With the spells that we get as a Necormancer, who needs your pets to tank, I will tank, I rather do it anyways, EQ1 style tap tanking. Pets do okay damage, plus I have 3 pets up at lvl 22, thats 3 non mana dots running non stop, plus some of our skills kill our pets for buffs later.
Necromancers are fun, think of Diablo 2.... Tons of pets, but still tanked.
Makes me laugh that for months that AoC has been slagged off for being a clone of various games then as soon as Funcom tries something different in their character classes they then get slagged off for not cloning features.
Think of each necro pet being a way to offer a utility/dot for you without having to cast it. 15 seconds of having a mob tank for you? pretty great, my assassin has to fight in melee with the same armor as you.
You get some mage pets, and a healer pet.
My only issue with necro pets is that they are kinda stupid when a mobs moving =P
Pets tank just fine. Use all the abilities at your disposal and think about it abit and you will see. That, and at least for me, I am working the pet tree. I have had a good few times already 9 pets in the teens with my 2 little PoS starter pets, and a mix of ice and skull temp pets. Things get torn up.
Necromancer i think honestly gives the weakest outlook in the first 15 levels of play. Around 15 and after, especially in the 20's, you notice boosts.
Necromancer in AoC just isnt the kind of class that is going to be popular due to the sheer learning curve. Class is pretty good honestly, and I am comparing it to my guardian. It is harder, and not as outright potent, but the tricks available make the class pretty solid.
k just a heads up for those bitching the pets suck dont forget you can hide with themn summoned
i use mine to tank mobs all the time
1. summon your pets
2. buff them (runed skin)
3. hide
4 use pet "attack" command
5. stay back or wait to pop out till enemy is engaged
the only thing i can say atm is i wish frenzy lasted longer but i assume since the spell is rank 1 it will increase in duration etc as the levels climb
right now i absolutely love this thing im lvl 15 now and its a beast in solo and pvp my group loves the little bloddy guys
