monkeys trying to jump over enemy's back... Combat requires skill (shield management), tactic (collision), thinking - it reminds me .... Virtua Fighter serie a little bit. It wasnt typical fighting game which usually works like this: punch , punch, fatality, bleee, ahhh, peeeew game - it was about thinking, anticipating opponent moves etc.
WoW is great for first mmorpg. But if you played wow for 3 years (and earlier you played other mmorpg's), you're absolutely tired of wow. Everything is so casual friendly that you have a feeling like you're playing a game for 10 years old children.
To be honest Wotlk will be the big misunderstanding. Where are those flashing news ? There wont be any. Deathknight ? pfff, another Alt. New continent ? Get a life. To put it straight: it'll be TBC 2. Same schema, no creativity.
At this point, i prefer to donate Funcom, than Blizzard. They had monopoly and all they can is to develop same set for priest, mage and develop new flashing alt (Deathknight).
At the current state, AoC looks better in almost every aspect. Graphic, combat, no pink gnomes . No merged 1,5,10,25 (/sarcasm) instances because wow developers are clearly too bored to develop different instances for 10 ppl and for 25 ppl... I preordered AoC and i know, im gonna love it, just like my friends (who started playing wow with me 3 years ago) love the beta.
Many old, experienced player will leave WoW for sure.
ps. Funny thing, 1 lvl dagger looks 100x better in AoC than best epic in WoW.
Level up get more skills, it's easy to say the combat is the same when you only have 2 abilities to use.
1-20 is more instance heavy than later on.(or so i've heard)
Give classes more time to mature, almost every mmo has classes be near identical at the beginning.
"the classes are the same, they are melee!"
wow. First time i realized that being melee meant you were a copycat of any other melee class.
Haha 4 posts, and the server was up about 30-45 mins when you wrote this. You can't be serious? It's like reviewing a movie in the first 5 minutes. Reviewing a baseball game in the first inning. Reviewing a cd on the first track.
Also theirs 12 classes to play, and most of them are about the same for the first like 20 levels I heard, and I doubt you've leveled all 12 already, unless your. If you don't like melee try being a priest they never melee, ever.
"1-20 is more instance heavy than later on.(or so i've heard)"
Do not what you mean by that only 1-5 is starter quest and 5-? is tortaga. There is one or two dungeons/instances got couple quests for them. With in tortaga if i enter inn or building there are loadscreens. Will enter underhalls and see how it is.
""the classes are the same, they are melee!""
Wish there is something like scythe wielder (think devrish) and so on to add bit more variety to melee classes.
"Haha 4 posts, and the server was up about 30-45 mins when you wrote this. You can't be serious? It's like reviewing a movie in the first 5 minutes. "
it would nice compare to later full game reviews.
Well besides just graphical changes, the thing that made dervish different was how it played. give time for each melee class to develop and then you won't even care if its using swords
and i say 1-20 cuz it was original designed to be a solo offline version
Hey thanks for the review. Please update this after you play for a few days or a week and let us know if anything has changed.
World of Warcraft combat is plain garbage at level 1-10
At higher levels it starts to shine.
You base your review of a short playing session of less then a few hours?
GTFO
"Well besides just graphical changes, the thing that made dervish different was how it played. give time for each melee class to develop and then you won't even care if its using swords"
From what i seen there is only mechanic which is combos for melee where as other games offer multiple mechanics (rage, energy, combos, seals etc) which makes it easier to differentiate the class.
Like most MMOs In the beginning you can play all trhe classes pretty much the same but they start to differ pretty quickly after that,.
I would get some more time under your bekt before making game and class judgements.
For instance Guardian <> Conquerer.
For many the negatives you mention like lack of races could be the very things they see as positives. Many folks may like a low fantasy setting and welcome it as a nice change from gnomes and elves.
I hear ya but I wouldn't make sweeping statements that people are gonna get bored. Could just be the game isn't for you. I'm not knocking you btw I'm just saying it's more of a personal choice then what one can surmise from a few hours in the game.
I bet if his review was "omg the game is awesome" you'd have no problem believing him
Are you serious ? He made a review after 30 minutes of playing with a level 6 charater. Of course he's trolling.
Actually he posted it 30 minutes after the Early Access opened. Before he edited his main post, he clearly stated he was at level 6
well combos are shared, and in the beginning they are similar, but once you get more combos, that are different presses, different abilities, different things, you'll be doing combos still, but you'll not be the same.
