Liking the crafting system myself. Seems balanced with only having one gathering skill. you will always need gathering items from other players.
I can feel your anger. This game is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike this game down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards towards the Dark Side will be complete.
Since the game is not gear based it would be pointless to make weapons and armor nobody needs because they probably already have better armor from RvR or whatever you craft isnt going to be much better then what anyone has. Weapons and armor would require some type of gathering I think as well and Mythic doesnt want people going around gathering ores for pointless weapons and armor instead of fighting.
No such thing as luck, just believing in it is what makes it real to you and really...thats all you need.

I concur, would rather not see a craft for those added! I'd rather see a cool wep or piece of gear on a boss and be like I want that...so you gotta kill him for it instead of spending pointless time harvesting nodes of ore!
Lets see, you can have one gathering skill and one crafting skill max... where did I see this.. oh yes WOW, only they allow you to have two gathering or two crafting, so they were even ahead of WAR 4 years ago! Limiting the player to one of each is good for the game economy because it forces the player to trade for the resources that cannot be harvested. Regardless, the idea of crafting and gathering was in no way created by WoW. Then.. i can extract magic from items and get magical essence! My god this is brillilant! Yes like in WOW. But, really, what can be better than extracting magic from the items. I'm sure I can't think of a better way. Oh yes I can, if I spend a couple of days thinking about it, but hey, if WOW has it and it works, why should I??? What makes you think Blizzard thought up the idea of magic items being dechanted into essences and shards? But wait.. they don't have recepies, this is so great, you will get everything from the trainers. So it's a simplification of WOW system. This is so INNOVATIVE. These guys really earn they money, they are awsome thinkers! You seem to have misunderstood, you get things such asbasic seeds and tools from the trainers (most likely not a trainer but a merchant). More important ingredients are obtained through killing, looting, and scavenging. (Edit: aka. Gathering) Now it's very clear WAR = WOW2

Well I didn't say the idea of crafting and gathering was created by WOW. I also didn't say Blizzard thought up the idea of disenchanting, I said it is in WOW. They are doing something almost exactly as WOW. I knew they wanted to do the nex WOW but I thought they'd be more talented to create something innovative. So far we have BG with steroids and a simplified WOW crafting system. Great.
ROFL! ...... ROFL Your idiocy astounds me most of the time but today you cracked me up...Who the mother flip cares what game had disenchant the hell first. It makes sense to have it in order to make magical items ... Your skimming along the surface grabbing lil bits and peices and goinG OMG WOW when in actuality its nothing the hell like WoW. You can't make an MMO without seeing something reminiscent of another game..when I look at AoC I see tons of Shadowbane & WoW elements..when I see WoW i see tons of EQ1 elements. When i look at WAR I see elements all across the board from EQ1, to DAoC, to yes even WoW. Thats how games work..thats how they've always worked. There is no such thing as a game that has every single element 100 percent unique and new...not since the days of Pong have we seen that.
The last line of your post alone in red proves how much of a Troll or just a spitiful lil trouble maker you are I haven't decided yet. WoW crafting is all about patterns if you have a pattern you can make an item just fill int he slots...you can't do that in WAR..in war you have no idea what your going to get period. You can't get anymore simple than WoW...WoW's crafting is the epitome of simple crafting its why most hard core crafters went to EQ2 in the beginning. Theidea that WAR is even a BG on steroisd is even funnier...please...just stop posting Altair...your wasting your time and ours.

I am rather confused about this Not Gear Based comment. Lets over analys this for just a moment, I need help understanding this comment, as it seems to be false.
#1. I have heard DEV's comment on players being "RVR Equiped and PVE Equiped" <-- is this not gear?
#2. Trinkets and such are items you may be awarded, and talismans are customisable with stats! Aren't these "GEAR"??
#3. Has anyone actually played an MMO that wasn't gear based? You certainly don't see a naked dude owning a fully equiped dude in any game!
When I see someone say war is not gear based, I think I must be miss-understanding the meaning of the word "GEAR". I understood "GEAR" as anything you were not born with. AKA your pants, glasses, shirt, and knecklass would all be gear.
So I leave this to be discussed.......Allot....because I will bet I will never see a Naked character in a battle. ;-)
They mean its not 100 percent Gear Based....like someone in uber rific gear doesn't just automatically own everyone..he has a 'slight' advantage but if he's a poor player someone in slightly more standard gear could probably take him. The game is based around group mechanics..there won't be any 100 percent uber pwns all classes unless its heavily unbalanced.
See games that are 'gear based' are usually 100 percent about gear at all times...they've already stated numerous times that Gear is not the overwhelming factor to a win...skill, how you set up your tactical & morale abilites, and of course strategic thought will have an over whelming factor to a win in a battle for their side.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
So then what you're agreeing to is WAR is not gear based yet and you expect to be eventually! Its a possiblility...sure! I really hope not though....raiding for sets of gear is not fun!
Gear based as Elven and I are talking about are like WoW where all you do is raid for sets of gear to basically be harder to kill and slaughter other players cause u have the best gear! Also to look better cause the sets do look pretty neat. Yes WAR is going to have gear and prolly a few sets but you don't go raiding just for gear to look or be better than another player based on stats! As Elven mentioned a moment ago its about how you set your char up!
Also in WAR you don't have to worry about getting a set of gear that will look like everyone else who gets it! not only is there a primary and secondary color dying system, but there are also all those trophies you can paste on your char visually to make it look even more different! Many players eventually may have the same set of gear after many months of city siege PQs, but with the 2 layer dying and trophies nobody will look the same!
well I admit, I am incredibly excited for the game, and I would say Not Gear Based is simply a wording snaffu. (I would say lightly gear based, to say NOT gear based is implying gear will have no effect) But I can agree to dissagree on choice of words when we all understand that gear will play a small part in the end result.
I to had a WOW character (Hunter/Orc) in full Giant Stalker, Beast Stalker, and Dragon Stalker sets of armor, with a full suit of Epic weapons, trinkets from various raiding instances. (I will never raid for another suit of armor again / total waste of time)
I really like the coloring system for armor being mentioned! I hate looking like everyone else!
Any way they choose, I think the game has such a large variety of Class / Race I will be happily entertained for several hours!
Originally posted by altairzq Guys... crafting is almost exactly like WOW. I know I will be flamed because of this, but it's the naked truth. Big disappointment and a sad surprise... couldn't they make something better? God...
You must have an attention deficit disorder. WoW's system is based on recipes and grinding out end products to level up.
This system as stated by MJ is not recipe base but instead invention/experimentation based. You have to mix and match ingredients to create new items. It also seems that you are only given starter/base recipes to work with and from there you have to create/invent your own higher level crafted items by the process of experimentation with different materials. Reminds me a lot of the system used in the RPG game the Witcher.
Also Mark said that you won't be making tons of useless crap just to level. Unlike WoW's crafting system ( and other MMO crafting systems )in which everything except a few high level crafted gear items and potions/enchants are all but useless vendor trash. It seems like Mark wants every item made by a crafter to be valuable to someone in the game in some way.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
I love the looks of this crafting system. For thoes like me that try to complete a toon regardless of how useless it is this is great. I hated in WoW (again I wanted to max everything) spending hours gathering mats to make 1 useless item that may, or may not raise my skill. Anyone who managed to get there crafting to 375 before leaving the game knows what I mean. This system looks like it could be enjoyable. Especcialy since even if a "thotbott" type site comes up I dont have to, nor will I look at it. Part of the fun in this system is going to be figureing out for yourself what works and what doesnt!

so in essence, the game is indeed "GEAR BASED" however what is being said is simply we aren't going to release the UBER gear, yet......
Think back to the Old School EQ Days, Gear was roughly 30% for years, but once POP hit, the game went to 80% and beyond!
I can accept that, as long as they stick to there guns on not gear based, POP ruined EQ because it replaced skill with GEAR in the end ;-(

Good to see Marc Jacobs taking time out of designing sunglasses to tell us about WAR.
I like the cultivating skill. Not so big on potions or talismans...I'm sure there will be something more to my liking come launch.
