Hello all,

Because of all the good things I have been hearing about this game in the forums, I decided to go out and buy VG today at my local Gamestop.  The guy at the casheer was very nice...

Well anyway, if some people could answer a few questions, that would be great (I have no knowledge of VG whatsoever).

- Do I get the first month free?

-which class should I start out as?

-any tips to a new player?

Thanks a lot.

Yes you get 30 days of free play.

I suggest you try the Ranger class. Great damage, can survive pretty well, and ranged combat makes soloing doable for most of the time. Run speed buffs/stealth just make it an all around awesome class. Then again, I'm judging from 5 months ago when I played so perhaps someone more current knows?

My tip would be to find a good guild soon. It's always good in a huge game like VG to have some friends.

Thanks, I'll make sure to try out the ranger.

Anyone know a good server with a nice community and a low level population, (PvE or PvP)?  Also, if I join a PVP server, will I constantly get ganked?

    Thanks.

I would suggest rolling on either Xeth or Seradon as they have the highest population. The PVP server: Sartok has the lowest population, so I wouldn't suggest that server.

    Welcome to Vanguard!

    Welcome to Vanguard m8

Class wise I would roll what ever class fits your playstyle.  All classes are welcome in groups.  Some solo better than others, but most solo well on normal 2 - 3 dot mobs.

I would roll on the US PvE servers like the poster mentioned above.  Sartok (PvP) population is thin on the ground.  I'm hoping when the trial island comes out Sartok will see a nice increase in population.

    Tips:

Pick up a couple of harvesting skills as soon as you can, this will be a major resource for your income.

Remember to carry a stack of deconstruction hammers, as you progress you will pick up alot of loot which cannot be worn but can be deconstructed into dust for crafting.

Do the starter quests for crafting, only takes a few minutes, but you will recieve a nice bag which dusts will be auto placed.  Dusts take up a lot of inventory space you will need it.

I last played VG for a month leading up to beta and then a week into release before I decided it was just not the game for me. What has changed for the better since release? What's still total and utter poopie?

Here is a link to the latest review of Vanguard done by Massively.

It contains some pretty good information and gives you an idea of how things are currently.  Note that this was done right before the latest update in which the anti-hitching code was introduced (and the Vanguard community rejoiced).

Well this is annoying!  Just bought V:SoH from EBay last week as well, got an email today saying that he sold out even though I did a buy-it now!  heh, well at least I'm getting my money back soon!

Maybe it wasn't meant to be!

Then perhaps anyone of you fine gentlemen could be kind and give me your buddy pass? :p I'd love to try this game out again to see the new updates and see if it fits my glove now.

It still has the best idea for us that love crafting.

    Cheers.

Seradon server is what was recommended to me when I started playing and it's been a pleasant experience until now.

I understand that the RP servers were merged into this one.

Well have fun with that. Vanguard is just like the rest noting inovative minus the diplomatic system which in the end is repetiative and u can always win if u know what your doing which you will after your first few goes and it and you get the hang of it. Return for Age of Conan.

Well this game looks great, has great features like crafting and the diplomatic thing as seperate leveling systems, not just the same as every other game. Also crafting has a purpose, unlike most games where you can make the same thing as a drop from a easy monster, i'd like a ship to be inside a monster lol. So go and play Age of Conan, why are you even here, if you are only here to troll? And I'm sure I will have fun thanks.

Sorry my buddy code is reserved :P

Sence you brought up AOC i was wondering do they have a working auction house and mail system yet , oh and did they the fix the  lack of content that starts at level 40 just wondering cause i found it really boring only having about 2 fed -x quests and a  1 repeatable kill quests per level after 45 . oh and did they replace that UI yet god thats the uglyest UI  ive ever seen in any game  in other words did they add the other 50% of there game yet after close to 2 weeks of been live  Your the one that brought it up i know truth hurts its ok run along have fun playing AOC

WOW (flavor Flavs version) are you serious? Lets see if you could get to 25 in vanguard when they released and see content for higher levels when it was released. Oh thats right you couldnt because you couldnt move out of the damn starter area. Im playing with content past lvl 45 and you have no clue what your talking about because you do nothing but complain yet go back to a game that at a time was unplayable yet they still took your money. And level 40 is equivilant to 25 in other mmos for AoC. And far as im concerned you were proud with vanguard when they launched because there auction house worked? is that what your telling me? you werent concerned with the flaw that yiou couldnt move 10 steps if you turned on any graphic in the game? please i can rip this game apart. you have no clue what your talking about and only wish you had a point. I know my truths hurt you deep down and u feel you must avenge this pile to the death but when you get your wish you will only be thinking what was i thinking and relize you should of just shut your mouth.

    Damn you all!!! :D

(read on before flaming, it's not a real curse)

I was checking all the options I have in my country and ended up ... nowhere.

Game is out of stock everywhere localy and Amazon considers my country a non-destination. So only realistic option left is buying the game from Station for 40 USD + tax.

Guess I can only wait and hope that free trial does materialise. Or Station vanguard pricing policy becomes more "trial" friendly. I do consider a 10 EUR price tag on Amazon almost trial. :)

Well Mike I just re-subscribed to Vanguard like many others I was not happy with the release, but now I am happy to be back. Currently I am a Lvl 23 Orc Monk on Seradon, there are some problems like a lack of high end content, which doesnt really bother me cuz I havent come anywhere close to that content, some hitching is still in the game which was suppose to be fixed with GU5, but also some crashes occur for me atleast at random usually not more then twice.  Alot of people arnt too happy with the addition of racial mounts which take a long time to actually get. It is a good idea too find a guild, even if its a small one mainly because you will need friends and the like to finish up quests. Grouping seems to get easier with everyday, seems more people are pilling into Vanguard that arnt able to play AoC.  As to your questions of Which class and tips, depends on your play style really, this game got everything, good tank, healing class that wears plate ( freaking amazing I think plate wearing clerics), kick ass dps in Disicples and Rangers, and Psi's seem to be more and more popular everyday. So hope you enjoy the game, if you pick seradon hit me up names Adious. This game had potential at launch and tanked, maybe just maybe with enough people, and enough money SOE can turn it around and make this game into what  it was ment for freakin GREATNESS. Thanks for your time.

    Thanks!

To get the hijacked topic back on course; what would you say is the best solo class these days?

From what I hear in the game, Necro's are best at solo'ing followed by the Dark Knight. Though most class's dont really have a tough time solo'ing the Psi's are probably the worst at lower lvl's but with the recent revamp of there dots and abilities even Psi's are good no adays.

  • morpinmorpin Member Posts: 360

    Yeah, Necro's, DKs and Shamans.

I think just about any class with good gear can solo a 3 dot around there own level.  It's when you get to the 4-dots and above that things get very challenging and thats the way it's supposed to be.

I am a lvl 48 Shaman and I can sometimes solo a a 4-dot about 3-4 lvls below me, but its very tough and it takes a long time.  Its almost not worth it.
