Well it looks as if Star Trek Online is not dead. If you go to www.startrekonline.com/
It now says coming soon, I think we may be seeing a announcement soon from the new developers of which no one knows who they are.

Hmmm....interesting find.
I'm curious are they talking about a game coming soon or a website.
I just hope the new developer listens to US and gives US the game that we want.
Perpetual screwed the pooch on this one so I hope the new developers learned from Perpetuals shortcomings.
I hope mmorpg.com puts Star Trek section back up so we can get news about it.
I too was glad that PE failed. I didnt like the vision they had in mind for Star Trek. Hopefully the next devs to take charge have the vision, talent, and financial backing to give Trek the attention it deserves.
I never noticed that before, thx
I'd love a Star Trek game that was a Sci-Fi game as opposed to a Fantasy Genre MMO with Star Trek Skins. No healing class, no tanking (dear God no tanking) and real unpredictiable elements that require multiple adaptive strategies to overcome.
Imho, any Star Trek MMO that has levels, in the traditional sense, especially ones that affect hit points or whatever, is a failure at Star Trek, even if its a successful game. Any Star Trek MMO in which Captains are the only way to play, or are inherently better at combat, medicine, engineering, science or tactical... well, that's a failure at Trek too.

I could have missed something, but when you go to Cryptic's home page there is a ticker counting down at at something happening in 46 days.. Look at the Pic there under games on the right side under the Champions online link. I could be wrong but looks ALOT like some of the earlier pics of STO and Cryptic is rumored to have picked up the IP. Guess we will see in about 46 days

The Ticker is for STO

Your talking about a skill-based game. Even in skill based games you allocate points where you want them making you proficient at taking damage, healing (medic), dealing damage etc... What little information we had before STO traded hands clearly stated that the Captain is not the end all-be all, the Captain needs a crew on a large vessel. There will always be a system of hp's in some manner, the game needs to calculate whos taking damage, that simple.
I'm anxious to see what Cryptic is going to do with STO. I'm very aprehensive about STO looking like a saturday morning cartoon and child simplistic systems. Cryptic has COH.COv and Champions online coming soon. Not a very solid track record for taking control of such a monumental project. Cryptic doesn't have the "apparent" experience or skills to handle STO but I hope to God I'm wrong.
It'd be more exciting if the Trekkie fiance was a gamer Trekkie fiance who wanted to play games with me.
I think this might get more of a kick when the new Star Trek film hits the movies next year.
If it is a success, then I suspect some serious money and effort will flow; if it is a flop - I think that will bury any fledling MMO that is being developed. So go see the film
I just hope it's actually an mmorpg and not another ship-to-ship combat only game.
Check out this news tidbit from Massively.com. It all but confirms that Cryptic is indeed developing STO. All that is left is to hear the official word in 18 hours.
