Does Windows 32 Bit take advantage of Dual core processors?

MarkedOfKaneMarkedOfKane Member Posts: 43

I have AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 6400+  and I am running on a Windows Vista 32 bit operating system.

Now I have one guy telling me that Vista 32 Bit doesn't take advantage of Dual Cores and doesn't even use it.

And I have another guy saying that it does take full advantage of it and that if i were say running just Windows and decided to start up AoC it would balance it out and put AoC on one core, and run Windows on the other core.

Which one is right? Does Vista 32 bit use both cores?

Vista supports dual-core. It's when you have 2 physical processors that the difference kicks in.

Can it take on two different process at the same time?

Depends on what verion of Vista you have. Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate recognizes multiple physical processors. Vista Home does not.

Here's a pretty good comparison of the differences between Vista versions:

Vista Home Premium will only recognize one physical processor. But if that one physical processor is dual core or quad core, it will use it.
