Character differences?

From what ive heard its sounding like the "talent trees"  (dont know what their called in this game) do not make a huge difference in how your character plays.

What im wondering is if for example two lvl 80 guardians will be pretty much the same, or will you be able to customize your skills/abilities to make it so that not all characters of the same class are the same?

There's a lot of talents and a lot of ways to design 1 class. Talents won't make you godlike or give you insane advantages. They just improve upon which parts of your class you enjoy most. A level80 ranger with no talents can do just as fine as a ranger with 79 talent points.. getting to the same goal.. is just done differently.

So will you see the same build? Sure some folks will go for cookie cutter builds or flavor of the months.. that's unavoidable and human nature. Carve your own path and design your own build.. you can respec... for a price.
