Hey all.
i posted this in another Thread but didnt get any answer:(
i got Intel Pentium 4 3.20Ghz atm but will get
Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo Dual Core 3.0GHz CPU in a couple of days
3 Gb Ram
GIGABYTE 8800GT 512MB
Windows XP
but the problem is i only got a 400Watts Power Supply...
Will it be able to handle both processor and Video Card?
And what settings will it be able to run?? Med-high?

I would say go 600w or more.
get a new power supply asap, 550watts or more and a decent brand, Antec and Corsair are my personal favourites. I'm using a Antec Quattro 850 right now, its running pretty sweet.
oem and other really cheap PSUs are shit.
test it on min specs and work your way up
Im just hoping my computer wont crash with the power supply i got at the moment. Can buy a new one in a week or so but it wont ruin anything in my computer if i try to run it on my computer as it is at the moment ?
Regards

If it's from a good brand (Corsair, PC power and cooling, ect), 400w might actually be enough to run that (wattage isn't the only stat that matters).
If it's a generic brand, forget about it, you risk hardware damage even plugging it in.
I really recommend a new PSU, a good 600w PSU is more than enough for an e8400 and even 2x 8800gt.
Thanks for the fast replys:)
My english is not the best and i kinda dont know what u mean about the generic brand:(
If you could explain it abit i would be gratefull:D
I dont want to destroy any hardware man.. appreciate the help:)
Regards kali
Generic = Cheap brand. Make sure you get a psu from a good company. Corsair etc..as mentioned above are good.
Actualy. It will prolly work.. As long as you don't have a ton of other devices sucking up Wattage..
That Processor and Videocard don't use up 300w combined.
100w for everything else seems like it would work.. DEFINITLY a tight fit tho. I would prolly upgrade that.
Hi Kali,
I would go with Vista Home Basic 64-bit and put in 4GB RAM instead of 3.
Also e8400 is a great processor, but I would still get a mid-range cooler for it and overclock it to 3.6GHz or if you are more familiar with overclocking you can easily get it to be stable at 4 GHz.
There is no point really getting e8400, if you do not plan to overclock it.

It's most likely your PSU power connector is a 20pin, where as the number of pins on the motherboards now are for ATX 2.0 and later. ATX 2.0 has 24pin power connector to the motherboard. It's not recommended either to use those adaptors from 20 to 24 pin. It's better to get a totally new power supply. 600watt range Antec Trio. Good price ,and you can't go wrong. You need 34amps on the 12v rail. For a dual or triple 12v rail PSU. You need no less than 19amps on each rail. You can check on the side of your PSU. If your PSU is not an ATX 2.0 you'll not have the PCI E power cable on the PSU for the graphics card. either. Trust me put down that extra pit of cash for an more suitable PSU or you may as well not bother doing the upgrade at all.
500W - 550W PSU.
GT consumes around 250W-300W alone.

550W PSU will be enough.
