Pardon me for asking, but which part of AoC is "innovative and refreshing"?
/J.
try the fighting system, the entertaining and meaningful storyline, mounted combat, seige pvp, actual need for strategy in pvp, their approach to classes which to me makes them all interesting (even the warriors which i never even attemp to try in other mmos), ofcourse the graphics which to me are really appealing, etc.
Hmm meaningful storyline, been done, mounted combat also been done, siege pvp been done and much better, actual need for strategy in pvp, many games do this, many games have interesting classes, and graphics well this is a matter of opinion if you like them as high or not. Now name one thing thats innovative that you said.

So would you not have a meaningfull storyline ?
Mounted Combat in an mmorpg in realtime ? please point me where else including realtime blocking.
Siege PvP - how the hell do you or anyone else here know if its better or worse than anywhere else?

Of course maenigful story i would want , but whats so innovative. Mounted combat sure i guess you re right, Siege pvp i can t say i know for sure but i think you ll know my answer to this if you read how i feel about player caps in open world pvp. Finally strategy in pvp happens in any game with pvp actually.

You make several valid points, and I agree, the thing you refer to as "mechanical assembly" is what I called "low budget feel". It kinda feels like most desktop-linux-distros out there - They look great, but are horridly put together.
Lets hope I didn't start an OS war here
/J.
That's because Linux is free. This game is not free and they will correct the problems that people have because people will stop paying them money. You just made your post null and void.
EDIT: To hell with the OS war.

Heh, I never said my analogy was any good!
Oh yeah. I also hope Funcom corrects most of the problems, though I'm not sure a lot of people appreciate having to pay a monthly fee just to get bugs fixed..

True you didn't.. also that idiot that said you review was biased because you said people shouldn't buy the game needs to reread the post title "slightly unbiased" .. which is not "unbiased."

Run from Beach to Tortage there is ONE loading screen. To get you into the Tortage Zone, and out of the Single player experience (neccessary)
Are you trying to say that there's only one loading screen from the beach to Tortage? Man they must have completely rewritten the game engine during the last 3 days!
/J.
Umm, no. Avery is correct. Besides the zone actually into the Tortage zone, there is one zone load. So either you are intentionally lieing to portray the game in a negative way which completely invalidates the title of the thread and your poor attempt at bashing it OR you actually didn't know which means you lied about playing the game as a beta tester and you just have some grudge against AoC because you work for Sony. Either way it's been like that since beta started and you sir are a liar either way you look at it so why should your review carry any weight?
There will be people that like this game and people that won't. Personally this is the game I've been looking for since I've left EQ and I guarantee I've tried every large MMO title released since and some have held my interest for a while but I knew in each case that it would be fleeting. This one has me as well as many of my former EQ guildmates excited and refreshed for something gritty and a bit different.
I will also point out that this game does do things quite a bit differently than the norm. No, it's not ground breaking but what truly is? Until I can actually plug my computer directly into my brain I don't think you'll see anything groundbreaking. All those people that bitch and moan about groundbreaking, what are you waiting for? What is it that you expect an MMO to do? Conan is the first game directed at mature audiences which truly is sort of a gamble with all the fetuses playing WoW (and let's hope they stay there). It will actually have true mounted combat instead of the faux mounted combat that I've seen in other MMO's that have tried. The reworking of how classes work and not relying on the 'holy trinity' really changes the way combat works. Collision detection and being able to actually block other players/mobs. There are a million little things that combine to make this different than the standard MMO fare that is out there right now and maybe it's not earth shattering but it certainy is refreshing, they just didn't copy the formula that everyone else uses, dumb it down, use cartoons so you can run it on a TRS-80 and market it to the Chinese gold farmers ala you know what.
But these are just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.
If you take it, maybe I'll see you in Hyboria. Hopefully you won't have to zone 10 times to get to me.
Heh some folks get too worked up on the forums about these things. The OP has his opinion and he has that right. Granted some of his statements he tried to make these "opinions" sound like fact when from all I have read they wouldn't be. FPS is one issue he obviously is not fully correct on at this present time. But remember he states he played in beta which at that time it would have been But now at the point of EA it isn't.
As for bugs as he states who wants to pay for them...well none really. Those who do purchase the game won't be paying for that. They understand that a game launching will have bugs. It's always the case. But do those bugs cripple their game play? Or more importantly...does it cripple their enjoyment. What becomes important is how quickly do they fix the bugs, not the fact they exist upon a launch.
In regards to the argument is it innovative. Folks, doesn't matter if what they bring has been brought to genre before. On the current market where does it exist? Please don't name a game with less than 100k subscribers. Games like that are not part of the current market. WoW is, LoTRO is, EQ 2 is, Eve, etc. Do these have what AoC is currently offering (of course EvE won't being a scifi)? No, they don't. WAR will though and I will call that innovative as well since at that point AoC will probably be the only game on the market similar (That we know of).
Everyone has different taste. I am not in AoC EA but I will probably purchase it tomorrow. Probably will purchase Chronicles of Spellborn and WAR too. I like, I'll play it. If I don't, I'll move on. But never will my thoughts be "fact" or truth as the OP stated in one post. They will be my opinion and nothing more. Take posts rather good or bad in the same light. They give you an idea, slight insight but only you can figure if the game is for you or not.
I will also point out that this game does do things quite a bit differently than the norm. No, it's not ground breaking but what truly is?
Well, in every hundred mmorpgs you find one or two pearls. I'm not asking for a completely unique experience, just something that tickles me in the right way. AoC does not. The leap in quality from WoW to AoC is enormous.
Sadly WoW has spoiled us all. The Blizzardian giant has taken the whole mmorpg scene a step forward. Releasing AoC today, against competitors like WoW, is like releasing Wolf3D AFTER Doom (yes, my analogies suck!)
<troll>
About the instance issue. I'm sure you are correct, depending on how you calculate it. Heres how my usual 1->15 look like
1. Zone into the game
2. Zone into the jungle just before tortage
3. Zone into tortage
4. Zone into the thirsty dog
5. Zone into tortage by mistake because of lag
6. Zone back into thirsty dog
7. Repeat #3-4 x amount of times depending on if you're doing the destiny quests or not.
