running everything lowest it can go- below low settings!

also xps with 256mb vid card and 3.2 ghz pentium 4 and 1gb ram
cant even see the game on this system

I figure I will go ahead and give my best shot at this.

On the laptop, I think you will need a faster processor.  Although the RAM is sufficient, the 2.16 ghz will hamper the game's potential.  That, to be truthful, wasn't even a fast processor years back.  However, it is dual core and I know little about that technology (I run a Pentium 4 and Pentium M)

That XPS, assuming it is the tower, is low on RAM.  Sure, It will likely run, but good luck running other things.  Conan is resource hog, and on average takes about 65% of my CPU at any given time.  I upgraded the RAM several months back simply to support vista better, and haven't looked back.

In reference to your final post, I say this: New games require up to date hardware.  Its a bit of a double edged sword.  If the game had low graphics or low content and low requirments, people would complain.  If the game had high graphics and high content and high requirments, people will complain.  We want to have the best looking game at almost no cost.  Unfortunately, that really isn't possible.  Don't believe me?  Play Bioshock on highest settings.  That requires some power, but surely pays off.

    Thats my 2 cents!

pisses me off that ya buy the best laptop availible a yr ago and the game runs like shit.  maybe in a yr these requirements will be normal systems but its crazy
they wont get nearly the amount of wow subscribers with this system requirements liek this
Is your laptop using the GeForce Go 7400? in any case, that is not, sadly, a great card for high end games

    compare

And I think you defeated yourself "my system is a laptop- i know not for gaming but still"

The game is quite scaleable and still looks good imho on the lowest settings. That being said, as Enigma says, if you're a serious gamer then you will need to update your gaming rig periodically. Them the breaks I'm afraid.

You could try obtaining a buddy key from your friend (they should be usable soon apparently) and I would at least recommend more ram - if not for AoC then anything else you might play.  See how it runs. If it runs well and you're satisfied with the low settings, and like the game generally then I'd recommend it to you!

I have watched WoW gameplay on the same computer and it is definitely awe inspiring (to me at least).    Blizzard has done a wonderful job.
As time goes on, I think we just going to have to accept that the newer games will require newer hardware.

man after 3 years of wow I have no idea what you find awe inspiring about the graphicsin WoW. The only thing I can think of thats awe inspiring about WoW is how well it runs on crappy computers.

one thing I've noticed is that i have not read of one person with an 8800 series card or greater complain about their FPS.

I don't feel I'm alone in my praise for WoW's graphics.   Despite a low polygon count (a big reason wow runs so well) WoW still impresses me with its artwork, especially the new zones in the burning crusade.

blizzard used there graphics engine well and to its full potential

No disputing WoW's artstyle is top-notch and it suits the game perfectly. However, I'd say the artstyle of AoC perfectly suits both the license and the nature of the game equally as well. It just comes down to what you prefer. WoW's graphical style would never suit Conan. :)

  • plateau01plateau01 Member Posts: 86

Well I've heard people say that it's more satuated than what they'd expect for Conan. I suspect people are thinking of the films when they think of the palette. Certainly it is vivid but never tasteless, and personally I find it looks like a painting, which kind of adds to the faux-historicity of the game - as it lost in time. I'm quite ok with the visuals. They world feels alive in a way WoW will never for me.- but each to their own

I'd like to see better gear drops earlier on (better visuals there), and more player heads, with the option to make fat characers (the character creation would be incredible then - near perfect in my books). Both shouldn't be too hard ot fix but hardly critical atm.

Anyone plays with? And is enjoying the game?

    AMD 3200+ (2Ghz)

    2 GB

    Asus 7600GS 256MB

You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.

I really recommend at least getting 512 mb 8800 series video card. Your ram is probably alright but ram is really cheap to upgrade if need be.
