Not sure about the higher levels as i am only in the 20's but I havent seen any major loots yet. I do find it odd that the Boss's in the game dont even drop anything worth keeping if they drop anything at all. Granted these are open area Boss's but damn, would be nice to get something sometime...lol.
Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there, 80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters. Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior, and he will bring the others home. -Heraclitus 500BC
I personally never really care about items until the end game, but to answer your question yes regular and boss mobs can drop magical weapons (e.g. uncommon, rare, etc). Crafting doesn't start until level 40, so you won't start using player made weapons or armor until that point. The way I understand it is that dropped items will be on average superior to crafted weapons. However, crafter weapons can have sockets (dropped weapons cannot), thus giving crafted weapons a niche of their own. For example, you could tailor a crafted armor to be really strong in a specific magical resistance.
Yes, it's like an Asian grinder at first with limited loot. Later, towards the end it becomes more like WoW with all the loot and crafting supplies dropping in raids.

The Boss mobs are USUALLY for quests. And as such they drop nothing but quest items. Try to be polite and not kill a boss (mini-bosses are fine) because someone else will probably need it somewhere along the way.
Loot does seem limited, however I have gotten some very nice items(Got a rare item from a boss last night that gives a lot of bonuses like str, dex, damage bonuses).

dont think this guy has played yet--- you can get some ggod drops off random mobs- but in the early levels the loot isnt to hot- the higher you get the better stuff you get
at 40+ im getting good blue items from random trash mobs--- and in single group dungeons we were getting 2-4 good drops per run--- and they came from bosses
so dont listen to this guy--he says later towars the end its like wow with all loot from raids----- How does he know ??? no one is raiding end game yet
and crafting supplies are got from harvesting and some other are dropped from random mobs- like leather from skinning
get your info str8 before you come here and mislead people---im sure there is some good raid loot but thats not the only place to get good stuff- same goes for crafting
I am currently level 33 and loot is very boring. I haven't picked up anything I can use since early levels. It is all just vendor junk plus sometimes a crafting resource.
Can you find magical items randomly? or is it crafting/questing only?
im lvl 44 and I have yet found anything decent from bosses, mini-bosses, and in epic dungeon crawls.
The best drop I ever got was way back in lvl 20 when I killed Strom to get off that cursed island. I did find a helmet (stats sucked) but i liked the design.
There is no good loot in AoC. Its all vendor trash.
And if you did find loot with stats you dont know what the hell it means because AoC doesn't have any form of a Character Sheet to show your stats to base it from.

I've found a few ok-ish items on drops; nothing spectacular. Quest rewards, for my class [Bear Shaman], are lame, but warrior types will probably be happy. Crafted items... well I would love to buy a nice crafted item, but the marketplace is broken due to a "minor technical problem".
So my equipment pretty much sucks. In all fairness though, I'm holding my own with what I have. I can fight three mobs (my level) at the same time and at the end of the fight, I might be near full health.

That makes it raiding centric. I hate raiding.

that minor technical problem was because a guild found a why to dupe gold on the trader. Sad, but true

At last, a site that states where some items are being dropped
http://aoc.yg.com/
Had one look on PvP gear today and started PvPing right after that. PvP items look very good.
You just have to do dungeons for "good" loot. Sanctum of Burning Souls drops an early armor set lvl 37-41 i think. Raid gear is pretty badass.
