Thank God I Didn't Listen To MMORPG Doomsayers...

After reading some of the doomsayer posts on how this game sucks, I decided, "You know what?  I'm not going to listen to these guys."  So I went out, bought the game, installed it on my machine, which is a GAMING machine), since most of the whinners who complain about performance have 5 year old machines or crap components. (Basically, if your going to cry and complain about how computer games should cater people with old machines, you shouldn't be a PC Gamer and should go buy an Xbox or something).  Or stick with Knights Online, Magabushi,  however you say it, or WoW....games that match up to your older machines.  So enough of my rant, I got the game, I have it on High settings, get around 60+ fps, very good game, has alot of potential down the road.  Well, time to head back i nto Hyboria...later.

    I agree.

Having a blast so far. Game is simply gorgeous and with updating my Nvidia 8800 gtx drivers last night, I'm now getting 80-105 FPS at 1024x768 resolution. I don't game at higher resolutions because the screen becomes too small for my older eyes, LOL!

So far the combat is great fun but does take a bit of learning LOL. Game is fun period. I realize NO product will ever be fun to everyone, but this game is gonna be special.

I agree with you. People need to take complaints with a grain of salt, people will, as is true throughout the real world, talk about the bad things. People ASSUME that the game will be awesome etc etc, so when a mistake, or something that they do not like appears they will of course complain. Don't get me wrong, many of the complaints are completely justified (boss loot drops), but a similar amount of the complaints are subjective and down to personal opinion (zoning/instancing).

It is good to have these "doomsayers" on the forums as it allows detailed discussion of the game and it's flaws, and allows Funcom to see their errors and improve on them.

We just need to understand to take the complaints with a pinch of salt.

Couldn't agree more.  I don't have the best machine (7800GT, 1GB RAM) and the beginning of open beta was pretty terrible.  8-10 minute loading screens, turn-freeze-turn-freeze-turn-freeze.  After the performance patch, the game is actually very playable (albeit on fairly low settings).  I haven't had any problems so far.  Spell effects hit me a little bit and the initial loading screen is about 2 minutes, but otherwise it's responsive and zippy.  If I got off my butt and actually stuck another GB of RAM in this thing, I'm guessing it would be nice and smooth.

Seems to me like you had already made up your mind w/e people said. Most performance related issues were genuine from people with computers above min reqs. Anyway have fun in hyboria

Performance really was pretty terrible during the open beta.

I'm still amazed at how well it performs now, after playing around in the PvP event and OB.

ER, OP, you didn't really hit on any startling revelation. Of course the best way to find out if a particular game is for you is to give it a trial. Its really the only way you'll ever be able to tell.

Glad you have the hardware to run the game well, (so do I) but no reason to slam folks for not being able to keep up. Its true, the game is not for them, and I assure you, if it turns out to be fun, they'll get around to upgrading just to play it.

WOW unfortunately spoiled most new gamers, but as most folks who've played MMO's for any length of time we all recall upgrading our hardware to play the latest games (I did it for EQ, DAOC and L2 and even WOW)

So the hitatus is over, time to get our boxes up to snuff and ready to play.

See  you all out on the battlefield.

A few weeks ago the haters were adamant on how AoC would pull a AO or Vanguard release. How they were hiding behind NDA to sell the bug ridden game to the unsuspected masses. I wonder where they are now.

The game has still a long way towards maturity, but so far it has been a pleasant surprise, especially after all the negativity of the forums.

Good for you!  It's always important to read these posts with an objective mind.  I hope you have a lot of fun with AoC.  I picked up a copy yesterday but won't activate it till next week as I have family in town.   Am sure looking forward to giving it a try.  If I don't like it I figure it's not much more to pay than a date to a movie - heck even less if you go to concessions.

I'm really looking forward to playing it. However, I think i'll wait a lil bit first and let them iron out what bugs they MAY have. I'm happy that those who are playing now enjoy it, wasn't too sure what to think about it because I didnt get the chance to beta test.

yes :p we pc gamers have had to stick with mmorpg with crappy graphics for years so the crappy pc gamers don wine...LET US HAVE THIS...ER DESERVE IT

I think the game runs fine. I have a higher end system, so I am able to run it on max settings. People really should use common sense before buying a graphically intensive game. Before someone accuses me of being insensitive to the crowd with worse PC's, I have a brother and his father who'd I like to play with, but can't, since they have older machines. They plan to upgrade their PC's soon and still won't be good enough for AoC they don't think.

AoC will be on the 360, so I agree with the OP in that players who have crap PC's, but have a 360 to just wait for it to release for te 360.
