It sounds like the game has gotten better in a year, so I'm thinking about trying it out.
I like the description of the necromancer class, and think I would enjoy playing one of those. How is that class?

Great class...you'll enjoy it.
Necromancer is supposed to be one of the best classes to solo with. They are also in big demand in a group becuase of the "meat" buff they can create.
I always liked having a pet (Shaman is also a good class for this) and the necro's have an abomination pet. They can also reanimate dead creatures and use them as pets for a short while.
For these reason I tried ythe class and have a lvl 8 necro alt. I still have not gotten used to it. I am not really into casting. My biggest probelm at this low level is keeping the agro on the pet rather than me. Once the target comes after me, there is not much left to do but run. I think at higer levels there are skills to manage agro better.
Due to the class revamp, necro right now has the lowest dps of all the caster classes, but it does have alot of utilities and excellent survival skill. Either solo or group, necro will do well. But 2 necro or more doesn't work well together due to competition over corpse, unstackable life leech, and soul blight still being bugged.
As someone said earlier, Necros make one of the best solo class...They are also very great in groups as well...But if thats the chosen class you want to play, just dont try to solo ALL the way to level 50 because any class soloing in VG will take forever compared to finding a group. The only times I ever soloed in the game was when I was at level 45+
Yes I would suggest you try this game out! It is probably the best Fantasy MMO out right now!
And if you don't like the Necromancer there are 12 other classes you can choose from!
So there has to be SOMETHING you like >: D
