Have trid it a couple of times but i keep on finding it dull to play. Not saying its bad coz I havent played it enough to give it real chance. There was a couple of cool functions i liked compared to WOW, like no lvl-binding on weaps and equipments and brotherhood. Have heard though that they changed pretty much in it to make it more mainstream to attract more people after its major flop during the release so I guess its more WOW (I kinda like WOW but i wanted something different to play sometimes) now then ever. Hope more people write some opnions here so I perhaps give it a third try...or not?

    1 word Potential.

That sums VG up the game still has masses of it, but a poor launch poor performance in its 1st 6 months no end game apart from 1 raid and a few wholesale class changes has whitled its population to the point of life support.

The game still has the Potential to be great,  since launch performance has been massiveley increased the classes are fun to play and interesting and the world is the largest and most visually stunning ive had the pleasure to be part of.

However VG is in limbo it has a tiny dev team and cant fix and create content quick enough to stop leaking subs but without money it cant hire more dev's.

Hopefully the upcoming free trial and game re-launch will increase sub's and dev team size so they can turn this game into what it could be.

    Vanguard

Totally agree:  1 word - potential.

It is sad and disappointing the small dev team that SOE has for Vanguard; it is not enough to even hold onto the current players because Vanguard has so many "problems."

I would love to return to Vanguard, but the "end-game" is only raiding and is missing a lot of "stuff."

I've only been playing Vanguard for about 3 months so far, so I'm still new and can't comment on the raiding or endgame portions.

I personally love the game.  It has flaws and it still needs alot of work, but the community is awesome, the devs are working their butts off to whip it into shape (performance changes are amazing compared to the 2 days I spent in Telon right after launch), and it's the ONLY game out there right now that feels like a virtual world (in my opinion).

I'd say try it out for yourself, see how you like it, and make your own judgement.  If you need anything or have any questions, feel free to look me up.  I play on the Seradon server under the name Aimen.  I'm always glad to help out when I can.

Though I'm afraid of being tagged as a "viral" individual, I'll post a link to my Blog here.  It's an introduction to the way my wife and I play VG.  I plan to update it with stories of our adventures and explorations.

So atm im downloading the digital Vanguard, reactivated my acc and im expecting to play one of the best mmos made to date..im gonna support them so they fix more buggs..but for what iv heard its alot better then before...

Man the world its absolutely huge..no loadings, players house, player boat, mounts, fly mounts, non instanced dungeons...the biggest potential mmo is here..vanguard...

I really wish people would stop saying this game has a lot of problems, IT DOESN'T. The problem lies with SOE not dedicating themselves to the game more than they have.

Potential is a good word for the game, but has tons to offer anyone right now. This game is very enjoyable in many aspects. And will only get better.

I'm with Khilla here.  Yes the game has potential, but it also has MORE in it right now than most other games on the market.

Potential is good, and I see SOE taking that potential and using it everytime we get an update, but in the meantime, there is a MASSIVE world to explore, three different directions of character development (adventuring, crafting, diplomacy) that all provide a completely different gaming experience, and of course, some of the best dungeons and quest lines ever created.

hell you guys are even making me want to come back something i vowed i would never do after the ranger ranged combat using energy revamp.

Anyone played Ranger lateley and is mellee and ranged a option or do you realy have to go one way or the other.

Heck I might even just start from scratch.

    Hey Mighty,

I haven't played a ranger, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

-I've grouped with quite a few rangers from start up to level 24-25ish.  The one thing I do notice is (as a tank) that they want me to keep my distance.  When they're using ranged attacks, opponents seem to drop like flies.  It appears that they lose some effectiveness when in melee (to be expected I believe), but I'm not sure about how viable melee is for them.

I do know I like to have them around from time to time as the bad guys crumble quite a bit faster!  Not sure if that helps any, but figured I'd give it a shot.

I do not have a high level ranger myself, but I do have a level 50 Sorcerer that half of my gear is APW gear, most other gear is crafted. When i look at our parses when raiding, usually the top dps toons on the list are Rangers, Druids, Sorcerers and Rogues. Not so much in that order, but different mobs have different mitigation and can effect the outcome of this list. So wouldn't dare say that one is better than the other as they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Nipped across the official forums and sounds as though Rangers quite gimp its melee or nothing as its out dps'n Ranged by at least 33%.

But Ranger melee isnt a option in raid as it just generates far too much agro to the point that Rangers are having to wait till 90% of a mob's health is down before diving in, hence they just arent wanted in groups.

Still might come give VG another go got disciple and monk at around 12-18 that I was enjoying, just got a few older MMO's to give a try to first before i make the final decision on what to play until WAR.

In our raids we have multiple rangers and have no problems with them pulling agro. I suspect they are not coordinating with the tanks or our rangers are aware of how to tone down their damage as to avoid this problem. Couldn't tell you honestly, as I do not play a ranger. We are always happy to have rangers around, especially when we are trying to burn adds down or a mobs strategy requires more ranged dps than close combat. Peace!

I envy you for trying it now with so many changes and fixes. I played at launch and it was so bugged up but anyway...

    Advice...

I played a mage and cleric to high levels and a Dread Knight to medium level.

Mage - Loved the spells but you will be hitting, run, hitting, run...you fall over like a feather but your DPS is huge.  Problem is in a group if you go dungeon crawling then you need to wait a bit before unleashing your spells otherwise you have 10 mobs running at you.  Can't kill too much above you in level because you run out of spell pts before they die.  enjoyed this character though.

Cleric - Great for solo'ing as you can kill critters 5-6 levels higher than you as you can buff up so much.  You have an option of going mega healer or even tank.  I was a little warrior cleric with some healing buffs.

Dread Knight - Only level 20 but I liked its solo ability as well.  Had some nice special moves.

Friend played a a ranger to the end and loved it.  Better at high levels.

Vanguard is a good game for variety.  I got involved with crafting and diplomacy and its a great break from combat.  In fact you can go a week without killing anything.  Housing is cool to.  Find a good guild if you can because its pretty lonely otherwise.  FFA servers are a bit of a gankfest when I left but that is 1 year ago.
