See the problem with guys like you (and Im assuming you're quite young) is that you cant just say you like one game without trying to put another one down. I have in fact played AoC, didn't like it, didn't buy it but unlike yourself and many of the other children around here I dont feel the need to attack other people's preferences, I simply enjoy the game I am currently playing.
Its kind of sad that instead of just saying "I like AoC and I enjoy playing it", it has to be "I like AoC and game X sucks". At the end of the day it is all subjective anyway, it is purely YOUR opinion. Enjoy your gaming and stop attacking others because they dont happen to like the same thing you do.

First...why would you assume this person is "young"? That is some weird logic son...
I am 45 and will be 46 this year....so, I have been put into this category?...are you my missing Grandpa?
As to the "comparisons"...accept that it will be done..."old timer"...
Right now the market is flush with many MMO's...some good...(WoW, EQ2, AoC)...some not so good (Tabula Rasa, PotBS and LOTRO) and some downright awful...(Vanguard)
And it will be hard not to make comparisons.
The fact remains that the last "stable" and well done MMO was LOTRO...but, it also has so many faults...but you deal with it...I play EQ2, and can find many issues with that game..I played Guild Wars, WoW...etc...I can find fault with all of them...as no one is perfect...
Neither is AoC...but they most certainly got things right...and one is "excitement"...which is missing in LOTRO...which is my opinion...
I just answered the other posters comment about LOTRO...so, try not to get too defensive (which seems to happen with ALL LOTRO players...they seem so protective of LOTRO...like it is their child...lol...)
Just to address the last part of your post, you didnt "answer the other posters comment", you used it to launch into a diatribe about how much better AoC is. There is a difference.
Cant believe this thread is still going lol I was just asking for a bud key originally.
Just thought I would let everyone know that based on everything ive read around here and other forums I picked up AoC. Ive been having a good time with it for the last 5hrs atleast, I think the combat is really different and the graphics are great, first time I decapitated someone was pretty damn cool lol.
IMHO this is one of the best launches I have ever seen im really impressed cause AO was horrible, ive played many launches and I told myself I wouldnt anymore but im pleasantly surprised good job funcom.
there's always the choice to roll on a PVE server, PLENTY of pve content for a fresh title. Also...someone said something about "invisible walls"...if you find one, bug report it, as they were removed long ago. They were originally in place in beta to keep people from wandering into areas of the game that weren't finished yet. It's clear to me that someone around here has never played the game, and is only quoting things that they've heard from other sources long ago. About LOTRO...I played it for a few months myself. Wasn't bad. AoC has the great quests of LOTRO, but taken to another level. And I'm talking about the GOOD quests..not the 100000000000 "Kill 20 boars" quests that bog LoTRO down. Some of the quests later in the game will actually effect you emotionally...give you a reason to hate the mobs you are about to slaughter, or a reason to care about the person you are about to help. This is a huge step forward IMO, an MMO that actually makes you feel like you have a reason for what you are doing.

ah, I dunno...is pushing 40 considered young?
I'm not bashing LOTRO, m8. Look at my post history if you think I am...I liked the game, a lot. However, I must constructively criticise the fact that too many quests involve killing boars, bears, and wolves, ad nauseum.
Somone mentioned LOTRO, as a comparison point. I simply was addressing that. Sorry if you took me the wrong way.
You know, there are a good many boar killing type of quests, but that's because LOTRO has the philosophy of giving you quests out the wazoo. I like it because there are so many that I don't feel forced to do any in particular. So while there might be quests to kill 10 boars, I never feel forced to kill boars. If I'm not feeling an area I can move down the road a bit and have a plethora of quests available there. And often times something that starts off as a simple kill quest will chain into something very interesting.
The thing I really like about quests in LOTRO is that they flow nicely and are very well written, both in terms of the narrative and the simplicity of the directions. I haven't played AOC yet, so I can't compare them. It will be interesting to see how they compare, and I might be end up playing both.
~~~ Currently Playing ~~~ LOTRO- Guardian Wrymstrum & Lore-master Stabler on Nimrodel.
Conan- Zoltar <Angels of Death> Guardian on Stormrage.
I played lotro to 50 (burglar was lvl 50, all other classes to 10 which is something i do with all mmos to decide my class) so I have a basic feeling of it. It is a great game but mainly because it is so polished I mean there are almost no bugs that I can remember, of course I didnt play until well after launch (one of my rules, that I broke today with AoC lol).
I guess you could call me an old timer ive been around the block with mmos but then again I started at around 15 and im almost 30 now. Anyway, for some reason lotro could not hold my interest and I feel that it is because they really followed the basic mmo model and it felt very similar to WoW, which of course we all know copied earlier mmos (eq, daoc etc. etc.). Im not saying lotro did not change anything because they did do some things very well and I think it will be around for along time.
So far though my first impression of AoC is that it really is different, and I guess that is what I have been looking for now granted I have not played very much but the combat is different sort of like d&d online but better imo and the quests so far seem really well done. Who knows how im gonna feel after a month it might suck idk but right now im having fun and thats all that matters to me. I still wish I had my pre-cu swg back with some other inovations of next gen mmos added to boot, mainly because i love star wars lol.
