I am just wondering if anyone else out there like me who has been waiting for AoC as well as WAR and now wonder if Warhammer is going to be enough for them? I am only playing AoC as it came out first but WAR has always been THE game I have wanted to play. However after the combat in Conan I don't think I can go back to cartoonish graghics waving oversized swords that just wack away until one character falls over. AoC is not for everyone, personally I feel it has dramatically improved the genre but not revolutionised. However the combat is something special. I have never played any MMO that captures the reality like this game does. Everything from active blocking, timing, dodging, setting up fatalities and witness the realistic gore that follows, hell even my armour looks like it has been soaked in realistic blood.
First of all, WAR graphic is stylized fantasy approach not 'cartoonish' in any way.
Second, AoC combat system is not improvement it's more like specialized for particularly segment of player to please them more. From my point of view this combat system is gimped for MMO kind of genre simple because it should be playable for everyone in family 12-80 yrs old, not just those with good finger reflex, but those with intelligence too.
I don't think AoC's combat system is that impressive. So you can swing your weapon in a few diffrent ways and jump side to side... there are (imo) better ways to make skill count.
I do however like many other details in AoC but I think I'll wait a few months or so before I start paying for it. I'll play the free 30 days and then let them iron out some bugs and fix the class imbalances until I think about subscribing in a few months.
As for graphics, AoC is nice up close but demanding if you want the distant scenery to look anything but boring. Some spell effects are cool and I dig that but it's still not impressive. I have no idea what WAR will look like so I can't compare it with AoC but I'm really looking forward to try it.
Lots of valid points and either way its not going to affect WAR because gamers like me have already decided to play both or even move from AoC to WAR. Its not just the combat mechanics but the gore level in AoC that I appreciate. Not because I am a sicko or anything but it does create a level of realism I have not seen before. Plus I like the fact I can use some of my PC hardware for a change to.
Whoever asked...I do have 1500 pieces not points. 18 years playing Warhammer I have collected way too many and I think the largest battle was 8500 pts. Lasted 6 weeks and ended up with just 10 pieces on the board. If WAR has a massive world (a lot less instances) and the PvP is fun then it will challenge AoC in opening sales.

"I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."
