the game is full of bugs, but apart, AOC is awesome.
you dont like it?? well...
Tell me what's awesome. Is it useless guild cities? Is it extremely repetitive quests? Is it lack of a PVP system? Is it the zoning/instances created for xbox360? Is it the lack of content? Is it the amazing dx10 graphics? Is it the single player/guild wars style story line? Is it the customer support? Is it the class unbalances? Or how about this, is it the over simplified gameplay mechanics aimed to look cool for young teens*?
*this game is clearly aimed for the fun xbox360 crowd. If I wanted to see boobs, I'd click to my website.
So, when you want to see boobs you click in your website? ...hmm, you can see it in real life too, you know ...
Ok Skamper the lonely internet boob collector... lets talk about AoC
Yes, the story mode similar to Guild Wars is very very good.... you know, Guild Wars is a very successful game, between critic and players...
The art and music of Age of Conan is amazing and it is exacly what every Hyboria fan would expect.
The game play and classes are very well done, a mix between GuildWars and Everquest2 for me... unbalance is present in every mmo
Grouping in AoC is dynamic and very exciting
The lore
The best aspect is, the RPG part in Conan is very strong, if you dont like it, well, it is just your opinion, I dont like a lot of games, but Im not silly enough to think if I dont like the game is bad.
Nice try at attempting to insult me over the internet. Doesn't really work.
Guild wars is a free to play game where you purchase the box/account. There's the difference.
Let's see if the art and music is good, then maybe Funcom should've made a movie. My gosh!
Ya the class are well done? My level 40 guardian is basically invincible to all melee attacks? That's well done? Mage archetypes do practically no damage, whereas the tempest of set does massive?
Grouping is dynamic how? Every single group I've been in everyone just rushes in and unload all their spells, and a random person dies.
Lore is present in practically every single MMORPG. I'm assuming what you mean is how involved do you feel with the world around you? Okay so here's the story I'm feeling so far (im level 40). You're a slave, you crash on tortage. You do some quests on tortage and level up. Strom is this mean guy doing shit to the tortagians whatever. You level up even more and kill strom. Then what? Who's the bad guy after that? What the fuck are you even doing? Why are you doing it. If you're going to make the story for the players you need to at least make them feel involved, and have an overarching goal for them, while achieving minor goals.
Really? I have a level 41 guardian, he in not invincible in the slightest, go to Tarantia Noble district or to the Fields of the Dead. Or go to the Sanctum of burning Souls....I promise, you'll feel the pain. More than 2 mobs and I get nervous.
And for the story past Tarantia, well, just watch the damned cutscene intro, it breaks it down fairly easy for you.
What do you do now you say! easy play the game for what it is...a roleplay game not a follow this line game. Its all how you decide to play the game friend. i am a Ranger and i play the game as one. i have lost most of my memory in the shipwreck and feel lost in this strange world. i dont understand how i got here and how to get back but all i do know is that this is a dangerous world and i need to kill to survive, i need to raise money to feed and clothe myself. hopefully i will meet friends long my path and maybe one day find a purpose on this god forsaken world. Imagination is the key to playing these games. lets face it its that bad it kept you playing for 40+ levels
Actually my friends and guild are what kept me going for as long as I have, but they're starting to see these issues, too and are going back to games they were playing before age of conan.
I hate to do this to you, but, 2.5 x 10 = 25, not 250
It would take around 100 days at 2.5 hours a day, if it indeed does average to 250 hours to hit 80. I'm at 41 with around 32 hours played.
Got me on that true. I should know better then to post half asleep
Anyway if the 250 hour to lvl 80 is true which it seems to be by the number of lvl 80"s already in the game wouldn't that make AoC more of a casual game then WoW? I seem to remember wow taking somewhat more then 250 hours to reach lvl 60.
the game is full of bugs, but apart, AOC is awesome.

You said like a lot of people just play AoC to see boobs... this is silly.... but the way you hunt for boobs in the internet also sound a bit silly, right? ... just wanted to show you, well, there is not just one absolute reality.
Art and Music are very important in games too, check Gears of War, No one lives forever 2, The Witcher, Bioshock, Syberia...well, you got my point.
Guild wars is free, but you know AoC is not exacly like Guild Wars, just the solo storyline and the minigames( 20% of the game )
YOU had bad experiences in groups, well, I always play with my wife, some real life friends and one or too random unknown player... and Im having as much fun ( even more sometimes ) I had in Everquest 2.
The first thing I look in classes is the lore, what you said about your guardian is a matter of balance, balance is hard to get in every mmo... what matters to me is the concept of classes.
The main storyline doesnt end with Strom.. and it seems you just didnt get the main point of tortage story.. personaly I always enjoyed the Conan Universe, from the world to the characters, dont you think maybe Low Fantasy is just not for you?
Yes all mmo has a lore, and lore isnt just the main story or the story of some quests... it happens AoC has a very good lore...
Dont you think, maybe the game is not for you as WoW is not for me?
If something is not for you, it doesnt mean it is bad;)

I feel I've been doing a lot.
Okay that's you're guardian, and I'm in fields of the dead. I take almost no damage, and tank multiple mobs.
The cutsense is beyond vague. It basically says we're at war with a bunch of people. Okay ya where's the war? Where's the buildings to destroy? You mean killing those 7 wolves is part of the war? How about picking some flowers?
i only ask as all the problems you have mentioned seem to be the same old new game gripes of any mmo i have ever played. though to be honest most release's i have ever played have been much worse
i understand this game is not for you friend but to call it made for xbox is a little strange to be honest, i am 34 years old and can see that each console/pc etc has its place. hell i have to admit to having a great time on the Halo series! so if this game has xbox 360 in mind then great! whats wrong with that.
Just so you know. pop onto Everquest and speak to my character Tuor hes a 70 Ranger time equipped with 8 years of vet rewards. though at the moment i am playing my new Ranger on FV server who reached 57 so far. So i'm hardly an mmo newbie
the game is full of bugs, but apart, AOC is awesome.

I'm going to call BS on taking almost no damage. You can almost count on multiple pulls in the fields of the dead and you mean to tell me that 3-4 lvl 39-42 ish mobs don't hurt you at all at level 40? How about the bosses, you solo them too with no damage? The hit HARD!
The war, I'm sure will come later. I haven't played an MMO yet that starts you out fighting the big war.
Killing the wolves, they are disturbing the camp of your kinsmen. Getting the plants? Someone is injured and needs them for recovery. It all has a purpose if you read the quest text.
I was in the closed beta for this game and I could see even then that this would be a very casual game for me. It is fun to log into for an hour or so and do a couple quests, gather a few resources for later on and kill a few mobs. I'm not a pvp'er. I much prefer pve games and have my characters on pve servers. The lore is nice, the graphics are ok and the combat is fun for a while. All in all I'm happy with my purchase but it will not take me away from other games I play. I'll keep the account active for that little bit of diversion when I desire it.
I will say there are things about it don't like. I didn't like the fact the bank/marketplace were broken on launch. I don't like that I have to wait till 20 to gather tier one resources and 40 for tier two. I don't like the fact that crafting doesn't even start till level 40. And there are things I don't mind such as the instancing.
I really enjoyed the tutorial zone and the opening storyline but after leaving it I felt a bit lost for a bit but I'm sure that will pass.
Eye candy can't save a game, not even the Conan IP has enough pretty stuff to overcome the same old boring grind. Thank God, there's no shortage of mmo's.
You said like a lot of people just play AoC to see boobs... this is silly.... but the way you hunt for boobs in the internet also sound a bit silly, right? ... just wanted to show you, well, there is not just one absolute reality.

My response:
Yes art and music are important in games, but those games you just listed are all non-mmorpgs.
Guild Wars has just as many features as age of conan, if not more. While there is no crafting or sieges, the game as an extensive pvp system where you can unlock many different things, as well as make characters max level instantly for pvp only.
Not every player has the fortune to play with their friends/guild mates 100% of the time. PUGs are probably the most common groups found in age of conan. There's absolutely no strategy involved at all. All heals are AOE, non targetable, heal over time spells. You don't even have to pretend like your healing. Just click one button and go. Every single class just mad rushes in and fights.
The point of tortage was to bring players into age of conan. The entire place was pretty nice with voice acting, quests that made some sense, and a storyline that kept you somewhat involved with what was going on. After that you're pretty much thrown in a world to do some grocery store check off lists.
You're right this game is not for me, and I'm saying exactly why it's not amazing.

Would you like me to post how you feel about it? That makes plenty of sense. It's really sad to see mmorpg players now accepting unfinished games. I'm still waiting for reasons as to why this game is amazing. So far I've heard art and music, and possibly lore.

Art and Music are very important in games too, check Gears of War, No one lives forever 2, The Witcher, Bioshock, Syberia...well, you got my point. Guild wars is free, but you know AoC is not exacly like Guild Wars, just the solo storyline and the minigames( 20% of the game ) YOU had bad experiences in groups, well, I always play with my wife, some real life friends and one or too random unknown player... and Im having as much fun ( even more sometimes ) I had in Everquest 2.
My response: Yes art and music are important in games, but those games you just listed are all non-mmorpgs.
Excelent, now we have established how 'YOU' feel about the game, is there anything we can help you with here on the Age of Conan Forums that is related to playing the game?
Would you like me to post how you feel about it? That makes plenty of sense. It's really sad to see mmorpg players now accepting unfinished games. I'm still waiting for reasons as to why this game is amazing. So far I've heard art and music, and possibly lore.
Amazing is in the eye of the beholder...you seem quite fixed on your feelings for what is and what is not when related to AoC. Do your posts need a responce? like i said, if there is anything you would like to post that we may be able to help you with concerning playing AoC please do not hesitate n posting.

See, this is why Im happy with the art in AoC ( please dont be confused, art needs a concept , not only "pretty things" and AoC, as Bioshock have it ) finally this kind of expression is present in a MMO
Guild Wars is a great game, but it has a easier system to maintain than AoC, this is why for me, is easy to see AoC with a mix of GW and EQ2 in a Low Fantasy setting...
You just didnt get a good group in AoC yet.
After Tortage you will fall in a world that is a amazing gaming version of the world created by Robert E. Howard... you didnt expect all quests would have voice over, right?
Age of Conan is unique and has qualities enough to be called one of the good MMORPGs we can play, you just didnt like it.
The game has some issues, yes, but all mmorpgs have in the first weeks...
My first MMO was a small game called Asheron's Call and I've not has as much fun in a game since then until AoC. And for the record, I hated WoW, I couldn't get past level 20 in that game without extreme boredom
But then, I have a good guild around me with alot of friends to enjoy my time with. I'm on a full PvP server and looking foward to the crafting and seige combat system.
What I don't understand is... why complain because you got to the end game too fast and there aren't enough people caught up to you to enjoy it yet? I'm sure more world PvP will happen soon enough, right now people are trying to level to enjoy what they consider to be the 'more fun part' of the game and are less concerned about the world pvp. Sure some is happening, but it will pick up, especially in zones like Poitain, Lachesh and lotus swamp as more and more guilds begin to fight over those precious resources. Even in an instance based system, it isn't likely that any one guild will have it all locked up.
It is a new game, give people time to get settled down. To learn who their enemies will be and so forth.
A game is what you make of it. If you are dead set on it sucking, it will suck. If you go into it without a care about things just to enjoy your time, you will find the game far more enjoyable.
Get some friends and enjoy the game for what it is... A way to spend some spare time with friends in an enviroment that has some enjoyable aspects to it, ie a way to kill time with some friends.
It doesn't need to be perfect, or even great because a bunch of good friends can make even the worst game fun and a great game without friends will often be found to be boring.
just my observation, your mileage may vary.
Oh, and Teala, uncensored would probably be for the best (j/k)
Good post Raston. I agree with you. I Love AoC... yes, I too have played many a mmo. I see many people get critical of a game first out before knowing the full extent or giving it a chance.
I have three characters at 20; enjoy all three while I learn what each does. Yes. I played Beta too, so as you can tell I am not tired of doing most quests again; just that I get better in how I do them.
I will not let those who like there name in the *press* suede me into thinking a game is a bummer when they too, mostly get there voice from another doomsayer.

And for the story past Tarantia, well, just watch the damned cutscene intro, it breaks it down fairly easy for you.
I feel I've been doing a lot.
Anyway if the 250 hour to lvl 80 is true which it seems to be by the number of lvl 80"s already in the game wouldn't that make AoC more of a casual game then WoW? I seem to remember wow taking somewhat more then 250 hours to reach lvl 60.

How about picking some flowers?
for instance?
i only ask as all the problems you have mentioned seem to be the same old new game gripes of any mmo i have ever played. though to be honest most release's i have ever played have been much worse
i understand this game is not for you friend but to call it made for xbox is a little strange to be honest, i am 34 years old and can see that each console/pc etc has its place. hell i have to admit to having a great time on the Halo series! so if this game has xbox 360 in mind then great! whats wrong with that.
Just so you know. pop onto Everquest and speak to my character Tuor hes a 70 Ranger time equipped with 8 years of vet rewards. though at the moment i am playing my new Ranger on FV server who reached 57 so far. So i'm hardly an mmo newbie

This is what I've been getting at the whole time. The game is not broken, it's not for everyone, and no game ever will appeal to everyone.

I'm going to call BS on taking almost no damage. You can almost count on multiple pulls in the fields of the dead and you mean to tell me that 3-4 lvl 39-42 ish mobs don't hurt you at all at level 40? How about the bosses, you solo them too with no damage? The hit HARD!The war, I'm sure will come later. I haven't played an MMO yet that starts you out fighting the big war.
Killing the wolves, they are disturbing the camp of your kinsmen. Getting the plants? Someone is injured and needs them for recovery. It all has a purpose if you read the quest text.
Again, if you don't like it, play something else.
I really enjoyed the tutorial zone and the opening storyline but after leaving it I felt a bit lost for a bit but I'm sure that will pass.
in response to OP's thread title,
OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH yes it is. (sorry this is the best Panto impression i can do with my keyboard)

Eye candy can't save a game, not even the Conan IP has enough pretty stuff to overcome the same old boring grind. Thank God, there's no shortage of mmo's.
Come join the feudal goodness

Yes all mmo has a lore, and lore isnt just the main story or the story of some quests... it happens AoC has a very good lore...

Fixed.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7

Screenshot else it aint true....hehe........ just kidding Teala....about it not being true, wasn't kidding about the screenshot tho

Uncensored, for the sake of keeping in line with AoC, of course!
I want to say this also...
I will not let those who like there name in the *press* suede me into thinking a game is a bummer when they too, mostly get there voice from another doomsayer.
thank you & have a great day
