I'll have to say this......TURBINE IS A 1000 TIMES BETTER THAN SOE. I MEAN WHAT"S THE POINT IN DOWNLOADING A 5 GB TRIAL TO BE ABLE TO ONLY REACH LVL 10. Trial my arse, cant trade, cant go to other places, limited to a small island, limited to lvl 10. You have to pay for evey small little expansion. What a waste of my HDD space and what a waste of my time. It took almost 2 days to download that crap file and then I come to know you can only go till lvl 10, what a bummer. I'm staying with LOTR folks, way better everything. I mean I run LOTRO pretty well on medium on my low rig system but when I try to run EQ2 my PC lags like shit, after siphoning so much money SOE still hasnt come up with a better engine.
LOL
Thank goodness, if you have that bad of a pc, then it's best you go to an inferior game and company.

Errr My PC can handle BIO SHOCK and I can play Crysis on Low with 30-40 FPS......I am playing LOTRO with no problems, you should to read the whole post before replying.....
I play both LOTRO and EQ2, I have high level character on both games as well. I would say if you are limited for time to play LOTRO is the better bet. Though both offer solo play, LOTRO is abit more friendly to solo than EQ2.
I have never had an issue getting into grp for either game, Just make sure you research the server you want to play on, some of the servers on both games are low pop, so if you really keen on grping pick one that has a larger pop and you won't have any issues finding grps.
I run many alts, and never have any issues finding low level players to grp with as well, when you dont want to do the solo grind/questing.
All in all, pick the game that appealed to you the most and enjoy, Both are fun games that offer alot of adventuring to be done
Especially if you're a Tolkien fan, go with Lord of the Rings.
Much is solable but you will need to group for many quest lines and instances as you advance. The world is more realistic in many ways than EQ2.
Lots of options for things to do aside from questing. You can craft, buy and decorate a home, go fishing, hunt for resources.
The Mines of Moria expansion is coming in the fall, definitely worth leveling up your dwarf (I can tell you're a dwarf type) so he can go down down down into the depths for unparalelled adventure. How's that?
I did not get far in EQ2, it really seemed all narrow and closed in and icky. I'm sure its better after awhile. I do think you want to check their forums, their players seem currently unhappy with recent changes, and they don't tend to back down or away from any decisions they make with their games, protest or not. You're kinda stuck.
EQ2 is a much better game overall, but LoTRO may be suitable for a beginner who happens to be a Tolkien fan.

If you can run Bishock the and not EQ2 then it’s pure PEBCAK. That or you just making stuff up.
