Yeah most of you guys know me by now . I've got some money but I've given up on just trying to upgrade my current 3 year old comp now. I'm gonna get a new one. I'm going to get one that can run AoC at least at medium settings or so with decent framerates, so I can use it as a standard and hopefully keep the new comp for at least 2-3 years.

I think I can put another gig (probably 2) of RAM on it and also upgrade the video card to probably an 8800 GT. What do you guys think? I just want some backup opinions so I don't waste my money
Also I'm not much of a tech dude so how important is CPU speed? Here's another one, nearly identical, except it has 5200+ CPU speed instead of 5000+. It sounds important so maybe I'll get this one...

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. Hello,
Don't buy a pc as a whole, you will regret it.
If I were you, I'd just go with the 8800 gts,
and atleast 3-4 gigs of ram.
Hi, I realize that I don't have a lot of posts here but, to answer your question....my oppinion on that system is..
way underpowered ..save your money to get what system requirements are met unless you wanna play on low graphic settings.
What I mean is
minimum vid card Nvidia 8600 (8800 Ideal)
minimum cpu 3.0ghz (or dual/quad core 2.6 ghz+)
minimum MB that supports the above.
2 GB 800hz ram ok for win xp
IBUYPOWER is a good brand..got mine from them at newegg
420watt PS is too low..i'd get a 600watt + for upgrade potential
It is ok to buy a pre-made if you know what to look for but dont buy anything with a card like a 8400,The basic things you need atm is at least a duo core maybe a 2.66 at least 2 gb ram(dependant on the os)with vista get 4gb,get yourself a 8800gt card at least(these dont cost that much and are great gamming cards)and make sure you do some research on the psu(power supply unit)as a bad 1 will give you so many problems you wont believe.
End off the day m8 a pre-made pc is a good if you cant build 1 but still make sure you do your homework.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi,
my 2 cts, if you want to hear them. I've been building new rigs for the last few weeks (months... actually ) on ibuypower and compusa. Obviously reading up on the components, as well.
I'm afraid if you want to get a com that can run current games adequately, you will probably have to spend a little more than $600.
As stated above, there are a few things to consider:
- CPU : the intel 8400 c2d is good value for money and a good cpu (the 8300 and 8200 are a little cheaper and ok as well) 200$
- Gfx : really the 8800GT is the way to go. (if you buy a decent MB, it makes for a great SLI solution as well) 180$
-Power: 600+ If you get a decent brand, can be a big plus reliability wise. from 50$
- 2GB Ram is ok. 4 is better (if you don't have a 64 bit system you will only be able to utilize ca. 3GB) 4GB at about 70$
- Motherboard: If you are considering upgrading to SLI at some point, get a board with 2x16 PCIe slots. Those start at around 150$ from a good brand like ASUS. Other boards can be obtained at under 100$
So those components will already set you back 600$. If you can scavange other components from your old comp, you may be able to get a decent machine for under 700$.
Hope this helps.
1. AMD processors have been having some issues with AoC (lag spikes, etc) but im sure that'll be worked out soon)
2. I would invest another 60 bucks to get 4 gigs of RAM
3. Card is decent enough for the game
4. See how much more it would cost to slap a 1000 watt power supply in there rather than the 420 watt. Dont wanna bottleneck your hardware when the goin gets going.
5. Be sure this Vista as SP1 (im sure it may but be sure)
Other than that Ibuypower is a reputable company. Good PC

Thanks everyone, I know what I need now.
