Has AOC gotten better?

I played in early may on the file planet open beta for like two days or so, I admittedly didn't a very high level only like 9 or so w/ a couple different classes so my experience with the game wasn't too much, however it wasn't that good either.  From a bug stand point, the game was horrible.  Loads were taking forever, sometimes just getting the client up and running made me want to pull my hair out.  The other things I noticed mainly revolved around caster classes.  Mobs would totally ignore my pets, my spells looked very bland, I was forced to melee a lot.  So my impression of the game was more or less that this is a totally melee oriented 'action' (kinda) game that has way higher system requirements then it seems to need, and it has a ton of bugs too.  I know that after only maybe 10 hours of game play in an early form of the games client I cant make an educated opinion about what the game is or isn't.  So I'm asking if the game has really received the overhaul it needed a few weeks ago.

  • Funcom has released, what no one thought existed ... miracle patches. The game runs amazingly smooth on even older machines. My guild friends says the Early Access launch was the best they have ever experienced. 100.000 people begun to create characters, with almost no problems at all. Stuttering is gone. Crashes are gone. Sure, after 5 hours of none-stop playing some of my guild mates where disconneted. But they could log in straight afterwards.

after five hours of non-stop play hopefully their girlfriends / wives disconnected them. XD.  I know mine would.

The game still runs poorly on both high and low end machines, many aspects of the game are still not even tested/implemented like city sieges and crafting, and there is almost no content past level 20. The game isn't even close to ready.

Not close to true. Conan runs smooth as glass on my computer at maxed out settings with 50-60fps most places. Are there bugs? Yes there are. Are they game breaking? NOT EVEN CLOSE! I have not pvp yet, as my toons re too low lvl, but the game is fun so far with bugs that are trivial at most.

    this is a blatant lie

I was in the OB and also now am in the EA in OB I had many many problems and could not play for longer than 20 min at a time without crashing, now in EA my character is at level 30 and I haven't crashed a single time!  Funcom did indeed work some sort of miracle because the game runs flawlessly now.  NO CRASHES AT ALL  this is indeed the best launched mmo to date so far.  As far as game play goes there are tons of things to do past 20 and from my experience so far the world is continually expanding the higher level you get.

    AOC Rocks!

I'm sorry, but i have to disagree, I'm currently  playing a level 28 Assassin, and to state that there is almost no content past level 20 is a pure lie. Of course, it's possible that at higher levels the number of quests / dungeons, etc diminishes, but at the rate its going for me, I think that is very unlikely. I find post 20 just as good "pre-20", and it was a blast the entire way.

    my 2 cents.

EVERYONE please take this with a grain of salt.

SignusM,with everyone and their grandmother saying how smooth the game runs and the content past level 20 is just as spectacular, seems to me you either A) Didnt play B)you are resigned to hating it no matter what or C)You have a horrible PC and hate your life because you cant afford to buy a new one

I am far from an AoC Fanboi but its people like you that dissuade good players from ever trying something that could change their gaming life..you dont like it thats fine but try and give more detail if youre going to bash something that hasnt even been officially launched other than EA.

The computer I am using is a little less then three months old, with the only drawback being only 2g's of ram everything else far exceeds the minimum requirements for this game.  Yes I do realize that RAM is a big a deal, and that in the up and coming weeks I will have to upgrade to 4. but still I was very unhappy at how bad the game was at that point, the performance seemed rather bad compared to almost anything I had tried on any computer before.

Sounds like great news, my only concerns were the performance problems with the crashes ect.

The only bad thing is that i now am going to be like in a "waiting crazy" till the 23rd EU launch.

I guess Xotli will get my soul on the 23rd.....

I also played OB and was about ready to move on and forget AoC as a bad memory.  But funcom really pulled off a miracle and the release EA game is GREAT. I've not had any problems at all.  Performance is great, no lag or hitching, and the zone load times are usually less then 10 seconds.  I'm pretty damn amazed at the changes.

On the game play issues you mention no that hasn't changed.  Necro pets are not meant to tank like in other games at least not the low level ones I tested.  That might change later...  I think necros get some other skills however at higher lvls that make up for this issue.

    processor: AMD Phenom 9600

Video Card: ATI Radeon 3600 512mb

    Ram: 2gigs corsair

Sound: some cheap sound blaster card

Thats the important ones I guess, I'd post my dxdiag file but I'm at work and not on that machine.  I did build it myself and I know it's not the best machine in the world but it should be able to play most games well.

Well, your hardware is powerful. My guess you just have bad luck at the moment.  Might be driver issues, like people had with Crysis.

I suggest you sniff around on the wide world web and see if there are more people with the same issues like you.

My system only has 2gb of RAM and it runs perfectly smooth, 40-60 FPS(I had 140FPS in a dungeon last night lol) at maxed settings(no bloom, 4x anti-aliasing). Maybe a little slower loading up, and once in a while(every hour or so) it gets choppy for about 1 minute but goes back to normal. I purchased another 2gb just because it's only $40 right now :), Fedex is delivering it tomorrow :).

Its this blatant fanboyism that is tricking people into buying an overhyped poorly made game. Vanguard had similar issues. There are still droves of people who can't access the game they payed for. As for content past level 20, all I've seen and heard is the second you leave the newbie area there is so much less content and polish. Voice overs become very rare, entire sections of cities are blocked off with no population inside of them, and the level of attention to detail is next to none.

As far as flawless launch, the game isn't even launched yet and there have been nothing but problems, this isn't even CLOSE to the best launch. That is BLATANT fanboyism. Lord of the Rings Online, while not being my favorite game had probably the cleanest Alpha, Beta, and launch of any MMO in history, and I was there for each aspect of it. LotRO is followed closely by Dark Age of Camelot.  AoC falls somewhere near SWG and AO for bad launches if it keeps this record up.

The fact that this is a PvP centric game, and they haven't even tested city sieging in closed beta scares me. Limits are on 78vs78, that's trash. You have to grind CTF in order to be allowed to participate in a heavily instanced, regulated, and "fair" siege is just stupid on so many levels. If this was truly a PvP game you would be vulnerable almost all the time and there wouldn't be so much PvP regulation.

I can attest i played beta and was saddend by how slow it was but they have changed alot or just removal of the debugger has made zoning and load times  seconds and the game runs flawless.

i played for 12 hrs saturday and sunday around same amount  and only crashed once .

Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!

I do not usually say this, but

     Your stupid.

City Seiging IS in the game as well is crafting? I'm assuming you played PVP Beta, if that, and are making assumptions off other posts of skeptics. Just give up, especially when you say theres no content past level 20. Blow it out your pipe and stop trying to bring down a game you barely, if at all played.

Why don't you try disputing some of the things I've said with facts instead of just calling me stupid? A closed beta player posted on these boards all the features that had not been tested in beta yet and the open beta fanboys thrashed him saying the devs wanted things to be a surprise, and that they were testing it with internal testers. BS. Show me when the siege system has been tested.

    Complete Bullshit.

This pre-launch was the best ever with the most fluid, smooth bug-free game of any MMO to date.

It runs fantastically well on most modern systems once they update their drivers and clear out their old garbage files.  It was never ment to be played on your toaster oven.  AoC was designed to push the visual experience on the MMO genre to a new level.  It did.

Some old crappy computers wont run it.  So what?  If your computer stinks then it is not the fault of the game.  People have certain agendas with their lame excuse for "AoC is Doomed" threads and posts.
