Greetings to all gamers,
I have been playing AoC for almost a week now and my general impression is a positive one.
For those of us who recall such classic games as Diablo, Monkey Island and Baldur's Gate, some elements and the general atmoshpere of this title may look familiar and occasionally remind them of the past. Players from my guild also say "feels like Oblivion".
I have only reached level 20 and already found 4-5 serious bugs that crashed the game and as many minor ones that made my character do wierd things. This game also needs all the resources you can get and my hard drive spins around all the time. Sometimes surfaces take a while to redraw and characters to appear. My system is an Intel Dual Core with 2 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT/512RAM and perfectly patched and a fast 250GB Seagate HDD.
AoC has interesting details and innovations. You don't have to fight all over again the bad guys and monsters that are below your level and happen to stand in your path. The world you explore gives you a sense of proximity and not chaos. There is no chance you will get lost. It gives you a taste of adventure/RPG gameplay and also an action/RPG variety.
Graphics are well designed and artistic and the User Interface is functional. The inventory is too small to cover the average player's needs. AI is what you would come to expect and generally speaking the game is an evolutionary step ahead. I think we have to wait a little for the "next big thing".
Most of the other details and specific topics have been covered. I am not a MMORPG expert like other people in these forums (my experience is only 2 years with WOW and LOTR), but AoC has gathered my attention and I keep playing hour-by-hour.
Jim.
