I called a buddy at Funcom...

But since not everybody collects business cards at game conventions, I'd suggest FilePlanet Subscription.

those who have better credentials are the ones who always gets into beta or even alpha testings. most ot them are members of well known, well seasoned clans.

Firstly most alpha testing is done in house , so it doesn't matter what clan you belong to.  Secondly it helps to be an active member of the community of that particular game first and foremost. The sooner you start putting your name out there and actually being helpful the better.  First people who get into beta are usually people who help with different parts of the game like fan sites, translations etc.

Some people have the false belief that you need the best pc possible. In some cases like AoC I wager it is a must.  In most games, where you don't need the best pc to even run the game they accept all kinds of specs due to the fact they want to see how the game runs on various machines.

Another overlooked part and something that helped me get into alot of betas is answering the "Why do you want to beta test" and "What is your beta and game experience" questions.  I have noticed that the more I compliment the game in my application and overstate my own gaming experience(which is vast to begin with) the better my chances.

Most important part and the hardest, is being ME.  If you're not me you have less of a chance to get into beta.
