For the record. 1) For most of the beta time dx10 was enabled in AoC. However, Funcom diabled the ability to use Dx10, because honestly it was lagging people far to bad. (Some bad code some where or something, who knows i don't). They turned it off late in the beta. 2) Windows XP out preforms windows Vista when it comes to games. (In FPS) . DX 10 LOWERS your FPS over dx9. DX10 does look better than dx9, however, to what degree is individually disputed. Personally atm for modern graphic engines dx10 doesn't do anything for me.
3) Funcom will support dx10 , so no massive worries here.

Ok if you have 3 GB or less of ram 64-bit will not help you at all and possibly slow your system down the ever smallest tad. (Really, there is no reason not to use 64 bit).
32 biut allows the max of 3 GB of ram , 64 max of 16 terabytes of ram. however i believe 8 gb is the max supported via common motherboard atm.
So there ya have it unless you want to add ram or whatnot, no need to go to 64bit. (If the upgrade is free it can't hurt you , it will not help ya tho).
Unless you buy more ram , which will not help most games anyway.

Actually 32 bit recognizes 4 GB, but that amount is shared between your video card memory and your RAM.
So if you have a 512 MB video card, the maximum amount of your RAM windows will see is about 3.5 GB.
I'm sure there are other things that take away from that number but I believe it's minor compared to the video card memory.
Well, I think DX10 is partly enabled. I am running with the following: Vista 64-bit Home Premium Intel C2D e8400 @3.6GHz on Abit IP35P 4 x 2GB RAM (8GB) DDR2 Ocz Repear HPC CL4 Club 3D 9800 Gx2 1MB I am running this on DX10. 1680x1050 every setting is maxed and bloom is on. I get 35-80 FPS, probably higher at some point, but really haven't checked it all the time. I get the DX10 lighting effects from tree canopies etc. And someone said that DX10 works in AoC apart from Shader 4.0.

You don't need to buy the whole vista package again, I'm using my broken laptop vista key with Vista 64. just download the torrent or pay 10$ to microsoft for a cd.
Performance decreases with vista, and also with dx10, differences between dx9 and dx10 are minimum, microsoft only wanted to trick some people into buying vista. Maybe in one year from now it's worth to buy... Go windows xp, dont feed even more microsoft, cause they dont give a damn about windows users.
Yeah I fell for the Vista Dx10 trap because I didn't research it enough. Now I am only getting to use 2.7 gb of the 4gb of ram my system has unless I pay a chunk of cash and upgrade to Vista 64-bit. Not saying I don't like the look and interface of Vista because I actually like it better than XP but it is a system hog.

Lazarus - I would go ahead and get Vista 64-Bit. Use all your RAM and have the option (egads that word that the socialists hate so much) to play in DX10 if you want to. I just purchased Vista 64 Premium through NewEgg last week for about $120. It is hardly a large investment. And my personal review - Vista64 for the win Woot!
